a little help with my chili?

Well, I've never made chili from scratch before and I'm using what I had in my(bare bones)pantry/kitchen.

I have a pound of black beans simmering with about an hour to go. I haven't seasoned them or anything because I've read they will get tough if seasoned/salted before they're done.

I have 4 boneless chicken thighs, cut into 1/2" pieces. DH doesn't care for ground beef, and I had the thighs in the freezer. I also have at the ready:

1 chopped onion

2 minced garlic cloves

1/2 cup chopped jalapenos(seeds and membranes removed)

1 can(28oz)diced tomatoes

1 can(10oz)diced tomatoes w/diced green chilies

prepared chili powder(has cumin and other spices)

oregano, salt, pepper(I figured to taste)

Does this sound complete enough? I was going to brown the meat, saute the onion, garlic and jals, then add the other stuff, and after the beans are tender, mix it all together and simmer an additional period of ____? I'm not sure here. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!
