There may be some logistical reasons you choice is the preferred one:
- It has more exposed countertop for cleaning. (The other one has three points above the sink cover as well as the cover itself where debris or mineral deposits could accumulate.)
- Is there a height difference in the spout? There is more room for a pot between the spout and the stem because of the shape. Do they both rotate?
- The handles are one piece rather than ''pieced'' together.

It would also depend on how many other items are ''way over budget'' in my house. Pick your battles. If this in one, go for it.

umm..tell dh that's like calling a VW bug and an Escalade the same thing. They both have wheels and go, but they're not even near the same.

Gosh, the PP really has that rustic look that goes beautifully with your house; look at the pump handles! The 'other one' is kind of girly & curvy; more a French look to my eye.

If you end up with the 'other one', I'm sure it'll be fine. But I SURE hope you can find the money for the PP!

ajpl; MY goodness, we certainly think alike. I was looking at that one too, but changed my mind when DH pointed out that the one faucet that is not working properly in our new build is the shower in the guest bath and that is a Pf. I have also read some posts about it here and there are some negative responses, although there are some positive too. Anyway I have switched my thinking to a single handle anyway. I'm trying to stay within the under $200 range and it's difficult. Since we are both DIY-ers another thought is that we can always replace it easily enough if it doesn't work out.

Well, it DOESN'T look the same at all. The pull down sprayer will be a feature you'll love. I hate to tell you this but-----DON'T LISTEN TO HIM on this one. Next time he wants an expensive tool, tell him to get the cheap one. After all, it LOOKS the same.

Those two faucets are not at all the same. There's no comparison. And remember, you will be using this faucet many times a day, and it will be the first thing you see in your kitchen. You are going to be unhappy all for a couple hundred dollars difference (I am assuming). But more importantly, you did not say exactly what your faucet budget is. Can you tell us? You may not have shopped the 'net the way some experts on this forum have, and can help you with. There are amazing deals on eBay. Also, you will find websites like Homeclick.com not only have cheaper prices to begin with than a brick-and-mortar store, but also offer weekend sales of 8-12% off, and no sales tax, and free shipping. Also, perhaps you can compromise on the finish--which finish are you looking at, and is it significantly more expensive than other finishes for this faucet? Perhaps this faucet is in your budget after all, or close enough to squeeze it in. In the scheme of an entire kitchen re-do, the faucet is a small percentage, yet has a big impact. Let us know your faucet budget, and what prices you are looking at with this faucet.

The faucet is most visible, and highly used. Go for quality & looks -- this is not the place to cut corners.

I definitely prefer a pull out or pull down sprayer rather than a side spray, & a single lever to control water temperature in the kitchen.

I'm glad I'm not just a whiny spoiled brat (or at least if I am, I'm not the only one)!

The Peerless is $200 at Canadian Tire. The one I like looks like it is going to be over $400 but I can't find it in any brick and mortar store in my area.

I could convince DH to spend $200 but he's going to freak about more considering he'd be happy with one of those laundry tub faucets you see for $30 at HD. I do like the suggestion to tell him to buy the cheaper tool next time ;)

I live in Nova Scotia and my choices are generally Home Depot, Kent, Canadian Tire and a few very overpriced (IMO) bathroom/kitchen stores. I would be happy to order online but I've found the shipping and subsequent duty charges to be really high when using american websites. I did order my bathroom faucet through a friend in the states and paid the actual shipping costs to her and skipped the duty but I didn't receive it soon enough to have a valid warranty. Maybe that wouldn't happen with this company.

Wow, I am not normally a fan of that particular style (DH and I both tend to prefer a more contemporary look), but I can see why you have fallen for this particular faucet - it is beautiful! I love the way it manages to combine a more rustic feel with such relatively clean lines. You definitely need to fight for this one. As others have said, the other faucet doesn't even come close.

Really. That faucet was in my top three. I guess it's a good thing I didn't choose it, as hateful as it is.

Awwwww! I HATE faucets! Why do they have to be so difficult?? And expensive. I was blown away by how expensive they are. But that is one area I didn't want to skimp *too* much. Definitely get what you want now, otherwise you'll be sad every time you look at that faucet. In the grand scheme of things...what's an extra hundred dollars when compared to the JOY you will feel looking at that beautiful faucet?

And for vjrnts, we all have different tastes. It's amazing how much feeling inanimate ojects evoke! And when building/remodeling, we have to have very strong opinions and feelings on inanimate objects! I happen to love the second faucet too, but as a completely different style than the first.

On the other side of the spectrum...faucets can be switched out at any time. The holes are both 8 inch centered on both faucets so if you really can't find a way to make it work; consider replacing it when you can afford it.

I have to say though, the faucet you picked out is both beautiful and unique. As a matter of fact, I wish I had seen it before I chose mine.

So if you can afford it, go for it. I have had cheap faucets and expensive ones, and there is definitely a difference in the feel and qaulity of the more expensive fixtures.

BUT, I agree with gizmonike, that I MUCH prefer a single lever temperature control in the kitchen. Is there a reason you want two controls? Or is it that this design comes only with two?

I'm not trying to make things even more difficult, but think of how many times a day your hands are gunky, yuckky or dirty and you need to turn on water with one hand, or even just the back of one hand cuz your hands are BOTH so dirty? AND often I have something I want to rinse in one hand and I turn on the water with the other.

This one is not as unique as the first one, but just thought I'd show you an option.

I've never been a fan of single lever faucets. I don't mind the look for some kitchens but I don't think it's what I Want in my rustic/cottage/primitive kind of kitchen I'm going for. I've never been bothered by two controls but I've only ever had a single control once and it was cheap. Maybe it's a case of not knowing any different? I do like the one you posted but something about the single control says no to me.

