Comments (67)Linda, I am really glad you didn't rush out and get another dog immediately. A lot of times people do that when they lose a pet, and sometimes in their grief, they don't make the best decisions. My co-worker's boyfriend just lost his 15 year old poodle a week ago... the next day he came home with TWO poodles that cost 1000 dollars each! He was drinking again, and threatening to hurt himself, apparently the old dog was is only reason for living. What you wrote describes the way I see it perfectly.... you can't replace the old friend, nor should you try, but you still want the companionship. I can't wait to see the thread that includes pictures and the story about the new, very lucky friend you've adopted when the time is right. Continued hugs......See More..and yet another Rainbow Bridge Crossing
Comments (12)Thanks everyone. I know...I feel the same way...never long enough, but my gosh...I certainly can't complain about him going 18 years....I am realistic and know that despite our best wishes nobody lives forever and our pets don't usually get to that year range. We were really lucky to have him so long and with him being nothing but skin and bones and going downhill gradually over the last 8 months or so made it much easier to deal with. Still sad, but so many animals don't have someone to care for them and coddle/cuddle with the for close to 2 decades it really makes it easier to say...hey..we gave him a great long life and although we will miss him....he went every single mile he could. Thanks again everyone for the kind wishes. I really appreciate it. Duane...See MoreWe bought a Rainbow Bridge
Comments (20)It has been suggested by many people that we should do a title search on the property so today I called my friend that is the County Clerk and explained the situation. The Recorder of Deeds happened to be sitting in his office so they told me what to do. I went to the court house and started with the old books that show everything starting in the late 1800's from the time the land was subdivided and it only had transfers of the deed. I then checked the computer which has everything since the late 1980's and the only two things that have been and still are on the property are two liens by the city for rubbish removal for $110.00 & $135.00. Both had been put on the property within the last two years after the husband passed away and the wife left the property uncared for. They then sent me to City Hall where I spoke to the legal department. Both ladies there were really nice and thanked me for what we are doing with the cemetery. The total owed to have the liens removed is just under $350.00 so that is no big deal. It could have been worse. A title search would have cost $500.00 to find out that $350.00 is owed. It only took me about an hour total to find everything out on my own. Everyone I have spoken to has been very helpful. The property has never been issued an address so I called zoning and they transfered me to public works. They are going to go check out the property and then will email me an address for the place. Our insurance guy needs to have it for the liability insurance. I will be glad when all of the legal stuff is finished and I can get busy giving the place a much overdue grooming. A local man contacted us yesterday after reading the story in the paper and offered to donate a bunch of hostas and daylillies. He is not an animal lover but he likes what we are doing for others....See MoreMy black kitty crossed the rainbow bridge today
Comments (63)Yes, I have saved some on Petfinder as well. I am also starting to see some cats on Nextdoor. Someone posted their roommate is moving cross-country and can't take her 3 cats. We got our little girl through Nextdoor. A couple was breaking up and they had 4 dogs and 4 cats that mostly needed to be re-homed. It is way too soon to think about new cats right now but I am hoping in the coming weeks that we will feel ready again. She's so sensitive I don't want to stress her out more by bringing someone in. After my previous cat died, we thought Shelby was too old and grumpy for a companion, but they got along great. Still, need to think about age of a new pet, gender, etc. She is 10 but very energetic....See More
