Easter Cookies with help from San and Doucanoe

The Princess and Bruvver spent the night with me last Thursday and when I took them home on Friday we made cookies. Bruvver helped cut the dough, we used the cookie cutters that Linda (doucanoe) gave me in Chicago, shaped like a bunny and a carrot:

Makayla had more fun with the colored cookie dough that we shaped ourselves instead of cutting:

We made a whole pan full of shaped cookies, including a tractor for Bruvver:

Makayla made a butterfly:

We put together a Bunny House, using a pattern for a Christmas Gingerbread House but decorated it with marshmallow bunnies and malted milk ball eggs:

The Princess and Bruvver were proud of their Bunny House, even though Bruvver says it's dumb to make a cookie house that you aren't supposed to EAT. (grin) He's right, of course.....

Because he couldn't eat the Bunny House, we gave Bruvver some leftover marshmallows and and bottle of sprinkles that San sent him. That made him happy:

He sprinkled. He may have gotten a bit over zealous with the sprinkles.....

Not one to miss a party, my mother came to help. We put her right to work.

Aunt Ashley had to work, so we saved her some cookies:

The Princess had to sample a cookie. Hey, it's a carrot! That's a vegetable and therefore it's healthy and good for you. Um....yeah.....

Geez, I wish there were cookies left, now I'm hungry!

OMG!! The "princess" is a teenager and "bruvver" a rotten 8 year old!
Where does the time go!
And they are adorable "old kids"....and your mom is quite the adorable "young chick!"
And a good time was had by all...

Yes, LindaC, I know. If you think she looks grown up there, here's a picture I took the same day, after she changed from her cookie baking clothes.

I have to bake all the cookies I can now, before she's any bigger. Sigh.

My experience with Hirt's was overall positive. Just not quite what I was expecting. I was expecting a plant that I could just put into the pot I already had picked out and then maintain it. I wasn't interesting in dividing, repotting, etc. But it's all good. This is a learning experience and something my daughter and I can work on together. A third sans that I received from Hirt's looked terrible. It should have been on clearance. It had many clipped off leaves, some leaves with brown mush at the soil level, some with mushy tips, etc. I called Hirt's and then emailed some pics. They replied the same day and apologized and refunded my money for that plant. I have taken this plant and cut off the mushy leaves, divided and repotted it. I figure even if it dies, I'm not out anything since my money was refunded. I appreciate the help I receive here. I do not have any friends who are interested in houseplants. Wouldn't some of you up North like to move down here where it's nice and warm? :)

Lpink, I thank you for the sacrifices you have made on my behalf! LOL Your cookies look much better than mine from that recipe did! Although I have not experimented more with that particular recipe, I have tried the 1/2 butter and 1/2 shortening in the Tollhouse recipe, with no noticeable improvement. I do find parchment a good idea, and am using it almost always for cookies, now. But it doesn't seem to keep the cookies from spreading, it just makes it easier to remove them from the pans, and cleanup is quicker. I just finished a batch made with my sister-in-law's tried and true recipe and still....flat cookies. I do believe someone has put a cookie curse on me! Linda

Shelley, you know you are ALWAYS invited, just knock on the door and come right on in. (grin) That goes for everyone here. The food was good, especially the salmon which Elery cooked on the grill. I could have lived without the store-bought cupcakes, LOL, but Mother brought them and who am I to turn down a gift, especially one made with sugar. (grin) We do usually have fun, we all manage to get along pretty well pretty much all of the time. That means everyone recognizes my authority as Empress of the Universe, LOL. Cathy, she's sure getting big, isn't she? I've been invited to her very first school concert in a couple of weeks. She's excited and tells me that she's going to sing "B-I-N-G-O". Those are some great looking cookies! You've got some professional cookie decoraters there. I can't believe how big they've gotten. Sigh. Time really does fly.

Annie, Aren't you happy for the memories in baking? I love how you "document" your time together with your Grandchildren. I need to get busy.

The cookies really look very good for the babies to have decorated...oh yeah, I forgot, their not babies anymore. I've always said that they are some of the prettiest children I've ever seen. Time goes by so quickly.

What great pictures! Looks like a great "bonding & baking" time with the grands! Glad they gave the cookie cutters such a good workout!

Annie, you've made all of us part of your family with pics and reports on family doings. It is so nice to be included.

BTW, another tractor fan here. I used to own one and wish I still did. Bruvver is a kindred spirit, I'm sure.

RR, they grow so quickly, I want to have pictures so I can remember when I was still the center of the universe for The Princess, and when Bruvver would still climb on my lap and kiss me. I want to remember that "Alfalfa" cowlick Bruvver always has, and Makayla's curls. Gotta take pictures, Maggie will be in college before you can blink!

Linda, that cookie cutter is the only thing that will ever get Makayla to eat a carrot, I swear. (grin) Or a rabbit either, for that matter, LOL.

Jim, Makayla rides Copenhagen every chance she gets but Bruvver is happiest on a tractor. Or a loader. Or the bulldozer. LOL He loves to go "two tracking" with the Jeep and his sister is happier on horseback. I'm also happier on horseback but when I sold that little old Allis Chalmers C model that Dad and I put together from parts in boxes, I cried. I loved that tractor, even if it did need a new throw-out bearing (which cost $20 for the part cut you had to crack the tractor in half to replace, LOL).

Yup, definitely had to make a tractor cookie, even if I didn't have Allis Chalmers orange cookie dough....

Oh Annie, the cookies are adorable, the babies are adorable, and tell your Mom I still love her sourkraut and sausage. I get my little grandbabies this coming weekend for the whole weekend.

They are so cute! The cookies turned out great and love the idea of an Easter house! With faces like that they must never get yelled or into trouble...they are just too adoreable to get mad at.

Katie, Bruvver was just a baby yesterday. He's still a baby when he's tired and wants to sit on my lap and snuggle.

Shelley, they are cute as heck, aren't they? Trust me, appearances can be deceiving, LOL. Bruvver is the happiest little guy I've ever seen, he can do the naughtiest things with that big ole' smile......

Sherry, The Princess tells me she can now count to a thousand, so she's going to start doing the books for Dad's garage. I figure we'd better start them in their own businesses early, LOL. She's kind of like us...

Looks like San and Linda set y'all up good. Enjoyed the dinner pics on the other post too. Trust me, they will remmeber these times forever...I sure do from WAY back when. Having said that.. I'm feeling older again, man those two sure are growing up fast Annie.