That PP sure is pretty, but I wouldn't do it. We put a chrome PP in our last kitchen and the sprayer broke within about 2 years. My mom also had a PP with a copper finish, and the finish peeled off in spots. Does Kohler have anything similar?

That sucks about the PP experience. Kohler doesn't have anything I really like but I noticed the prices are even higher!

I've committed to a lot of the PPf 'Ashfield' [like your photo] for my new house, but after placing the order, I haven't heard anything good from anyone about the quality from this company.

Like you, I simply couldn't find anything with a look I liked half as well.

Much as it sucks to move on to something else after you've found the perfect faucet, it would be even worse to blow the budget on an item of questionable quality.

There's a single handled ashfield on ebay for less than 150, including shipping, but it isn't close to as cool as the bridge:

Lowe's carries PPf, but their website only lists the single handle ashfield for baths. Don't know if you can still find others in the store.

If you don't like your husband's choice, keep looking. Get something you can live with that will fit the same holes as the Ashfield, and start saving your pennies-- it would be like a latte a day for 3 months. But I personally wouldn't 'take a stand' on this issue, just because of the quality concerns.

It's very easy to change a faucet down the line-- that's what I kept telling myself when the plumbers were almost insistent that I stick with 'moen or better'...

Oh, as to being heartbroken over a faucet: I know just what you mean-- I've been heartbroken on average once a week since we started building in October of '06. But it isn't worth it, really: despite the stress, try and stay positive. Nothing is ever perfect, but at the end it will be fine, even if a few details aren't what you'd hoped.

I've done the Price Pfister(s) in bathrooms. They don't hold up very long. We did an Ikea faucet in the kitchen and so far so good. I'd pass on the substitute as well.

BTW, you can use a Tapmaster with a two lever faucet, essentially turning it ino a foot operated faucet that doesn't need to be touched by ANY gunky funky hands or elbows.

I do like your first choice but keep looking if the quality is questionable.

Have you looked at delta? We had good luck with an orb bathroom fixture from them. Also from HD.

Re: PF...we've had a brushed SS Price Pfister Parisa pullout in our kitchen for several years now...no problems at all...the pullout is fine, no leaks, finish still looks great!

As a matter of fact, we're keeping it w/the remodel until we replace it with a Kohler Vinnata® down the line when we've saved $$$ again for it & a few other things we've put off due to budget.

I don't like what I'm hearing about the quality - something else to research I guess since there seem to be mixed opinions.

I know what you mean about beng heart broken. It's sort of a joke b/c it really isn't worth it. We've had a really stress free experience building the house but somedays you have to smack yourself for not being thanksful for what you can have instead of whining about what you can't have.

I'm in a similar situation as you are. I am in the process of building a "New/Old" house. The overall feel will be primitive. I had originally picked out the Ashfield PP vessel faucet ORB for my 1/2 bath, and the Ashfield 8" widespread PP Rustic Pewter for the 2 full baths (along with the shower fixtures).

I only recently discovered the faucet that you are considering, which I love the look of.

The problem is that my plumber (a family member) does not like PP and will not install them for me. He does not like the quality. I may try to convince him to compromise with me and at least install the vessel faucet, as it is truly the only faucet that has the look of an old water pump. The 1/2 bath vanity is going to be a reproduction dry sink.

BTW- I currently have the PP Marielle single lever faucet in the Antique Copper. I've had it for three years and the finish is wearing off.

If you are DIY, tell your husband you get to spend more on supplies to make up for the savings in the labor charges that other people spend (usually works for my husband who gave up commenting a while ago). PP gets mixed reviews but we have them in our bathroom and two years later, no problems. When I finally get a kitchen sink one, we will get one... but I've been too lazy to care as we put in a cheap Ikea one that is kinda cute as I couldn't decide when the granite and sink were getting installed.

PP faucets feel cheap to me, but they do look good and cheap, so if this one is out of your price range, I doubt that you will find a similar looking one from another company for less.

Another note on PF quality. We are building a new home and have one PF bathroom faucet. Out of the blue, the plumber called DH yesterday and said, "Mike, are you sure this is the faucet you want for this bathroom? PF quality is poor and it does not compare with the quality of the other faucets you have selected . . . so why in the world did you select PF?" DH was pretty surprised as we had not heard any comments on PF quality so we will see what happens.

Coming in late here but I'd advise you to reconsider the Price-Pfister, particularly if it's the spray that you like. Don't get too attached to the spray nozzle in a P-P faucet because it won't last long.

We have the Marielle (I think that's actually your second photo) and have been through two spray nozzles in 15 months. It's out of warranty now so we just live w/o the spray. Will replace it with a better faucet when I get around to it...

I will say their customer service is very easy to deal with.

Try Ebay, there are thousands of faucets there. We just bought a PF ORB kitchen faucet there for $79 (HD price was $259)and it looks terrific. So far in the 2 months we've had it, it feels better than the German Hans Grohe it replaced. If it doesn't work out, I'll take 20 minutes and install something else.

Cleo suggested that you could buy the second faucet and replace it later. Well, when you have a faucet with a separate sprayer and replace it with the sprayer as an integral part of the faucet, you now have a hole to deal with. That doesn't work if the faucet is mounted on something like a granite top. If it's in a stainless sink, you now have to live with the nasty hole plug. So chose wisely.

Good point about the hole, the temp faucet would have to be the same as the future plan.

There's no comparison between the two. Splurge on the one you like. You will be looking at/using it constantly, which means you will also be cursing it constantly if you don't like it!
Go cheaper in the laundry room or another place that needs durability but not so much the 'wow' factor.
As far as the quality goes, I'm not sure with the brand of the one you like. Here's a Moen Waterhill suite kitchen faucet. I honestly don't know what the cost is; maybe too much!
