if you have the samsung 218 or 219 w/d units please help!

i was wondering if anyone who has these units uses them stacked, and if so how tall they turn out to be. Also, on the samsung website it says stacked they are 56" deep, can this be right??? that's almost 2x the depth of the normal unit.

i was also hoping someone could tell me the depth of the side of the machines- not the total depth (31" as per their website). and how far out the dryer is from the wall. I am trying to figure out if these units will fit into my laundry room, there are 2 doors that open into the room (one on each side) and i can't really figure it out. my boyfriend says we should just get them and see but i don't want to be stuck with them if they don't fit into the room comfortably.

As I stated on another post it's kind of hard to measure because of the curvature of the door, but it looks like 35 inches. Mine are on pedestals, so they are not stacked. I do have a rectangular dryer vent so they do set a little bit closer to the wall. But basically take their specs, 31 inches, and add 5 for a regular vent. That would get you to 36 inches.

Maybe the 56 inches is the space you will need if they are setting side by side. 27 inches wide X 2 = 54. Then the additional space between the two units.

Stacked they are not going to be any deeper than if they are installed side by side. They should be a little shorter than the stated 38 inches (76 total) for each unit. That's because they will remove the feet from one unit and attach with the stacking plate. It should take off an inch, but don't know exactly. So will they fit at the maximum height of 76 inches?

As far as the doors opening, do you need to take in consideration the swing of the doors? You could change the dryer to match the same swing pattern as the washer. But you are stuck with the swing pattern of the washer.

56" might be the depth with the door open.

@fpmom... (this is not to sound like a smart ass question) Have you ever owned a front load washer before? I ask because in some areas of the country, you may have hard or very hard water. Hard water with it's higher mineral content can play a number on washing machines and your clothes. If not enough detergent is used in hard water, limescale can build up along with other gunk and mold. Mold is easier to control by using HOT washes on a regular basis (not only once in a while). Or do a "Clean" cycle at least once a month (or more often) with bleach and NO detergent. Liquid bleach will also kill mold and should be used in a "White" cycle or in an empty machine's "Clean" or Hot wash cycle. Do be sure to use ONLY "HE" laundry detergent. If possible do try to leave the door open after a cycle to let the drum dry out...usually 12 to 24 hours. You can also leave the additive drawer open to let that air out and dry. Unfortunately, front loaders need a little more maintenance than top loaders. Let us know what you replace your Electrolux's with and if you have better luck with the mold issue.

mark40511 "I hear they use a LOT of water". I have the 2487 and matching dryer in red. I am not sure how that statement is founded. While I do not have the actual water usage amount, based on my experience AND the countless FL testemonials, I am not sure any FL brand uses heavier amounts of water vs other brands. It took me a while to wrap my mind around the lack of water and how there was any possiblity that clothes were clean with the amount of water used. When I have washed our guest room comforter, I use extra water and extra rinse, I am sure those options use a large amount water. Honestly that is the only time I can really see water in the tub. FL's really rock, after almost two years I still at times turn on the tub light and watch the clothes wash!! lol

I'm very excited about the steam feature. I've read some comments here that were very skeptical about steam. But I think it IS a good thing, especially if you have to care for suits and stuff like that that should not be washed all the time - (steam in the dryer). And the steam feature in the washer I hear is great for stain removal. And if you have babies around attracting stains wherever they go, than I think steam could be your new best friend! I feel like I've learned so much the past few days just by reading tons of posts. I found out I really don't know how to do laundry correctly (as far as temp, products, etc). I did not know that your washer could get atherosclerosis (build up of fatty material :D ) and that your clothes could suffer from overweight problem (accumulation of chemical residues)! I just ordered some Charlie's Soap yesterday, and I am planning on buying some white vinegar too. Now, is the white vinegar the one you buy for cooking, in the cooking aisle? Any brands that you recommend? I just want to do this thing right from the start. I don't want to end up w/ a smelly W/D or smelly clothes.

We haven't got to the stage of actually deciding how the "access panel" will look. Luckily, ours will be hidden by the door to the room when it is open. When door to room is closed, panel will be near the edge of the room, kind of like in a corner. But in discussing it a bit this morning, I did hear that because there are so many different "spots" needing access, perhaps a door with a piano hinge? Since the access will only be needed at most, once in six months for the gas dryer vent and the others, hardly ever at all unless special circumstances, I think I would prefer a large neat thin panel screwed to the wall, maybe 60 inches vertically by 32 inches wide. Screws being the type that can easily be removed and won't strip easily. Then I might cover the thin panel with a mirror. We have a much smaller thin 'access panel' we got from Home Depot for the plumbing in the master bath that is accessible when bedroom door is closed. I have a bar with hooks that I use for hanging things temporarily (not the neatest look but is good place for "gently worn" clothing) that covers the panel nicely. Depends on what you prefer seeing, a rack of clothes hung or an access panel. Would like to hear what you are thinking about. I did a google search of "access panel" in google images. Lots to look at, may take me a while. So still thinking - contractor is working on other parts of room now. We may have a couple of weeks to figure the access panel out.

thanks. the door swing won't be a problem on the machines, the problem is I have 2 doors that open into the room that i'm afraid will hit the units if they are side by side.

and stacking them will probably be another problem (there is enough room height wise) because I am only 5'2" and I don't think I'll be able to reach the control panel on the top unit.

does anyone know of front loading units that aren't quite as deep as these (with a similar tub capacity)? I'm so sad, this is a brand new house and I can't believe they didn't account for the size of normal washer/dryer units.
