I go to dinner tonight to a fancy restaurant with Dh and tommorrow we spend it with the kids and family and usually BBQ

I'm the mom, so no cooking for me. I actually don't care much about Mother's Day. My b-day is in 2 weeks which is much more important to me because it is *my* day alone, no sharing. :-)

We're going to a work related party so I'll take that as an opportunity to join the CF Appetizer party. Guess I better start reading Ann's book...

Every year I host brunch at my house for Mother's Day. This year it looks a little "iffy" on the weather, I am keeping my fingers crossed! We usually do kind of a pot-luck garden party outdoors.

I'll be putting a ham on the grill, also making Caramel Apple Breakfast Pudding, Bloody Mary Shrimp and, if I have time, maybe a pan of Sherry's Spinach Brownies. My sister is bringing an Orzo Salad, and my mom is bringing Potato Salad. The other dishes will be a surprise!

I invite my family, the neighbors and a few close friends, we usually end up with about 15 for brunch.

I may make a bucket of those killer Banana Daiquiris, too! LOL

I'm the mom in the family now, and I'm going to cook for the kids. Since I live alone, I don't cook much any more, so it's a pleasure to cook a real meal, and the kids are happy to let me do it!

I just found out yesterday that my son is planning to cook dinner for me. What a treat! He gets off work at 2:00 p.m., so I expect dinner sometime around, oh, say 10:00 p.m.? I don't care, as he's been so busy with school and working, I haven't seen him for a few months. It'll just be fun to visit.

I'm not cooking either. My son is coming tomorrow and taking us out to brunch! Right now my son's block in South Philly is being filmed for an episode of Dinner Impossible! I can't wait to hear all about how it went. The chef's mission was to make a block party for them. I wonder if my son will get in the show at all!!! I'll find out tomorrow.

I don't have to cook tomorrow either. We are picking up DMIL and then going to our son's house where he will be grilling for all the moms - his DW, her mother, her sister, and us. With kids and spouses we will probably be about 14 in all. I know it will be fun.

Sankum, I'm looking forward to hearing about the recipe that you are cooking for your mother.

Sands, if it makes you feel any better, my oldest son is out to sea in a sub, and my daughter is half the country away in Portland, so I'm only getting to see one out of three. Hopefully I'll get to see my DIL and grandson, though. They're down staying at her folks while my DS is off to sea.

I DON'T KNOW! We had our huge get-together last week at Yosemite, it was grand. DD and her hubby are coming today, we'll cook something easy and relax, like Chinese stirfry. I have Swedish pancakes planned for breakfast if itsounds good then. We always stay home for mother's day. I'd rather avoid restaurants on this day. Any other day is always better, DH and I would rather eat small meals.

Indian recipes? I vote for that. Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Don't cook, Don't Clean, Don't do Laundry on Mother's Day!

We started a tradition a few years ago...my sister, my nieces and I go out to a very nice restaurant (no kids or husbands)order up martini's, cosmo's, or whatever and have a blast all afternoon! It's OUR DAY to enjoy!

I'm doing my laundry tonight while my son is at Prom and I think my hubby and son are getting a pizza for me tomarrow. Happy Mother's day everyone!

I'm with those who say they are doing "nothing"! LOL! That's why I'm on line right now doing what I love best. My daughter is a mom too, so she is spending time with her family. My mom is coming over next weekend to celebrate because she, my hubby and myself all have birthdays next week. We'll have a bash next weekend for the family. I am loving my day today!

Well I've already broken some rules...I made breakfast for hubby and I..I just put a load of wash in the machine, I've emptied the dishwasher and began to refill it, I swept the living room...Although Hubby is making baby backs on the grill, and "claims" he'll cook the rest of the meal too..I just have to tell him what it is..LOL

Sunday's are my catch up day from the week..so I'll just have more to do if I didn't do it today anyway..

It's a beautiful sunny day, just very BREEZY...

