Surgery went well last week..but then another problem

I finally got to go out and go to Church yesterday!!

But while washing up, I noticed a swelling...felt like an abscess. All while sitting at church I was very uncomfortable.

Got home and my DSIL (s=son) left. DD is gone for a few days.

Pain and swelling became worse so I had to call DSIL to take me to hosp. I had an Bartholin cyst. Dr thought I needed surgery to drain it..but his supervisor disagreed and they put me in a private room to drain it. OMGosh...I hope I never have on again!!!

So I am dealing with that...the drainage etc...while still hoping along on one leg.

What a life!!!!

Oh dear, I'm so sorry. Good thing you got it taken care of promptly. I've never heard of that before but did a little search. Looks to be very unpleasant. Take care.

Anything with "cyst" doesn't sound good. Heal up fast.

Congratulations Robin! That's an ambitious first canning session. My first was 4 half-pints of pickled garlic using a jelly kit my roommate had surprised me with, because she knew I was interested in canning. Your asparagus is fine and safe. You don't want it packed too tight or you could create a situation where air bubbles get trapped, which makes the heat processing less effective. Pickled asparagus or dilly beans packed too tight are not safe. Packed too loose is fine. I believe some people can the leftover brine by itself with no veg in it (remember it must come up to the proper headspace, no excess air). Then you can open the brine to use in the next batch. I make dilly beans with as many jars of long ones as I can, then do the trimmings in their own jars. The short pieces seem to stay crisper, I think. Also they are just the right size for oil & vinegar potato salad. There's no safety issue with not washing the pans, but it could cause a quality problem. 1, that smidgen of leftover pectin is getting cooked a long time as the second batch boils, which could affect texture. 2, the stuck-on stuff could burn (as you mentioned) or get overcooked and make the next batch taste less fresh. But if you're just talking about a thin coating of leftover liquid, you could just rinse it, or wipe it out with paper towels. If it's starting to jell I would wash it. My pain is often hard to figure out, since alot of uninvolved parts react to pain somewhere else, with my fibrmyalgia. The only warning I may have gotten was that my leg started aching at night (which is what I had prior to the meniscus problem). Yes....If I sit or lay down, the pain all goes away, for the most part. I get up, and it starts immediately. I hope its not bone-on-bone pain. You'd think I would have more pain at rest if it was really inflamed. I have had big problems with my foot structure my whole life too. I had surgery on my left foot about 13 years ago, for an arthritis chip in the big toe, and several hammertoes. I had plantar fasciitis alot, because of my tight tendons. After my knee surgery (I think because of my limping), I developed a neuroma in my right foot. I could hardly walk. I got orthotics, and that helped alot. The pain went away completely when it forced my second toe to become a hammertoe. So I'm sure my gait has changed since then, which might be affecting my knee. Also, after my knee surgery I seemed to develop piriformis syndrome.....which eventually went away. Needless to say, I think I was born with an inferior/weak structure. I do know that alot of my tendons/muscles are really tight most of the time. I decided to quit doing my exercises yesterday, thinking it might be hurting it, but my pain got alot worse. So its back to the stretching and strengthening exercises today. Fortunately, I have a cryopak for icing. Another curious thing is that my body seems to fall apart every Fall. This has happened ever since I developed fibromyalgia about 15 years ago. I do take D3 supplements, in the event it has something to do with SAD. I've been to so many docs in my life and I know that not all of them are reasonable troubleshooters. Did your doc immediately realize that yours was the IT band problem? I also think some of the physical therapists know more about some of these things than the docs. Was the doc who diagnosed you an orthopod? Thanks for your help oilpainter.

Exactly squirrel! That is how our doctor works! He would do an exam, studies, etc. and then determine IF we needed to see someone else. He is very good about that. I think it cuts down on alot of unnecessary visits to specialists, etc. And I feel so much more comfortable with my own doctor who knows us and history so well. I also though the radiologist is who would read the x-rays, scans, ect. I trust our internist. Also, in regards to cost, it would only cost me $25 to see my internist, lab work, x-rays, scans, etc. would be no cost. A visit to a specialist would be $30, so even if I saw both, it would cost me very little. I would think it would be a waste of a surgeon's time if it were something minor such as a sprain, arthritis, etc. My internist is also very willing to work with specialists, and therapists. He would not send me to PT without knowing that was what I needed. He can also do injections (cortisone, etc.), if needed, although I have never had that done. My problem was minor and did not need a surgeon. I'm not saying yours is. tina

Why does it bother you Soph? I'm not expressing anything besides theres a thousand and one other things I prefer to spend my money on. Generally, Ive found that simple technical questions don't usually require a photo. It would be helpful though to know exactly what product was first applied and what product(s) she is now trying to use . Can this b e deciphered by looking at a photo? Maybe, maybe not. Sure, post a photo but this woodworker/refinisher would still want to know the specifics re products that were used.

I had posted about a month or less ago about my upcoming 2nd surgery on my leg. I had shattered the tibia and fibula bones above my ankle.
I had an external fixator (rods coming out both sides of my heel and coming out my shin bone in 2 places)
Hence, I am hopping around on one leg.
I pray fervently that nothing more will happen!!!
I want to heal and get back on both feet!!

I used to work for a gynecologist....those cysts are not a lot of fun.

Sure hope those doctors did a great job draining your cyst. Cyst. The word itself sounds icky! NO more cysts!;)

Oh no Diane. I have had the cysts. Did they put a drain in? They are so uncomfortable.
I sure hope you get better quick. You have had more than your share of troubles lately!

Hope you are soon able to walk on both feet. I know how painful hopping on one foot can be.

Ouch! I had one one those develop a couple of weeks after I had ds#2. I had to go in for out-patient surgery at the hospital. They doctor told me that just aspirating it with a needle wouldn't work. I still have a hole cut out there, but I haven't had any problems with it since. I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear of this extra load.

As it showed up in church ... do you figure that it might be the evil coming out? One would be rid of it, if so. For the present.

I hope that the healing goes well for both of the problems, and that you're back to your regular spritely self soon.
