JEALOUS!! Haven't been able to plant any n-ground veggies in a long time... DANG GROUNDHOGS!! My grandmother always said... plant peas on St. Patrick's Day... they're NOT a hot weather veggie?!? I have had moderate success planting snap peas and bush beans in LARGE pots. Beans take only a few days to appear after being poked down in dirt. Have found if pot is over-crowded (how could it NOT be??)... no biggie. If plants sorta fall over, you have sort of a hanging planter??

When I planted a garden I always planted the Trionfo Violetto purple beans on my bean trellis. I first found the seeds in a packet on a rack at the hardware store. For several years they carried this line of unusual veggie seeds and some from Italy. Then they stopped and I ordered online or I think maybe once from a catalog I sent for that carried Italian vegetable seeds. They turn green when cooked.

I had the Violetto bean vines at times grow right up over the trellis and into the apple tree branches. Once I planted yellow wax beans on one side of the trellis, Violetto on the other - I ended up with yellow beans with purple splotches! ha

We grow several varieties of beans, green peas, and edible podded peas. I tried Magnolia Blossom tendril pea this winter/spring and will probaby grow it again. Massive amounts of curly tendrils which are so delicious. I recommend it.

I always grow Wando peas, as they really are more heat tolerant than most others. In the south, green peas have to be planted super early. My pea crop is just a memory for us, until the fall when I can plant another round of seeds.

I've been growing Jade bush beans for the last few years and it has the best flavor! A fan of Kentucky Wonder pole beans, too! We use plain bamboo teepees for the pole beans and peas.....we have a friend with a small bamboo forest who is happy to deliver all we need. :-)

I'm on my second go-'round, as the first batch didn't come up; I think something ate the seeds. Since I planted so late, I've only just thinned and they're about 6 inches tall. I may be eating (fillet type) beans in October. They are bush beans.

I grow purple striped green beans from seeds I got from my neighbor in 1986. I always save some to plant the next year. He got them from a farmer in Italy in 1977. They are the best beans I ever had. Tender even when large and never stringy. They lose their stripes when cooked and become solid green.

Great to read about everyone's experiences! I never heard of tendril peas, Rhizo, so I looked them up. Interesting! Baker Creek, one of my favorite suppliers, has them. My husband and I, and later my daughter Jill and I, used to pore over the seed catalogs, always on the lookout for something new and delicious. I'm thrilled that my son has become an avid vegetable gardener.

My neighbor (loved her, RIP) was Korean and introduced me to them quite a few years ago. She used to share hers and I started growing them myself when she passed away.

I grow them in tomato cages. Pick them when they're young, like filet beans. I eat some every day, and have been pickling them in the fridge, too.
