I have the LG DLG2251W and this has been an ongoing problem. They sent me a brand new dryer - had a repair guy come out and he couldn't figure out why it wouldn't dry my clothes. He replaced the motherboard. Came back a second time because it still wouldn't dry my clothes (maybe 50% of the time it would work), and he couldn't figure it out again. So they gave me a brand new dryer. Same problem. All my ducts are brand new. There are no obstructions. THIS IS AN LG DESIGN FLAW. Google "lg dryer spins but no heat" on you tube and the guy explains how to reset the overheat sensor / safety sensor. You probably don't need a new thermostat. I can't believe I have to take apart my machine to find a safety sensor to reset it every time I have this problem (I have yet to figure out where it can be located on my model)... on a $1,000.00 machine. I have a cottage with a $300 Kenmore dryer. Guess how many problems I have with that machine? Nada. None. Zilch. Wanna throw a dry piece of clothing in your LG dryer for a few minutes to get the wrinkles out? hahahaha so funny, think again. Sensor or manual setting, heat does not work. LG seriously needs to fix this problem. I have no problem with their washing machines, but I would never buy an LG dryer again. A waste of money when you consider the HOURS I spend attempting to dry a single load of laundry. What a waste of electricity (on a gas dryer) and money down the drain on a piece of garbage. I can only imagine how much $$ repair guys are making off of these machines that have an obvious design flaw. Avoid LG dryers AT ALL COSTS. The problem isn't specific to any model, it's all their dryers.

The reason mold was historically so much less of a problem for European front loaders is hot water being an important part of the cleaning process. Front loaders arriving in high numbers in the U.S. coincided with the development of excellent cold water detergents and an emerging energy conservation consciousness. Manufacturers then sold the lower end machines in the U.S. without heaters, making the problem worse. How many FL machines, installed in normal humidity and run weekly with hot water, have mold problems? My guess is almost none. Just like in Europe. The other end of the risk spectrum is doing cold water washing with a machine installed in the basement. A very common way of doing laundry in the U.S. Not using enough detergent is also a risk factor. The components of the detergent clean the machine too. It's odd how so much advice on avoiding mold doesn't consider the issue of not adequately removing laundry soils from the machine. When in doubt, the correct amount of detergent is the smallest of the multiple levels recommended by the detergent manufacturer. No one solved their mold problem by just changing detergent types or eliminating fabric softener. They made multiple changes to their laundry practices.

I have an LG pair. While they are quite nice looking machines, they are riddled with shortcomings. For being a direct drive/beltless machine, they have a noisier drive system than any other front loader I have used. They dryer has developed a rattle which cannot be located. I have torn it completely down to the baseplate three times and cannot pinpoint the exact source for the rattle. The washer will frequently abort the SANITARY cycle early without ever heating the water a single degree. I plan on selling these online for CHEAP and getting something better after the first of the year. MRB

dadoes-well, it goes like this. My parents had a set of used maytags that they bought when they got married. Those are the only machines I knew and they were old when they got them in the early 70's. So when I moved out (they were still going strong and were about 25 years old by then) and got married my hubby and I bought our current 14 yo Maytags which also did not have that option. Besides brief college stints at laundromats I've only used the ones I grew up with and my current Maytag's. So I guess I didn't know what I was missing! That said - I am usually behind the curve on most things anyhow so no surprise there. I always joke that we are living in the 80's at my house (esp. with electronics). It was such a tough choice but between the speed queen and the fisher paykel but after himming and hawing at the store we went with FP top load washer and front load dryer. We do have a well and thought using less water would be helpful to lengthen the life of the septic system which is much more costly to replace than a washer and dryer. Store we bought them from says from their experience SQ should last 15-18 years and FP 10ish. We don't do a ton of HOT water washing - just sheets towels so I am hopeful it will be fine. We bought models: WA42T26GW1 (WASHER) AND DG70FA1-US (DRYER). Old dryer they are picking up and washer we are donating as it still works. I made sure the FP had the wrinkle/tumble setting. ;) The speed queen had a model that did that also but they didn't have that one in stock.
