'Moo Moo' has crossed the rainbow bridge

With much sadness in my heart, I had to put our calico kitty down this morning. She was about thirteen years old,

and she was battling kidney failure.

I was going to take her in for blood work this morning, and had taken up her food last night. She wasn't able to keep even water down this morning. I knew in my heart it was time. She was a sweet cat, and she will be missed.

Thank you all for the support. It's funny, when we had to put Mojo down last August I took a couple of pictures of him early that day. Afterwards I looked at those pictures and I could see how tired he looked. His eyes looked shallow and his fur had lost it's luster. I didn't notice that looking at him on a daily basis. I didn't take any pictures of Chessa yesterday because of that. But looking at the picture I posted above as well as others from the past, I can clearly see a different dog. She almost looks fat in those photos, but she was never overweight. It's just that I got used to seeing her as she was at the end....nothing but skin and bones. She was so skinny. Her coat was no longer shiny and lustrous, and her eyes were dull. It makes me know that we did the right thing. She was ready. Doesn't make it any easier, doesn't make us miss her any less, doesn't keep my eyes from welling up. But I realize that am sad for me. She is definitely in a better place. Linda, I am really glad you didn't rush out and get another dog immediately. A lot of times people do that when they lose a pet, and sometimes in their grief, they don't make the best decisions. My co-worker's boyfriend just lost his 15 year old poodle a week ago... the next day he came home with TWO poodles that cost 1000 dollars each! He was drinking again, and threatening to hurt himself, apparently the old dog was is only reason for living. What you wrote describes the way I see it perfectly.... you can't replace the old friend, nor should you try, but you still want the companionship. I can't wait to see the thread that includes pictures and the story about the new, very lucky friend you've adopted when the time is right. Continued hugs...

Kittiemom, I'm so sorry to hear about Stormy. And you Lydia as well. I had no idea about your kitty. It kills us every time we have to do this (and I've done it a few). We have to remember that it's the best thing for our pet, even if not the best for us. They had a great life, and believe it or not, there's room in your heart for another fur-pet when the time is right. I can't imagine not having a cat, and I can't see myself without one.

Thank you every one for all the kind word, poems & hugs. It was a hard decision but we wanted her to go out on the high road. We made the mistake one time of hanging on to a dog to long for our own selfish reasons & vowed to never do that again. When I spoke to one of the staff at the vet's office she said to bring her in. After speaking to Doc he agreed. He remembered us hanging on to Casey to long. Of course I stayed with her the whole time, my husband was at work. We are really missing that sweet little dog, we took her every where with us. Sleeperblues, so sorry to hear about your dog.. You did not hijack this thread, you extended your hand out to me because we are in the same boat right now. On the bright side-Calico Kitty is enjoying having her food bowl being kept on the floor now. Biscuit loved sneaking a bite of cat food.

Trin, I know you will see each other again. I also know from personal experience that a kidney failure death is terrible for a cat. You did the right thing.

I'm so sorry, Trinity. I sent a little prayer to Midnight to be on the lookout for Moo Moo. She left me for the Rainbow Bridge two years ago and I know she'll take care of your baby.

Many hugs to you. Sometimes it's really hard to do the right thing.

I'm so sorry, Trin, you're going to miss her very much. I remember the day we had to put our calico to sleep, it was about the hardest thing ever, calicos are really special cats. It's so hard to lose a beloved pet.

Thanks for all you kind words. I have just been crying off and on all day. These animals really tug at your heart strings.

She started off life with the name of Alex. We got her as a buddy for our older male cat. They were inseperatable.
He died January 2 years ago, and she mourned him for months.
My youngest daughter always called her Rexia. My DH always called her smoozer. I always called her Moo Moo. She answered to all of them.
The vet had everyone of these names in his computer. They know us well and always asked, so, what would our name be today?
I will soon have to go and put up her things, just haven't even left my computer room since 9 this morning. I guess I am in hiding so I don't have to face the reality that she will not be coming home.
Thanks for letting me tell the story of her name. It helps to get past the hurt.
