Working Hands! Found out about it here on this forum! It works miracles; put it on at night and when you wake up, you are "cured". I swear by it. Just have to remember to use it regularly. I haven't the last couple days and I have two splits on my right hand....OUCH!

shoot..we had a post very much like this, recently...everyone has their fave lotions, ect...

what i'd suggest is latex gloves during the day to protect your hands...i'd have to do a search, but assume latex can be washed,and sanitized as well as skin...open sores can be a real danger, despite the use of bandaids...one old fashion trick is sleeping in cotton gloves with hands slathered with vasoline...on the weekends or at school apply more lotionafter washing...

A layer of coconut oil, let it absorb, then add a layer of Vaseline and put on a pair of cotton gloves.

I think a while back someone posted to use chapstick on splits..tried it and it works...Mary

I have used the vasoline and socks at night. Some people here have mentioned a product called Bag Balm that worked well. My skin has been so dry lately, but especially my scalp which you can't just slather lotion on.

I've recommended Working Hands for the past few years. It is miracle stuff believe me!

I have used Working Hands and it the best stuff I have ever used.
I get it at our local Ace Hardware.
I also use the stuff they make for feet.

Cetaphil cream applied after every hand washing.

I've heard Working Hands works well but I've not tried it. The pharmacist recommended something called Zinn's Crack Creame which I've used on my fingers which peel and crack in the winter. It's worked very well.

My dermatologist says the best thing for dry skin is petroleum jelly.

This is the absolute best stuff I have ever used.

(1) Big bottle of Johnson's Baby Lotion
(2) Vitamin E Skin Care Cream jars (found it at Dollar General)
(1) Small Jar of Petroleum Jelly - brand doesn't matter

Scoop all of the ingredients into a bowl and mix with hand mixer until fluffy like icing. Save the containers so you can put the new and amazing lotion back into them. I use a cleaned catsup/jelly squeeze bottle. It is too thick to go through a pump.

Throwing my vote to O'Keefe's Working Hands also. My thumbs and pointer fingers on both hands would crack and split every winter. My knuckles would look like they had dozens of tiny paper cuts all over them. Not this year!

I did buy the Working Hands (from Bed, Bath & Beyond) when it was mentioned in the previous dry-skin posting that Susan referred to (and which I believe was the posting that spiraled into fierce words, causing one person to stop coming to this forum! Yikes!). It's in a green round plastic hockey-puck-like container.

Working Hands did help heal the cracks.
The other item mentioned in that old posting was something with Cornhuskers in the title -- more of a thick liquid (also at the Bed, Bath and Beyonds that carry the aisles of health/beauty products). Haven't tried that.

O'Keefe products are guaranteed.

Incidentally, Lazypup explained to the forum that the postings about dry skin relief had nothing to do with his departure.

You might need a prescription. We use lacthydran. It is actually for the feet but we use it on our hands too.
In the winter you need to be mindful of not washing your hands in cool water (too much of a rush to wait for it to warm up) and to make sure you hands are completely dry. If you remember to use lotion, (Vasaline Intensive Care) regularly, you can avoid the bad cracking.

I assume that mixture to be for cow's udders where the teats were cracking.

Thanks everyone, I am in Canada and hopefully they sell the O'Keefe's working hands in a store here. I will look. I have a latex sensitivity so the gloves are out, plus wouldn't be suitable working with kids.

we stopped using vasaline intensive care, because of the fragrance...we both keep a bottle of aveeno by the bed...it seems to stay a bit after washing your hands?

and diet? i swear way back when (1970) when i was doing the old fashion weight watchers, they allowed a certain amount of oil in the daily diet for skin?? and do you guys find drinking more water and using a humidifier help, too??
