TVs in the Bedroom: Thumbs up or Thumbs down?
Whenever this topic has come up in the past, I have found people to be very divided on whether or not they would include a TV in the design of their bedroom. I’m currently in the middle of redesigning the master bedroom in our home, and yes, a TV will be present. In my opinion, having a TV in the bedroom is a luxury, particularly on cold winter nights. The bedroom becomes the room of choice to get cozy while catching up on a show or two.
But tell me, what about you? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

This beautifully designed master bedroom by Candice Olson features a TV housed in custom made cabinetry. If I recall correctly, from watching the episode on this bedroom, doors pull out to hide the TV. This is the perfect design solution to conceal a TV's presence when not in use.
No concealing of the TV is happening in this bedroom, which features a modern aesthetic and a muted color palette of brown, green and yellow. In fact, most of the examples I found for this Ideabook make little effort to hide the TV screen. It is a trend that most certainly has to do with the prevalence of today's flat screen units. Prior to beginning the redo of my master bedroom, there was an ancient "old school" TV hidden behind the doors of an armoire, for obvious reasons!
Here the TV placed above the fireplace is not a prominent feature of the design. This aspect of the room probably has more to do with the stunning view out the wall of windows than with anything else.
Look closely at the approach taken in this master bedroom...
Mrs. Limestone made a delightful and ironic design decision when installing a TV above the mantel in her master bedroom. Placing a very ornate frame around the screen pokes fun at and embraces the presence of a TV.
I'm drawn to the contrasts in this design. A carved sleigh bed faces a sleek TV, which is hung on a wall of rough wooden planks. This juxtaposition of new and old is continued with exposed brick and a modern barn door. It seems only natural a TV would be part of this mix.
No question what the feature of this room is. Have you seen a larger TV screen placed in a bedroom? It is surrounded by beautiful and simple cabinetry and shelving, I would just like to see the space softened by a few accessories.
I just had to smile when I came across this bedroom. In a nearly all white bedroom, such a tiny white TV fits right in and nearly disappears. The structure around the unit puzzled me until I studied the image closer. Ah ha! I do believe the box around the TV, with its off-centered top, lowers into the cabinetry to conceal the unit! Very clever...
This ultra modern bedroom of white and black and sleek surfaces houses a TV which fades seamlessly into the design. This effect is a result of the graphic black line running the length of the cabinetry.
A beautiful custom built dresser and shelves filling the wall opposite the bed also makes room to hang a TV screen. This is an approach that helps integrate a sleek TV into a traditional room.
Another stunning view! I would most certainly have a hard time focusing on any show being played on the TV in this space.
