My heart is breaking

We had to put our beautiful Border Collie, Harley, to sleep yesterday morning. He was 15, and suffered a stroke Monday morning. Our family is so sad today - please remember us in your thoughts - our hearts ache so badly.

Here is a recent picture of him with his constant companion, our 3-year old Chi (Coco) - she is so forlorn and lost right now.

Just be there and listen between the lines. We have had two deaths in the last month at dd's school. Her first experience with loosing a friend happened when she was in the 6th grade. It really affected her. And just recently a close friend of her boyfriend was killed on a crochrocket. Head on into a car. She went to the funeral with alot of other kids. He had graduated last year.. He had told his parents if anything ever happened he wanted to be buried in his baseball uniform with all his buddies carring the casket. Alot of kids were there. it was dd's first funeral .. it totally tore her up to see his body lying there...and his mom was hysterical. She says life is short, you should always make time for your friends... and tell the people you love...that you do. She gave alot of her friends a hard time about not being there for each other... And no way should they try to make it though life without God. She is doing better itjust takes time.

Hopetheylive, sorry for your troubles. I'm emotionally invested in my plants as well. Yesterday I decided to leave one large beautiful almost dead ripe tomato on the vine for just one more day, since the birds had left them alone so far this year. This morning I checked on it and found a bird had "sampled" it. Grrrr.... We have lots of Cardinals here and when I see one of them near a tomato plant I know to go quickly looking for hornworms. Cardinals are mostly beneficial seems to me. Now if I see Mockingbirds hanging out around the tomatoes, I'm sure to find pecked fruit. Beverly, I'd love to know if the red Christmas ornament trick works. Maybe you can post later this year and let us know.

My heart feels for you so much, Cam! The joy and love our furkids bring to us is immeasurable and such a blessing. I know in my heart of hearts that they'll be there to greet us when we pass over ourselves someday. Until then, they'll be having lots of fun while they wait. Hold on to the knowledge that you gave your sweet darlin a wonderful life filled with happiness and love. All pets should be so blessed! Thank you all for your blessings. My little GS is doing much better. He even went with his Poppoo to the bookstore tonight and bought a Bible - "A Bible for Boys". I didn't even know they wrote one of those. His outbursts have subsided since he is on meds. But we were told his blood test came back with abnormalities and he had to have another one. He was so brave, he went right in and didn't complain - normally he would have a fit. It took four nurses to give him a flu shot just three weeks before this all started. I ask very little from God, just to keep my family safe and healthy. I have never asked for wealth or anything frivolous - just to take care of my family. My first thought when I got over the initial shock was that he wasn't dying so be grateful. There are others who have it much worse. Tourettes is a brain misfire which is suppose to be inherited (we have no one on either side of the family with this) and is diagnosed mostly in boys between the ages of 7 and 10. Normally it is just tics that most people don't even notice, blinking of the eyes, twitching of the nose, shrugging shoulders, etc. Then there are the vocal tics, repeating the same words or repeating what someone else has said, cursing, short ear piercing scream, barking, snorting, etc. When the vocal tics start most children are so shocked they get scared and don't know what to do. My GS didn't want even the garage door to be open because he was afraid someone would hear him. This was a funny outgoing little guy who loved being outside with the others playing. He is a practical joker also. But for the past few weeks he would run from the car to the house with his jacket over his mouth. When they went to pick up his twin brother from school, he got down in the floor board of the car so no one could hear him if he screamed. So today for him to go to the store was amazing. Then he came home and taped the handle of the water sprayer at the kitchen sink so when Poppoo went to wash his hands he was sprayed - he laughed so hard when we heard Poppoo holler and then came around to the family room with his shirt soaked. It was good to see him laugh again. With all the mean hurtful people in this world, children should not have to carry any kind of burden. These twins are a miracle for my daughter. She tried to get pregnant and because of endometriosis, she couldn't. So they tried Invitro Fertilization. Now being the type of people we are - very controlling - she read everything she could about Invitro. She found the doctors at Stanford were letting the eggs fertilize for five days vice three days and had better success at implanting. So she went to her doctor and asked that he try this technique on her. She was the first patient of his to have this done. And it worked!! We all cried when we found out she was pregnant on the first try. Then when the ultrasound showed that only one of the two eggs implanted took we were still thrilled. Then the next ultrasound showed that one egg split and we had identical twins - well this had never happened to this particular doctor before. I am not sure who was more excited - him or us. She has since tried with the remaining eggs but it just wasn't meant to be. She is totally happy with these boys and is a great mother. Punk, I can't even imagine what you went through with the loss of a son. You must have a tremendous amount of faith and I admire you for it. Again, thank you all for being there. I am so sorry. I know how much that hurts. When we put our 15-year-old Yorkie to sleep in 2010, it broke our hearts. They become our children. Hugs to you and your family!

And mine is breaking for you.....we pet lovers know the pain you're going through. It's so hard. When you get through that grieving period, you'll remember all the years of joy and know it's worth the pain, but right not, not so easy to do. ((((((kayjones)))))

He was a handsome fella. I'm sure you have a lot of great memories. Hope they'll console you some during your grieving. The little one will need you more now too. They become friends and they know when a "roomie" has left. Animals grieve too. Sad to lose them them. They give us so much. My best to you and yours Kay.

oh I know your pain all too well. I am so sorry for your loss and my deepest sympathy for your family and Coco. I know she is grieving too, they definitely do.

I'm very sorry for your loss Kay. We lost our sweet dog of 16 years on Jan. 13 of this year. It was so heartbreaking, I understand your pain,

The only thing that has helped us with the pain is time.

Jemdandy, you are so right about Harley being a family member. He spent most of his waking hours looking after the rest of us, going from room to room, checking on us. He was a sweetheart and we will mourn his passing for years to come.

I appreciate your comforting words - thanks to ALL of you - it helps so much. Today, I am cleaning house and washing rugs, so keeping busy, which helps. Thanks again!

kayjones my deepest sympathy. We had to put our beloved Buddy down in February. It took me three weeks before I could move any of his things and put them away.

Your Harley looks so sweet. They truly add a special something to our lives.

All of you have been so kind - thank you from our family. My heart breaks for each of you that have lost a fur baby. Harley was such a part of all of us.

When Gary was dying of pancreatic cancer, Harley would not leave his side - I had to drag him outdoors to take care of his business. He didn't eat for a week - just laid by our bedroom door and kept guard.

Harley arrived in our lives on Christmas day, 1998, weighing 6 pounds - he grew to 75 pounds at one point, but as he aged, he dropped to 56 pounds. He was a big ball of fur and love!
