I actually DO believe him when he talks about liquids. I stay far away from them for the reason that I don't think they rinse well. Even Persil powder which rinses well - the gel good on oil - but rinsing not as well as powder in my water.

Sorry the repair guy was such a nobody. He was hyper because he doesn't know what to do. Contact Whirlpool - isn't he Whirlpool or do they not send a whirlpool service person out anymore?

I wonder if the door seal would let water run out? Never thought of that.

The door seals on these machine's are designed as dependable gravity-barriers to water. For that purpose, they do fine. They are not designed as pressure-seals. That is, not designed to operate with a water-head way up the door.

From experience with decades of laundromat front-loaders, many of which do/did have pressure-sealing doors and work fine with water levels way up there, many people figured the new HE machines for home use, which look just like them, would be like them in that way, too. They aren't.

The guy was from an appliance repair service not just a whirlpool tech, but Whirlpool did call them out to service, at one point I was trying to tell him about the pause button not always working, and he went off talking about something else, he had started the machine up again, than paused it and it wouldnt unlock, so he had to cancel for it to open, by then there was not the soapy water for him to see, so he reached in and said these are rinsed good, without seeing the soapy water.

He was hyper when he reached my door, he talked sooo fast and wouldnt listen, I had to wonder if he was on something or just had a double espresso or something.

I do believe everyone here that has said that the liquids are bad that is why I bought the Charlies. I asked him if the liquid Tide is so bad why does whirlpool recommend it, they give you a packet of it with your new washer, he said that was his oppinion. I do remember a while back I was reading something about the powder not rinsing and causing the mold? I dont think so, it makes more sense about the liquid.

I have read alot about water leaking from doors. That is true that they arent made the way laundomats are, I wish they were. I remember seeing on youtube some washers that the water was 1/2 way up the door and I had to wonder if that was going to be a problem for them.

Thanks asolo I have an older machine(5 years) and it almost always has water up into the door for rinses so I didn't know about door seals.

Most are somewhat similar to your dishwasher-door. Your dishwasher's water capacity is limited by the level of its tub-lip. The door just seals the slosh when it's running. If the over-fill limiter fails and water rises above the tub-lip, the machine begins leaking because the door seal won't hold it.

Not a perfect analogy but perhaps will serve. HE/FL's are similar. That's why you can pause the machine and open the door and water doesn't come pouring out. The actual level of the water in there is always below the tub-lip. Seeing the saturated clothes 1/2-2/3's of the way up the window makes some people think that's the water level, too. It isn't. The machine will not allow a higher water level because the door seal won't contain it.

You may recall those laundromat machines that do fill way up with water and with doors that do seal it. Recall also that they're all on plinthes and that many of them do, in fact, leak while running. Recall also that once the door is closed and the cycle begins the door is fully locked and cannot be opened except by canceling the whole cycle, draining, and starting again. No "add-a-garment" feature on those models.

... and a big lever to hold the door closed tight...

I wish my pause button would work so I can open door, sometimes it works 1 out 10 xs maybe. The tech wouldnt listen to me about that problem.

I just did the test of 9 towels-10 handtowels-10 washclothes and they did work this time, they didnt tangle up and the machine didnt stop and it did balance out, I dont know why the last time I tried this, it wouldnt spin, or why it wouldnt spin with 5?

I mentioned to the tech that the other guys told me that it would ruin the rubber seal if I put what the manual recommended, he said that is bull and said not true, these machines are made to wash full loads, I guess medium size loads is when it doesnt work. Now I will have to do the test with all long sleeve light weight items, maybe that is why they tangle up, maybe there is too much room for them to tangle?

I would be much happier if this was the problem "easy fix" I just wish that they would have told me this to begin with instead of telling me I had the right amount in. We'll see.

Now the soap thing, I didnt use soap in the towels, I'm kinda scared to, but I think after I see no more suds I will.

I am going to go buy somekind of powder, I think I will try Gain? do any of you use it? how does it work in the newer models? I use to use Powders in my Frigidaire FL with FS and I didnt like the way the powder didnt rinse from the dispenser, it always left a bit in it, and the FS I didnt dillute with water like they say now days to do, but my washer got the mold on the dispenser where the FS was, I think that is what caused all the mold?

Do you have powder or FS remaining in your dispensers with this machine?

The pause button, when pushed, will allow several seconds to pass before releasing the door latch. Are you waiting a bit after button push? Or does it just not work at all?

Try regular Cheer powder. It is an inherently low-sudsing product but try dosing it at the 1/2 tablespoon level for the first loads. Cheer powder is for sale at Wally-world and Target.

BTW, I have visible water about a quarter of the way up on my door in certain cycles in both Miele and Asko machines - all older models. My doors do seal tight, though, with no add-an-item function beyond the very first few minutes on the Miele and never on the Asko. I had an above the bottom of the door-deep load of water in the Asko for more than a year when I once went away to live overseas forgetting I had a load in process and killed the breakers. I had no leaking that time.

It's possible that the reason it would process normally with a full load vs a much smaller one was that the smaller load allowed the items to bunch up in one place creating an out of balance trigger.

This is not the one that I had a problem with, but this one has been rinsing all the CS that I have been using, no build up yet. On the FS I havent been using but the other washer that they replaced, I would open after it would fill on the rinse cycle and pour cap full mixed with water in under the clothes, I only used it a few times.

This one just isnt working right it wont unlock even waiting minutes but sometimes it will, it even did it when the tech tried to open it, so he just hit pause/cancel again, and ignored the problem.

I goofed at the recommended dosage for Cheer powder: It should be one to one and a half tablespoons.

Don't count your machine out too easily. All my machines are true horizontal axis design so the water I see in the door is pretty much the same front to back. Your machine is a tilted axis machine, so it's deeper towards the rear where you can't see it. But it's still there.
