Surgery went well last week..but then another problem

I finally got to go out and go to Church yesterday!!

But while washing up, I noticed a swelling...felt like an abscess. All while sitting at church I was very uncomfortable.

Got home and my DSIL (s=son) left. DD is gone for a few days.

Pain and swelling became worse so I had to call DSIL to take me to hosp. I had an Bartholin cyst. Dr thought I needed surgery to drain it..but his supervisor disagreed and they put me in a private room to drain it. OMGosh...I hope I never have on again!!!

So I am dealing with that...the drainage etc...while still hoping along on one leg.

What a life!!!!

Oh dear, I'm so sorry. Good thing you got it taken care of promptly. I've never heard of that before but did a little search. Looks to be very unpleasant. Take care.

Anything with "cyst" doesn't sound good. Heal up fast.

Congratulations Robin! That's an ambitious first canning session. My first was 4 half-pints of pickled garlic using a jelly kit my roommate had surprised me with, because she knew I was interested in canning. Your asparagus is fine and safe. You don't want it packed too tight or you could create a situation where air bubbles get trapped, which makes the heat processing less effective. Pickled asparagus or dilly beans packed too tight are not safe. Packed too loose is fine. I believe some people can the leftover brine by itself with no veg in it (remember it must come up to the proper headspace, no excess air). Then you can open the brine to use in the next batch. I make dilly beans with as many jars of long ones as I can, then do the trimmings in their own jars. The short pieces seem to stay crisper, I think. Also they are just the right size for oil & vinegar potato salad. There's no safety issue with not washing the pans, but it could cause a quality problem. 1, that smidgen of leftover pectin is getting cooked a long time as the second batch boils, which could affect texture. 2, the stuck-on stuff could burn (as you mentioned) or get overcooked and make the next batch taste less fresh. But if you're just talking about a thin coating of leftover liquid, you could just rinse it, or wipe it out with paper towels. If it's starting to jell I would wash it. Went to Wills Eye Hospital last night (long)

I've been to the emergency room of Wills for exactly the same thing--floaters--years ago. And was there for many hours. It does take a while to be seen, it seems. BUT would you ever go anywhere else? Wills is rated the second best eye hospital in the entire country. Worth waiting for their excellant drs. So how's your wife doing? Hope everything was okay--I'm assuming it is, since the main concern this morning is your length of time in the ER. Have you considered tracking down the chief of staff's name and address and writing a letter addressing the problem and asking if there is any way to solve it for the good of future patients? To be honest, I haven't been so concerned about Wills lately, since DD works for a top doc on 'our' side of the river who has his own surgical center and who--with an 'in' I can get hold of in case of an emergency. But, if you do write, let me know and I'll try to find time to send a letter also (even though my visit was many, many years ago). Good luck to you and your wife

Why does it bother you Soph? I'm not expressing anything besides theres a thousand and one other things I prefer to spend my money on. Generally, Ive found that simple technical questions don't usually require a photo. It would be helpful though to know exactly what product was first applied and what product(s) she is now trying to use . Can this b e deciphered by looking at a photo? Maybe, maybe not. Sure, post a photo but this woodworker/refinisher would still want to know the specifics re products that were used.

Good to hear. As far as closing up it means exactly what it states. An example of what happens is to put your forefinger on your thumb them make a tight fist. This is the example I was given when my esophagus spasms.

I had posted about a month or less ago about my upcoming 2nd surgery on my leg. I had shattered the tibia and fibula bones above my ankle.
I had an external fixator (rods coming out both sides of my heel and coming out my shin bone in 2 places)
Hence, I am hopping around on one leg.
I pray fervently that nothing more will happen!!!
I want to heal and get back on both feet!!

I used to work for a gynecologist....those cysts are not a lot of fun.
Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Sure hope those doctors did a great job draining your cyst. Cyst. The word itself sounds icky! NO more cysts!;)

Oh no Diane. I have had the cysts. Did they put a drain in? They are so uncomfortable.
I sure hope you get better quick. You have had more than your share of troubles lately!

Hope you are soon able to walk on both feet. I know how painful hopping on one foot can be.

Ouch! I had one one those develop a couple of weeks after I had ds#2. I had to go in for out-patient surgery at the hospital. They doctor told me that just aspirating it with a needle wouldn't work. I still have a hole cut out there, but I haven't had any problems with it since. I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear of this extra load.

As it showed up in church ... do you figure that it might be the evil coming out? One would be rid of it, if so. For the present.

I hope that the healing goes well for both of the problems, and that you're back to your regular spritely self soon.
