Have you tried Sriracha Peas? OH MY FREAKIN WORD they are awesome!!!!!! I have a new addiction starting I think. I got them at my local grocery, but you can get the online too.....

I used to buy the wasabi peas at Mitsuwa, where I also bought a variety of sembei crackers. If you have not tried those, you may be in for a new addiction. Mine started when I got a swap box from Andy_in_Japan, and she sent me the best sembei crackers I have ever had. I then started buying them at Mitsuwa (not having known what they were before), but the ones I got from Japan were larger and had a better flavor and texture.

I love black eyed peas too, but I've only ever had them reconstituted from the dry, bagged, grocery store ones. I will say, though, that pretty much anything that you simmer with smoked pork products, and especially bacon, is going to taste pretty spectacular. ;) I'm going to start another couple tubs of cowpeas this weekend, and maybe crowd them a little bit more, since I've read some differing things on spacing, and see which ones produce more. Since it's more or less just an experiment, I won't be too terribly heartbroken if I don't find myself drowning in a sea of peas.

I love wasabi peas also - both your recipes look great, and I will try both of them, starting with the salad. The sesame dressing looks especially nice. I make a marinade for tuna that has very similar ingredients except that I use wasabi powder instead of sriracha, although I do add a couple of fresh hot chilies because I have them in my yard. Last night I made tuna using that marinade, and I made a sauce for the tuna from some of the marinade to which I add an equal amount of water and a bit of cornstarch. I microwave the sauce for a few seconds to heat it up and to get the cornstarch to thicken it. All we had last night was Ahi tuna and tabouli, but it was enough. Normally I would have made rice and some frozen peas and corn, but I had already started the tabouli. Thanks for sharing! Lars

Jenny - Today is my son's 100th school day of the year and everyone was asked to bring in 100 "things" in a paper bag and write three clues so that the class could guess what's in the bag. 1) green 2) super hot 3) 16th letter of the alphabet Good thing he only took 100 - I've been munching on them ever since. Wife is disgusted that I'm eating them for breakfast! My dog, on the other hand is having a tough time with them. He wants to eat them so badly but just can't keep them in his mouth.

Anyone growing beans? Peas?

We grow several varieties of beans, green peas, and edible podded peas. I tried Magnolia Blossom tendril pea this winter/spring and will probaby grow it again. Massive amounts of curly tendrils which are so delicious. I recommend it. I always grow Wando peas, as they really are more heat tolerant than most others. In the south, green peas have to be planted super early. My pea crop is just a memory for us, until the fall when I can plant another round of seeds. I've been growing Jade bush beans for the last few years and it has the best flavor! A fan of Kentucky Wonder pole beans, too! We use plain bamboo teepees for the pole beans and peas.....we have a friend with a small bamboo forest who is happy to deliver all we need. :-) I LOVE garden chat!

Well thanks to your picture I caught these out of the corner of my eye while grocery shopping last night. I just finished the can for breakfast and am about ready to go out for more. Addictive for sure!

Wasabi Peas and Sriracha Peas can be made into powder in a coffee grinder.

They are very nice to sprinkle on dishes, pasta, etc.
