How did you learn to cook? GTKY topic

Did you learn from your Mom or other relative? School? On your own with trial & error?

For me, it was a combination. My mother is the WORST cook. It wasn't till I was a teenager baking chocolate chip cookies for a boyfriend that I learned that they were NOT hard, round balls with burnt bottoms. That fried chicken was not gummy, greasy and cooked in cold grease with a lid on it. Burnt or under cooked potatoes were a staple. Nearly every meal was overcooked!

So I learned to cook Italian food from my Grammy...and I'm pretty darn good at that! The rest of my cooking skills came from READING cookbooks. Gotta say, I'm a pretty good cook, for someone who grew up with the worlds worst cook!
