I need help deciding what to do.

1. We have no hot water (3 days now).

2. We have oil for heating (and very hard well water; also have a whole house Culligan filter).

3. The current indirect-fired water heater is broken; plumber says itÂs more economical overall to get a new one, instead of fixing this one.

3 options:

1. replace this indirect-fired water heater (Amtrol-7L)

2. go tankless  electric

3. go tankless  oil

What would you do?

Option 1: to replace it w/ Amtrol, quote = $2800 INSTALLed.

Another quote for another brand (?Super Stor Ultra) = $2100 INSTALLED (lifetime warranty).

Option 2: I thought tankless was most efficient, but since we have oil, to use an electric tankless would using electric to heat the water. (I know it takes ~20years to reap the benefit of going tankless over tank).

Jus the tankless unit (Powerstar AE-125; 4gal/min) = $600; don't know how much it cost to install it.

Option 3: never heard of this option until last nightÂs research. 1 brand came up = Toyotomi Oil indirect tank: http://www.tanklesswaterheatersdirect.com/shop/tanklesswaterheaters/toyotomi/toyotomi-tankless-water-heaters-mainpage.htm

It claims itÂs 88% efficient, where the electric tankless = 95% efficient.

This one = $1350; 3gal/min (for 80degrees??); don't know cost to install.

We plan to stay in our house for a long while (15-30 years.) so we'd like something very efficient overall.

household = 2 adults and 2 kids under 4years (who will be teenagers).

thanks bunches.
