anyone have vibration problems with whirlpool wfw9200/wfw9400?
Comments (8)I have a Maytag Epic MFW9700SQ1, a sister machine to the WFW9200. Note the '1' after the SQ in my Epic's model number. The '1' represents some type of a revision in the way the machine is engineered. My Epic has the same problem as your Whirlpool with an extremely loose suspension that causes extreme wobbling whenever I try to wash anything. There's no way I would be able to wash anywhere near a load the size that's suggested in the Epic's User Manual. The only time my Epic spins smoothly is when there's nothing in it except water. I can shake the drum easily by hand when empty. When I have a load of laundry in the drum, it actually sinks about 1 1/2 inches. When ramping up and down for spinning, the drum assembly wobbles so badly that it hits the inner sides of the machine and also hits whatever is under the assembly - pump, etc. My Epic is level; that's been checked by a service tech and that's not the problem. It doesn't shake or walk (it's on a very sturdy floor) - just the horrible drum assembly wobbling. Maytag repair has replaced the springs, shocks, and electronic control board. None of these have made any difference at all. I had one service tech state that there was an unrepairable problem with the suspension and authorize a replacement. Maytag insisted on a 2nd opinion. The 2nd service tech claims that this is the way the Epic is supposed to work so there's nothing wrong with it. He did say that Maytag received complaints about vibration issues, so they redesigned these machines with a looser suspension. That's why the drum assembly wobbles so much. I don't know if he was just feeding me a line, or what. All I know is my Epic does not wash as much as it's supposed to, and my machine is getting a lot of wear from the drum assembly wobbling around and bouncing off of everything on the inside. Home Depot would not take it back. I bought an extended warranty. I'm going to use the extended warranty to charge up a small fortune in repair bills as I see fit, and run this Epic into the ground. And then, GOOD RIDDANCE!!! Am I disgusted? Heck, yeah!!! My Maytag Epic woes are linked below. BTW, I have an LG Steam Tromm 2487 in another home - it works like a dream! I'm kicking myself for buying the Maytag Epic. I wanted the Maytag brand to semi-match the Atlantis dryer which still works well. I'm wishing now that I'd bought a non-steam LG. Comments (12)Thanks to all who responded. A comment and 3 questions: Elizabeth92: Thanks for your purchase report. Are you also aware that Lowes has a $100 rebate with Whirlpool on the Duets? Just go to the rebates page on the Lowes site and look for rebates: http://www.lowespromos.com/home.asp and select your purchase date, Whirlpool, Major Appliances and the rebate for a W/D pair is $100, plus a delivery rebate. Because the combined rebates on the Whirlpool are so good, I may go with the Duet wfw9200SQ. As I recall from reading these forums 6-12 months ago, there were a lot of messages about the Duets/Kenmore HT's "throwing" error codes (door lock and an F11 (?, control board error?). Are these still occurring with the new 9200sq -9600TW or have Whirlpool solved the problems? Second, as I recall from this site a year or so ago, there is a way to "force" a profile wash on the Duets. Did it involve starting in a low temp cycle, pausing, and then selecting a high temp cycle to force the heater to step the temperature up? Does this still work on the new 9200SQ, or is there a better way. Finally, if I decide to splurge, how are the new Duet 9600TW Steam washers doing? Any problems? Major benefit over the 9200 for sanitizing clothes? Thanks to all, GTI Here is a link that might be useful: Lowes Whirlpool Rebate...See MoreCold Water Washing
Comments (19)Bloomz...your BRILLIANT...right after he walks in the door I'm going to accidently spill something on him..than I'm going to insist he change into...clothes that my son had in a bag to donate to the Thrift store..this just might work, once lol.. Actually this boy knows how much I love laundry, I could probably even tell him, without mentioning the stink, that I've noticed the stains on his clothes, and your poor mother works so hard trying to keep up with a busy life, why don't you bring your clothes over and I will teach you all about stain removal, and how to properly do laundry so you can surprise your mother by doing the laundry and lighten her load. This might work..and it won't seem too odd since he's heard me plenty of times offer to do peoples laundry. .and he likes making his mother happy, i will think on this and word it just the right way..but I think it will work..and when I talk to his mom I can tell her I'm cleaning my detergent closet out and would she please take a box of detergent off my hands. Than once Kodys at home doing laundry he won't need to use Purex the watered down water lol. Thank you all..I'll give this a try lol....See MoreDon't Bother Washing In Hot Water
Comments (73)Enduring (and Littlegreeny!), I did a search on enzymes and see many of you have been posting about this for years :) Below is a post from Livebetter. LB had read not to use enzymes on fine cottons .. I didn't see any comments on anyone disagreeing. ? On rare occasions, I've had some linens yellow and a couple of white shirts. Is this from anything I'm doing? I never use bleach. I assume oxygen bleach is safe on everything? livebetter These are the typical enzymes and the type of soil they break down to simpler forms for removal by detergent: Amylase (starch soils) Lipase (fatty and oily soils) Protease (protein soils) Cellulase (reduces pilling and greying of fabrics containing cotton and helps remove particulate soils) I have not read that they will âÂÂdamageâ cotton. They will damage wool/silk as wool/silk are made up of proteins and enzymes attack proteins. Enzyme detergent cannot differentiate between a bit of egg stain and a bit of silk so the enzymes will eat away at it. I have read several places where they say not to use an enzyme detergent for fine cottons like Egyptian and Pima (particularly sheets/towels). I personally think an enzyme detergent is only necessary when the laundry warrants it. If it does not contain the above types of stains why would you need them? ItâÂÂs over kill in my mind. I use a mild detergent without enzymes or brighteners on my fine sheets and towels (Vaska Herbatergent). I also use oxygen bleach when needed to keep them white. Never use chlorine bleach as this will destroy the fibres over time....See Moredelairen