We had beef and chicken fajitas and all the trimmings, tamales, pinto beans, rice, pico, guacamole, roasted corn and black bean salad, green salad and birthday cake (DD's Birthday) and homemade vanilla ice cream Everyone just left and I am tired,,,

DH made me a very good omelette this morning, served with cinnamon rolls. Earlier in the week he had planned to cook a steak on the grill with baked potato, fresh green beans, rolls and carrot cake for dessert. Then he just surprised me with lobster tails today so it will be surf and turf. All my favorites! YUM!

Hubby is in the kitchen right now making "his" version of Mac N Cheese. I prepped some asparagas for him to add to the grill for me. I'm the only one that loves asparagas and it's locally grown!
He will have some sauted spinach and I'll throw some frozen corn on the stove top too...

Oh and I put some red potatoes on the stove to cook, I think we'll toss them in vinagrette.

We had a nice lunch; both kids and their SO's came. I made quiche, but instead of a crust in a pie pan, I made them in individual ramekins, like creme brulee. It worked well, and I have three left, which will give me three good breakfasts this week. It's a nice way to use 4 eggs to feed 8 people (if necessary).

I had the obligatory lobster salad from Wegman's, and fresh Maryland Eastern Shore strawberries for shortcake.

All in all, a very nice day.

I've just returned home from a 9 day road trip with my cousins, where we ate EVERY meal out, too many of them ho-hum.

So, I'm really craving some home cooking even if I have to do it all myself. But I'm not cleaning up....

I made a "Bambi & banger" curry, with sides of chana dal, basmati rice, and stir-fried veg. I started out using a lump of venison a hunter-friend had gifted us last autumn, but when my brother and SIL decided to join us, I had to quickly defrost a pack of dinner sausages to augment the quantities. Yum!

It's not my favorite day...but I took the grands and we joined DH & MIL for brunch at a local hangout. Nice, not fancy, noisy enough for the kids and dinner was brought in by DH from Tony Roma's. Nothing great but together with my parents, DD, DS and the little ones. I cleaned up then we gave the lttle ones a bath and put them to bed. I've been staying at DD's until she's up to full speed. Life is full!

I baked two loaves of rye/whole wheat bread and make chicken breast using a modified version of Ming's cilantro oil. I also roasted some Yukon Gold potatoes and used the same oil on them as well. I have four more chicken breasts in the freezer already in the cilantro marinade. The marinade was very simple - just cilantro, spinach, olive oil, lime juice, and salt. I may have put some garlic in - I can't remember. For vegetable, I boiled some frozen peas. I still seem to be putting more things into the freezer than I take out, however.

We had a family picnic with DH's parents and siblings and our DD. Everyone brought something. I made Lar's Algerian Chicken and a regular chicken (some don't/can't eat spices of any kind), spanakopita, prawns wrapped in prosciutto and barbecued served with a dijonnaise dipping sauce, banana bread and pavlova. Others brought nice bread, potato salad, potato chips, gourmet cold cuts and fruit kebabs. It was all good. Dinner was leftovers :-).

On mother's day I cook what my mother requests and for the past 4 years she has requested prime rib. So that's what we had.
Standing rib roast rubbed with salt, pepper and oregano
oven roasted fingerling potatoes
quick sauteed haricots verts topped with pan roasted garlic (3 heads worth!)
individual yorkshire puddings
fresh strawberries & a bishop's cake topped with lemon curd & raspberries for dessert.

I was exhausted at the end of the day but it was well worth it. Everything was fantastic. I was home with my feet up & a well desrved drink in my hand by 6:30 and my son fell asleep on the couch by 7. So my mother's day present was being able to read something other than Clifford the Big Red Dog before I went to bed ;-).

I cooked 3 different kabobs on the grill...steak and mushrooms in a rosemary balsamic marinade, chicken in a southwest with a tangerine glaze and a tangerine pomegranate relish, pork tenderloin in a jerk marinade. Roasted potatoes, mac and cheese with broccoli and shallots, ceaser salad and I made the dressing from scratch. And a 4 layer vanilla cake from scratch!

by the time we ate I was ready to fall asleep...but then I had to clean up! But it was worth it. Everyone loved the food.
