Fisher and Paykel washer and dryer
Comments (7)Arkangels, I will second (and third and fourth) everything said here. If possible, take the small step up to the Intuitive Eco washer and Intuitive top load dryer. The cost is only a little more, and the machines rock. I've had mine over a year and-a-half now and they are easily the best washer and dryer I've ever had; front load, top load, or whatever. For the most part the Intuitive can be run "set n' forget" and will clean better than you can imagine, BUT it has enough flexibility that you an modify just about every aspect of the wash sequence (which cannot be done with the EcoSmart model). Want a full, deep hot wash? No problem. Many pre-set Life Cycles to choose from for custom washes (muddy, swim wear, stains, etc.) And the dryer? Wow. Not sure I could go back to scraping lint screens again (I just empty the lint buck once a week as part of trash collection). I love the auto-reversing feature that lets me load it up and never get tangles, and the 24-hour anti wrinkle (periodic tumble) feature is better than any dryer I've seen. Most seem to allow only an hour or two before they stop....See MoreFisher Paykel Dryer- Auto Sensing shuts of dryer, clothes not dry
Comments (3)Are you referring to a topload SmartLoad or AeroSmart dryer? Which specific model number? There is a diagnostic test to confirm the sensor bars are responding. Yes, both bars must be exposed through the grill. Tumbling clothes must touch the bars to register moisture. There's a separate (white) wire connected to each bar behind the grill. Damp clothes touching the bars completes a low-voltage electric across them, though the two wires to the control board to register moisture. No moisture registration = dry clothes, machine shuts off. There also should be a green ground wire clipped to the bottom edge of the machine's FRONT panel,...See MoreOT - recommendations for washer/dryer
Comments (57)We have had four different front loaders with matching dyers. We moved and left the first set behind in 2003, then we moved and left our second set behind in 2005, our third set the washer broke after just three and a half years, now on our fourth set. The first was a kenmore that is no longer made, the second was the small Bosch because we had a small space. The third was a regular size Bosch. And now we are back to the small Bosch because it fits the space. Over all I have been very happy with front loaders and have no regrets about going with a front loader for the fourth time. I have always left the door ajar and never had a smell issue. The gasket on the current one does need to be wiped down every couple of weeks. I have never used any special cleaning anything on or in the machines. I do either use HE laundry detergent or use less of the regular stuff. Right now I am using Charlie's soap, but I have successfully used a pretty wide variety of detergents. As a general matter front loaders have been common in Europe for a long time and have been the dominate technology in laundromats in the US for a very long time. So I find it to difficult to imagine that the general concept is fundamentally flawed. I feel like the FLers get our clothes cleaner with less wear than the TLers I have used. I have never used one of the new TLers without agitator though. I particularly appreciate the water savings as I do a lot of laundry with two kids and dust mite allergies. Plus we have a drought at the moment so I am trying to keep our water use down. I also really like how the laundry gets spun out so well. Shortens dryer time or air drying time quite a bit. As far as a specific recommendation, I have been very happy with the smaller Bosch set, but the bigger one broke down in a very expensive way after too short of a life span so I wouldn't be able to recommend it personally. My main piece of advice would be to avoid doing business with Sears. I had terrible service from them on two different coasts and when I complained about their service reminder calls waking me up at 5am the supervisor told me they would not stop calling at that hour and that she didn't care that they were waking me and my baby up....See MoreNeed Help Deciding on Washer/Dryer
Comments (20)Thanks everyone for all your comments. I have done so much research now on every brand that's been mentioned here. I'm still not sure of what brand to buy since they all seem to have their problems. I have heard that Speed Queen is about the best but it is pricier. I do believe tho that I will stick to an old fashioned agitator model and not go with the HE models. The HE's are much more attractive but it IS just the laundry room. It's so easy to get caught up in all the hype about low water usage, pretty colors and designer looking machines when all I really want is something that will get my clothes clean without ruining them and not break down all the time. I have never had to spend one dime on the old Kenmore washer and dryer that I have now and it's OLD! I know things aren't built like that anymore so will just have to get over it and lower my expectations somewhat, but I still don't want to spend good money on machines that will not last. Whatever I wind up with, I just hope it's not a lemon. I think that's the problem nowadays...the quality is just not there anymore. Too many plastic parts, too many engineering shortcuts. A lot more lemons than there use to be. :(...See Morelooser
