water won't stop running after cycle is done!

I've been happily using my little Danby washer for several years now. However, the last two loads I've done, the water kept on running after the cycle was complete. I could hear the water running through the laundry tub drain.

What could the problem be? This is the first problem of any kind I've had with the Danby. The washer itself is not full of water, even though the clothes are still too wet and needed to be re-spun. But the tub does not have water standing in it. The cycle dial is on off, so the cycle is complete, and pushing the lighted on/off button does not stop the water. I had to turn off the shut off valve to the washer to get it to stop running.

Any ideas?

Could be the solenoid valve, this valve controls the water flow to the washer. I don't know anything about Danby's, but it seems that most washers would have the same general parts. I just replaced the solenoid valve on my furnace mounted humidfier, it cost $159.00 for the part. Might be cheaper for a washer. Good Luck

Here's some information from Repair Clinic. Maybe this will get you started. They don't carry parts for your machine, though. Too bad.

When this happened to me, with my last washer, it flooded the laundry room, kitchen and started on the basement! Turned out to be too much sediment in the water, which was leaving debris on the switch, and it wouldn't close.

The same machine components (water valve, pump motor, etc.) are used for each sequence of fill/spray/drain throughout the complete was/rinse/dry cycle. The timer controls them. A look-up of your model indicates it has a mechanical timer. It's possible the timer cams are worn for the later cycle sequences causing the timer contact for the water valve to not engage, but the first wash/prewash period is OK. Unfortunately, two online parts sites I use shows the timer as no longer available (how old is your dishwasher?). In some cases it's possible to disassemble the timer and bend the contact slightly to make it work again.

The attic insulation will make a huge difference. Depending on how the house was built, I've seen many cases where only 6 inches of insulation allowed warmer air to circulate (chimney effect) between the wall studs, especially in single story homes. This would include behind the thermostat. The additional insulation will surely help to minimize that. You didn't mention whether the temperature in the home was comfortable or not. Sometimes the placement of the thermostat can make a difference. Is the thermostat in a hall way or is it in an open area such as the living room? If in the hall way, do you keep the doors to the rooms closed in that hallway (return air concerns). Do you have return ducts in all the rooms or, is there one return for the whole house? If it's in the hall way, is there a pull down stair way nearby? How high on the wall would you say the thermostat is?Does the unit eventually shut off around 10 or 11 pm and then cycle normally during the night? I think the insulation may greatly solve your problem but, I'm asking these questions just in case you continue to have issues after the work is done, it'll give me and some of the other guys in field here on the forum, some idea where to point you. There's no way I can judge whether the unit is sized properly for your home without personally doing a heat load calculation and an air balance along with the layout of the home. However, I'm thinking a 3 ton unit could also be marginal. The 2.5 you had, for the square footage you quoted, was undersized. Let's see where the insulation goes.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get it serviced. Bosch-Siemens still has parts availbable. This is not radically different washer that your average tech can't fix. Look up an appliance repair place that services Bosch on yelp or yellowpages.com and give them call. Or call Bosch appliances and ask them for an authorized repair center.

The AUTO setting for Max Days/Recharge lets the water use (on demand) trigger regenerations but it will not put regenerations off indefinitely if no water is used. I suspect it overrides at 15 days and tries to regenerate. If you shut off the water and it tries to regenerate you might have problems. The control valve on that softener has the provision to set the maximum number of days that it will go and then force a regeneration if water use doesn't trigger one first. Unfortunately the limit is 15 days on your ECO. Other softeners have a wider range, Fleck 7000SXT goes up to 99 days, and that would do what you want but your ECO won't. If you're going to be gone longer than 15 days then the only thing you can do is shut off the water and pull the plug on the softener. With no power the softener won't regenerate. The down side to pulling the plug is that the control valve may lose all it's settings. So, here are your options... 1. leave the water on and set the Max Days/Recharge setting to # of days days. When you return change the setting back to AUTO. Even if you're gone longer than 15 days you'll cut the regenerations to a minimum. 2. shut the water off and pull the plug on the softener AFTER noting every setting so you can re-program the softener if it loses the settings. 3. buy a softener that allows you more flexibility in programming to do what you want

Agree likely solenoid. Doesn't take much to interfere with the seal. Annoying but common and not difficult to fix.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. DH pulled a valve off - I think it's the part you guys are talking about - and will go to the appliance parts store tomorrow to see if they have or can order a replacement.

A funny thing, though: yesterday a friend of ours called and said he is replacing his almost brand new front loader and dryer. They're compact size and his fiance wants a full size top loader. Which means his is for sale. So it looks like we'll get a new washer/dryer, then try to fix the old washer and sell the pair. If we can't fix it, we'll sell it as needs repair. Won't get much for it, but it's no good to us as is.

The new ones are Ariston, which has mixed reviews on this board. They aren't the combo unit, it's a separate washer and dryer. It's the AW122 washer. He's asking $500 for the pair, with pedestals (we'll try for $400.)
