What's for dinner Thursday?

We're not very hungry tonight. Found out from a mutual friend that I lost a great buddy from my GTE days. He and I traveled together a lot. It was towards the end of GTE (now Verizon) and he figured if we stayed on the road they couldn't find us to serve us our walking papers. Other than work, we didn't socialize much. But he was a dear, kind friend. I talked to him last about a year ago. Wish I'd kept in touch more.

Anyway, we're having chicken noodle casserole that I pulled from the freezer. It has some vegetables in it so we'll have biscuits with it and the rest of the coconut custard pie.

Really storming at lunchtime, under severe weather watch and all I had to eat in my place was oatmeal and Bear Creek Navy Bean soup.

Put the navy bean soup on and kept trying myself I liked it. Finally after ONE, the weather letup, and I went to IHOP and had their 2x2x2 then headed right back in.

Disposal was served the Bear Creek Navy Bean soup

I had a can of Progresso Beef and Barley soup not too good. wish I'd brought a Beef Taco salad home from DQ. I loved the old Scotch Broth but cant find it in the stores nymore.

I made the recipe in the below link and it was pretty awesome, but then it's kind of hard to go wrong when that much cream is involved. And a not inconsiderable amount of butter as well. Here is a link that might be useful: Creamy chicken and mushrooms

Old Fixer, I find that the weeds are terrible to pull when the soil is bone dry. I usually leave the root in the soil. :( Fun, I smiled when I read what your dinner was. Did you pop it on the stove, or microwave? We had chili from the freezer. I like mine over rice with a dollop of yogurt to tame the heat.

Mimipadv......we always find that the pineapples get sweeter when we leave them on the counter for a couple of days. When they start to smell like a pineapple we cut it open. Your pork chop dinner sounds delicious. It was cold enough that I was wanting a beef roast. Party, today was definitely chili weather in your area and ours (and Gadgets') Pam what a treat, having filet mignon!! Good for you! Rhizo, I have the urge for quinoa tabbuleh and your dinner confirmed my taste buds wanting that. That's a summer dish for me. Gadgets your chicken and potato wedges sounds good to me too!

Jasdip, we put a big pork butt on the grill over the weekend and enjoyed it with a pile of slaw. It's a full day commitment but seemed like a good Labor Day weekend project. Last night, I made a garlicky, gingery chicken stir fry with lots of fresh vegetables, served with brown rice and toasted almonds. I don't know why I don't make something like that more often, it's a favorite.

Today was my Lunch Bunch day (after which I went to the movie with my Movie Group). We went to my favorite restaurant and I had the Coquil St. Jacque salad and a butternut squash soup. The soup wasn't nearly as good as the one I made last night if I must say so myself, but the scallops were delicious. I will probably have leftover butternut squash soup tonight or a little white chili. Asked DH if he wanted a hamburger but he's pouting because I had a nice day and he didn't. It probably would have gone better if I told him I didn't like the movie. LOL

I fixed chicken strips, then cooked potatoes, corn, green beans in some chicken broth.

I made biscuits and opened a can of chicken ala king. Pretty good, and then for dessert, I had a biscuit with rasberry jam.

Italian sausage-tortellini-carrot-celery-tomato-garlic-zucchini-assorted spices soup. (Almost like a stew) A green salad and rolls and a glass of Merlot. So easy and so good! I made a big pot, so there is plenty left over for the freezer. Love it.

I did something unusual today. At least unusual for me. I made something from a recipe that had more than 3 ingredients.

I like cabbage rolls but never made them. A few days ago on TV I saw Mr. Food making Unrolled Cabbage Rolls. So I watched and went to the website and got the recipe, which is far different from how my friend makes them.

Anyhow I made the recipe and it turned out real good. Now I have enough for Cox's army, but I made room in the freezer for 6 containers.

So that is what I had for dinner: Unrolled Cabbage Rolls.

Went to Bob's Steakhouse for our 38th anniversary. The steak was absolutely delcious. Salad bar came with the steak and of course they had tapioca pudding on it my favorite. We couldn't eat all of our steak so we will have it tomorrow night too.

We had a turkey! Roasted it stuffed with apples, onion, celery and a cinnamon stick. Boy did it taste good!
