..and yet another Rainbow Bridge Crossing

Sebastian aka Foofey Boy went to kitty heaven yesterday. Without question the hardest part of pet ownership. I'm sad but not tore up like with Duke. Sebastian was 18 years old and lived a long and very pampered life. Of course we will miss him but he was just ready to go...downhill fast over the last few weeks and yesterday didn't have the strength to get up...we knew it was time. He got his nickname early in life because he would be walking along and spontaneously 'foof' (flop) over on his side. He was a beautiful long hair charcoal colored cat. When we got him I wanted to take his brother because the brother had blue eyes, but Laurie chose Sebastian because he 'looked' at her as if he was picking us and not the other way around.

We'll miss and cherish the time we had together.

Thank you all for the support. It's funny, when we had to put Mojo down last August I took a couple of pictures of him early that day. Afterwards I looked at those pictures and I could see how tired he looked. His eyes looked shallow and his fur had lost it's luster. I didn't notice that looking at him on a daily basis. I didn't take any pictures of Chessa yesterday because of that. But looking at the picture I posted above as well as others from the past, I can clearly see a different dog. She almost looks fat in those photos, but she was never overweight. It's just that I got used to seeing her as she was at the end....nothing but skin and bones. She was so skinny. Her coat was no longer shiny and lustrous, and her eyes were dull. It makes me know that we did the right thing. She was ready. Doesn't make it any easier, doesn't make us miss her any less, doesn't keep my eyes from welling up. But I realize that am sad for me. She is definitely in a better place. My sympathy in your loss. We have three Westies waiting at the Bridge. While it is always terribly sad to lose our pets, the death I most regret is our last Westie -- because we kept him going longer than we should have done, out of our own selfishness. You did the right thing in giving Tikki a loving home and in putting her to rest at the right time.

Losing your so loved Elvira is so hard to bare, I know. That love is what drives most who loose one to put themselves in position to go through it over and over again by bringing in a new pet to love. The love of a dog or cat we want to have always in our lives. Elvira is gone but will never be forgotten even though you can love and be loved again.

Duane, my heart goes out to you but it does sound like it was time and you all knew it.

Eighteen years is very special.

As for moving the thread, none of us care about that kinda thing, it's fine where it is.

Duane, I know how lucky Sebastian was to be a part of your family. I wish you could be care giver to more furbabies; there are just too many who don't get what they deserve.

Duane, I'm so sorry too. Our furbabies are such an important part of our families, and the loss of one is very painful.

You and Sebastian are lucky to have shared so many years; I know he'll live on in your heart.

It's so sad to lose a pet, they really are part of the family (if they're not why have them?) and it's crushing when they go. RIP Foofy boy and hugs to you Duane.

Thanks everyone. I know...I feel the same way...never long enough, but my gosh...I certainly can't complain about him going 18 years....I am realistic and know that despite our best wishes nobody lives forever and our pets don't usually get to that year range. We were really lucky to have him so long and with him being nothing but skin and bones and going downhill gradually over the last 8 months or so made it much easier to deal with. Still sad, but so many animals don't have someone to care for them and coddle/cuddle with the for close to 2 decades it really makes it easier to say...hey..we gave him a great long life and although we will miss him....he went every single mile he could.

Thanks again everyone for the kind wishes. I really appreciate it.
