I think you need to get clear about the family room paint first. Is it a mistake because the color isn't what it could be, or only because you are having a hard time finding a kitchen color to work with it? The reason I ask is that if you use the Camelback to drive the decision for the kitchen, you run the risk of two not-quite-what-they-could-be rooms.

Try thinking about the kitchen color in isolation. If you can find a kitchen color you really love, it may motivate you to zero in on a better family room color....like maybe Tobacco Road. (I have not seen the color in person.)

It looks like you are DIY. That's good! Remember, the prep is the hardest part of a paint job. If you've recently painted the Family Room, giving it a fresh coat is not a big deal.

Take a look at Jersey Cream. It has a touch of green in it, as does the Camelback. They might play nicely together.

I think you're right, amysrq. I have never been truly happy with the family room (I just painted it 2 months ago). It just looks washed out to me. I know I have very little on the walls so far and that may help, but I'm still leery. I'm wondering if an olive green may be a better choice. Then, I wouldn't have to settle for something that isn't exactly what I want for the kitchen and remainder of the first floor.

I was thinking the same as Amy. While it's a grand pain to have to repaint a whole room, it may be the best option. And I struggled for 2 years with my master bath......trying to find a wallpaper or a paint shade that would work with the (80's) greyed-blue tile. I couldn't paint the bedroom because it opened to the mbath. Finally, I concentrated on the bedroom and painted it in Laura Ashley Gold #3. (Worked great with my love of berry red and deep brick and black furniture) Once the bedroom was painted and decorated, it became clear that we needed to get rid of the offending blue tile.

Find the right color for your kitchen, perhaps the warm/browned yellow of the Tobacco Road. Then, assess the family room. Maybe it needs a muted subtle green? Or perhaps you can do something a little deeper, more intense, in the kitchen and the family room will look like a softened version of the kitchen color. Or maybe the same color will work in both spaces? There's nothing wrong with doing that.

Olive green could work. I love green paint as anyone who's been here a while will tell you! ;-) But, I think that a room full of nothing but warm color, while easy to look at, is not reaching it's full potential. Is that blue gray in the lampshade? I would start there...

My first choice for that room would be a warm gray that skews strongly toward blue. I love the color of the sofa and think a blue gray would set it off nicely. Blue gray would work well with yellow for the kitchen as well.

The family room, as it stands, is very monochromatic, the colors are closely related. But, it looks to me like you are not afraid of color...and in fact want more than the Camelback is providing. Take a look at Krypton for a bit of blue. Or Austere Gray or Comfort Gray, if you want to go more towards green.

I have 2 yellow kitchens. Old (& current home) have a much brighter yellow than the new home we are currently building. New home is RH's Butter.

My previous kitchen, dining room and most of the living room were SW Optimistic Yellow. I was terrified when we had it painted! I was very afraid I'd feel like I was living in a lemon, but it was just a super clear cheerful yellow that got many, many compliments while we lived there.

I'm using it again in the new house . . . not sure exactly how much, but I liked it well enough to repeat.
