Oh, Linda, I'm so very sorry. He is still such a young dog. I truly believe he will be happy in that meadow by the Rainbow Bridge, whole and healthy, running and playing with the other pets who have gone on ahead of their beloved owners. One day, in the future, he will stop playing, look up, see you coming and run, happy to see you and you two can cross that special bridge together. ((((((hugs))))))

As Dotmom said, the Rainbow Bridge is a wonderful place, although it makes me cry every time I see the title.

I gave the poem to a friend of mine who lost her dog at only 2 with a stroke. He was a Burnese Mtn dog and apparently they have a history of dying young. She thanked me for the poem and was bawling her eyes out as she read it.

Oh, I'm so sorry. You are, of course, giving him a last and loving gift. It will be better for him, but torture for you. Hugs and understanding headed your way.

My heart really goes out to you, Linda, but I think you have made the best decision for Jake. If he is having problems already at this age, you are probably saving him from a lifetime of discomfort.

We have an older lab and I know the day will come when we have to face the same thing...I would do anything to save him one minute of pain, discomfort, confusion, etc.

Jake is blessed to have such a caring owner...I happen to believe you will be together again one day...because love never dies!

Linda, my heart breaks for you and your family. We had to put our dear Maggie down a few years back because of the poison dog food additive from China, it was the worse choice we ever had to make and watch happen. I'm so very very sorry for you dear.

You have my sincere sympathy. I've been through this with elderly dogs recently, but it's extra hard when the animal is young and the illness unexpected. I hope you'll be comforted knowing Jake is out of pain, and I hope you believe, as I do, that you will see him again someday.

Oh gosh, Linda, I'm so sorry. Do you have to go by yourself? I'd drive down there to go with you if I could. That is just the hardest decision to make. It sounds like your vet was really good at helping you. Will keep you in my prayers today, Linda.

I am so sorry for both you and Jake - this is a terrible loss!

I am so sorry. Such a terrible decision to have to make, but the best for Jake....I just HATE seeing animals put through major surguries when you don't know what will come out. When the time is right, you can always go over and talk to Sue again.

Flamey, my vet said it could have been something he was born with. The other day he was chasing a rabbit and DS said he crashed into a fence post. He had a small cut over his eye and he could have torn something in his chest.

Oh Linda, I am so sorry. Your time with Jake was much too short, that is not fair. Bless your sweet, sad heart.

Don't second guess your decision (I put a 10 yo horse down and did for a while). It was the best for him and like someone said - odds are he would have been in great discomfort all his life. Surgery is not always a cure all for problems like this.
