Got to craving chili, and then a hamburger and WOW thought of Johnny Rockets.

Away I went for their open face chili burger!

I'm a happy camper now.

How do you like your chili?

I made a pot a couple of days ago. I like mine in a bowl, with Club crackers.

Just with fritos and cheese or a chili dog....don't know what a Johnny Rockets is LOL Stacy

First of all I want to Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your advice & compassion. I have been very stressed over all of this and I could feel the genuine concern you have for our situation. Just to fill in a few blanks, we are both now 56 yo. DH has his BA & MBA & a certified Project Manager. He worked AND went to school at same time. I'm afraid I am lacking in the educational department. I have 2 AA degrees in nothing marketable, & got my RE License about a month(2006) before the market started crashing-but left because of my DM deteriorating health at the time. But, actually I was the main caregiver for both of my parents from 2001 until 2007 in our home until they both passed. Dad had cancer & Mom had Alzheimer/dementia. About 2 months after my DM died (Dec '07) I started babysitting(Feb'08) for my 2 granddaughters until just this past November '09, when I started working part-time again. Can't believe I did the formula, diapers, potty-training all over again, but my girls were a good distraction from my grief. My DS & DDIL paid when the could, what they could,--most of the time, not at all, but I just wanted to help them out & make sure the girls were safe with me. It was never about the income, it was all about what was best for my GDD's. Last summer I looked into a local university here & wanted to start school to get a Gerontoloy Certificate ( would take 18 months) & eventually work in Hospice & for seniors. (Heck, I am a senior now too according to Bob Evans--lol) I guess I am just destined to be a caregiver all my life. I started the application process & was told I would probably be eligible for Finacial Aid, but I think working Full Time has to be my priority now. I've been brainstorming to think of any additional means of bringing in some income--like maybe renting out the in-law quarters of our home. Selling off some jewelry--only about $200.00 worth, but every bit has to help. We're down to 1 car which we "juggle". Right now, everything just seems up in the air. We might know more by this week-end, when either my DH's project goes well or comes crashing down & him with it. I am preparing for the crash down, because in the past few weeks, anything that could go wrong, has gone wrong. Like servers going down for hours, connection problems etc. One manager just walked off the job, because he said he couldn't take the pressure anymore. So, Thank you, thank you, thank you, all for taking the time just to let me talk/write about this & for listening. I know there are those here with far worse problems (health etc) & my problems are miniscule compared to theirs, but I thank you again for your suggestions & support. God Bless ~~ katclaws

In my experience, even tho 99% of the time I want either stark white mats or stark white with a black core, they cut color mats beveled and THEN the customer realizes that there's a white core that's shown through and changes the look of the artwork. (The time I had 4 small royal blue mats cut was when I realized that I hadn't counted on white coming through! Personally, I didn't like it, but for what the artwork was, whatever.) I have never seen samples of a straight cut on a colored mat on anything at the little frame shop I've been to. Or maybe I'm not looking close enough. Maybe the straight cut is a new trend. There are some mats that have silver or gold cores, and that can be easier on the eye than having the white showing. She did end up doing the beveled look you wanted, right? Hope she didn't look at you like you were a dope!

My mom used to be able to take a 20 minute nap, wake up refreshed and ready to go. If I happen to take a nap, I sleep for a couple of hours and wake up with no energy. I only nap when I am sick....if I am not feeling ill, a nap is an omen that some sort of infection is coming. Glad you are able to nap and wake up happy.

YES! Several.We got about 2.5 inches of precip. Totally crazy weather today. Tstorms and tornado touch down just a few miles away, destroyed a couple buildings, sister flew in from Wa,DB and other DS went to get her (2 hr trip) police had road to airport shut down in that city due to flooded streets. More storms and wind, lost power. What a day.

Think Johnny Rockets has other names: Shake and burger or Burger and a Shake????
They have those jukeboxes at each booth that you stick a quarter or nickel in and select your music to be played.

I love chili with cheese on top of a cornbread slice.

Stacy, Johnny Rockets is a lot like a Steak & Shake. Does that help. Kind of like a 50's diner.

I like my chili in a bowl with saltines or with a grilled cheese like we had last night.

OOOOO I like mine with a slice of bread with PEANUT BUTTER...that is how some people here in Missouri eat it...Glenda you MUST try it...LOL

I wish I had read this 6 hours ago! I had a hankering for a burger... never thought of chili but today would have been perfect. Called a friend and we were going to go to Chili's or Red Robin and settled on Red Robin. Then my van wouldn't start - battery wasn't up to it. Surprised me because it had warmed up to a sweltering -9Â° and old "Vanna" always starts like the champ she is. So put the booster on there, fired it up. Had trouble keeping it running. I feared gasline freeze. Once running, I let it run for a while to charge the battery, maybe thaw the fuel line a bit and then thought I'd shut it off and make sure it'd start, and make sure the battery was holding a charge. It didn't. Booster back on. I was determined to get a burger so I was going with or without a charged battery. Started it up and got over there in time for an A1 Peppercorn burger and it was great. Wish I had thought about the chili burger!

Oh, I took the booster/charger with me in case it wouldn't start. Parked close to an outdoor outlet, just in case, but Vanna fired up for me when I left. It hit me on the way home that in this frigid week, I was driving with the defroster on full, headlights on, rear window defroster and probably the radio too. So there's no way the alternator could keep up with charging that poor thing's battery! Didn't even think about that! So, now I'll keep it in mind. One of those DUH moments... Course now it's going up to about 30Â° over the weekend.

Anyway, back to the topic. I like my chili THICK! None of this watery, soupy stuff for me, I want man-food. Something to sink my teeth into. So thick you don't use a spoon, use club crackers, bacon thins or chicken in a biscuit and scoop that stuff up and shovel it in. Not overly seasoned but it must have a bit of a zing, lots of meat, and yes, heresy to some but I want kidney beans! Occasionally some crusty garlic bread on the side, but normally, crackers.

Just another thing I don't get anywhere near enough of lately!!! ;)

one of the draws to get my DH on the cruise was that royal caribbean's majesty of the seas has a johnny rockets lol. i do not usually eat there, it's just too greasy for me but dh LOVES too eat there. well we ate 3 times there on the cruise and i ended up loving it sooo much we've been to our winter park johnny rockets twice since we got back. now i wanna go....good thing i had dinner ~ liz

I think I must've been at a Johnny Rockets' diner, or something very similar in Scottsdale, AZ years ago. I hadn't seen one of those table jukes in decades..just a fun place, but don't remember the food at all.

Like Cynic, my chili is thick..NO kidney beans..'heresy', I say. ;)

Cynic, it's cute the way you talk about your Vanna. Glad you got to where you were going even tho you asked too much of the ol' girl! lolol

Wow, does that ever sound good. (Except for the peanut butter, sorry!)

I haven't been to Johnny Rocket's, but it sounds great.

Don't frequent Johnny Rockets, but being it was cold, the chili burger hit the spot.
