weigh in on your favorite front loader and dryer!
Comments (23)I have had a Duet 9400 for almost 2 years. No troubles. You have to run your utility sink's hot water before running a warm wash in the Duet (similar to what you should do with your dishwasher). The Duet heater only works on sanitary and whitest whites settings. The highest spin on the Duet gets your clean clothes almost dry, which in my experience has shortened the dry cycle (I have an older, non-matching Maytag dryer with moisture sensor - never takes an hour to dry.) The quick wash is great for towels/lightly soiled things, and is about 25 minutes. The delicates cycle works really well. I LOVE the spin only cycle for the few things I still handwash. Tip: ALWAYS leave the washer door open, at least an inch, when not in use. As a precaution you should run a HOT water-only wash with bleach every few months. They recommend wiping the rubber gasket thing by the door after each use, but I never have. I've never had any bad odor or mold, but I was well-aware of other FL owners having these troubles, and my installer recommneded leaving the door open so I always have. Good luck! You will not regret purchasing a FL as long as it is properly installed and you read the manual. Another tip: Try Sears' HE powdered detergent. I buy it by the huge bucket-full and find it works very, very well and does not produce lots of suds which can cause all sorts of computer problems for the FL....See MoreExperience with Duet in mid-size front-loaders? Comments (1)I have the Duet Sport HT set - about 5.5 years old. They have been flawless - no problems. Nothing fancy, but they have adequate cycles, a heater if I need it and my favorite part is the way the clothes come out of the washer so dry. Much better than the ancient laundry center they replaced. I bought them partly because of space limits and partly because of the price - they were 1500 for the set - which was great at the time. I don't know what the prices are now - I hope I don't need to buy any for a while. Many of the problems you read about are operator error - overloading, too much/wrong soap, not leaving the door open. I run a Clean Washer cycle every 2-3 months and I have no smell or yuck in the machine. Good luck with your shopping....See MoreOpen box front loaders. experience?
Comments (16)I apologize to those who were offended by my comments regarding insurance companies. I was only trying to share a bit of the knowledge I have picked up in the last 34 years that I have been in the appliance sales and repair business. The investigations that I have been asked to perform never happened and the question, is the model and serial number plate intact?, on the forms I filled out was never really there. You are right, data plates are not necessary, and your insurance company doesnÂt really care that you have an appliance that was officially scrapped by a manufacturer as unfit for sale and is possibly a hazard in your home. As to used appliances, all the ones I ever sold have a data plate on them. The data plate gives tracking information. With the model and serial number you have a unique unit that if something were to happen to the product the insurance company will try to track down who worked on the product and subrogate against them. If the servicer did his job correctly they will have a service ticket with the model and serial number and what parts were used. If the servicer didnÂt do anything "funny" like modifying a Whirlpool motor to work in a GE appliance, or more common, improperly splice wires. Then the insurance company will subrogate against the part manufacturer. As I said before call your insurance agent and check with them. They should be able to let you know if you will be covered. I genuinely hope that your agent gives you the OK....See MoreFront Loaders or Top Loaders??? PLEASE help!!!
Comments (18)I have had the Samsungs with the VRT now for 2 1/2 months and love them. Mine are on the first floor, but the only time I hear it is when if fills with cold water (for some reason I don't hear the hot water going in). Even on the highest spin speed I NEVER hear it spinning. I think these were designed specifically for 2nd floor laundry rooms. I had Maytag Neptunes before these and it thumped loudly when it was trying to balance itself. Oh, and my Samsungs are on pedestals which usually makes the vibration worse, but as I said these are way quieter than my Maytags which were not on pedestals. If I was concerned about the vibration I would have ceramic tile put in the laundry room which would limit the vibration. My sister has her laundry on the 2nd floor with ceramic tile which slopes toward a drain in case her machine would flood. Very smart idea by whoever built that house. PS - mine are the 328 Samsung models. Do a search on the laundry forum and you will get lots of responses!...See Moredadoes
