I am looking for a scale also. I was surprised to learn that scales now are electric, or digital, therefore requiring batteries. Also they are much bigger than they used to be. Can you tell I haven't bought one in many years?

In fact I am going out this afternoon to return one that I bought a few days ago. I actually don't have any place to put it in my house!

The way my bathroom is arranged there is no floor space that would be practical. I certainly don't want it in the kitchen, although that might be a good reminder.

The rest of the house is carpeted; not good for getting an exact weight.

I'm hoping to find an old one, maybe at BigLots or one of the thrift shops.

I purchased a new scale about a year ago and really like it. I got it at Target and it is a Taylor Model 7405. It has large digital numbers that are very easy to read and the color is a matte finish kind of grayish silver. Being technically challenged I don't know how to link, but you can google Taylor 7405 and it comes up with reviews. HTH

I'm usually not one to want a bunch of battery powered stuff, if there is a good alternative, but like a digital battery scale with a read-out, so long as it is consistently accurate, which mine has never been.

So if you find a smaller one, will it 'fit' in the bath, or are you just opposed to it requiring a battery? The battery life in mine has always been a long time.

I just let my fingers do the walking and ordered the one I linked above.

I feel your pain. Bathroom scales are an ongoing issues for just about everyone who cares about such things.

I love mine, in fact I have bought two of them, one for me and one for my Mom. It is the older style made by Brookstone. No batteries, no switches, just a large dial that is easy for me to see and read. It is so sensitive that if you stand still, you can see your heart beat. I have had it for at least 15 years.

I keep it in the bathroom so it is on a flat, firm surface. I have also used it on carpet but not sure what Brookstone would say about that. Any scale will take up floor space, need to be adjusted once in a while and may not last forever, but since I got this one I do not question what it tells me. I might not like what I see, but I never blame that on the scale.

Before I got this one, I was very, very tempted by the new digitals that were available. I even liked the ones that talk to you. I think some of them must be really, really great but not for me. I wanted something good that I did not have to worry about. It's there all the time and ready to use, no need to worry about batteries.

One of our guests at the condo left a Taylor battery-powered digital scale behind. (They probably wanted to weigh their luggage.) I've seen them in stores for very little. This one is VERY thin and lightweight. It can be hung on a wall. It's accurate, judging from weighing myself and DH.

Our 30+ year old scale at home is big and heavy, with a dial. It's always been three pounds light, but since we know that...we adjust. It comes out every so often when DGS is visiting, to add his weight to his height mark on our closet door.

Neither DH nor I weigh ourselves often -- only if our clothes feel too tight or too loose, or if we're checking our Westie's poundage.

tanita, it is a great brand it was the one my doctor recommended to me, it also does the body mass info. I have had mine for several years and it works perfectly and is spot on with his in his office.

Mine is a "Thinner" model, which in my case is a bit of a misnomer. It consistently makes me three pounds lighter than my doctors scale with the moveable weights.

The weight watchers scale is what I use and am very pleased with it...Bed Bath and Beyond sells it too.

So I went into town and returned the scale. That is all I did.

It was a bright sunny day, temp 40ð, and a bitter wind blowing like crazy. Instead of running around from store to store, which I often do, I came home and took a nap. I don't need a scale that badly right now!

I've checked all of the above links. The size is my problem; most are 12"x12", some bigger. Sue, I don't object to the batteries, just wasn't aware that that is the norm now. Chisue, is there a model number on the one you have? That one might work for me.

Weight watcher scale is great.Big numbers and nice and thin,

I have the same one as Lizbeth-gardner. It's slim,easy to keep clean and accurate. I bought it when I was looking for a scale that didn't have all the bells and whistles. They don't work for me as my BMI has to be higher since I carry a lot of muscle even when I'm overweight. I know this because of WW. If I ever reached their goal weight for me I would be ill. Most people my weight wear jeans several sizes larger than I do.

My scale showed up today. I just did the free shipping. Will have to see how my weight compares to the old scale.

Well how us yours so far? Seem 'perfect'?

Mine just arrived today and on 'on the fence' about it.

I read about how to calibrate it, but if I move it, it will sometimes weigh me differently by 2/10 LB. I have 12" X 12" tiled floors, and can set it so it is all on one tile. I set it on a tile, and calibrate it, and it will consistently weigh me the same. I then pick it up and move it to another tile, calibrate it, and it might consistently weigh me as it had on the previous tile, or it might consistently weigh me 2/10 LB different. I don't know if it might be metal (nails in the floor) or something that might be causing that little amount of difference.

I think I'll call the 800 number and ask. Did you notice the paperwork enclosed asking to give a review on their product there at Amazon? I want to be pleased so I can give them a good review, since I don't think you can really retract a review once it is submitted.

So far, so good on the scale. It weighs me and dh 3 lbs less than the old scale. We put some known weights on it to test it. The new scale appears to be accurate. I like that it reads to the tenths place. I've been weighing myself morning and night. My weight fluctuates in a consistant pattern. I really like that I can read the numbes without bending down.

We've moved the scale around a bit. No problems when we recalibrate.

Well mine weighs me 2-3 pounds heavier than my old scale. I too like that it reads tenths.

Well I talked to a nice guy at the company, and he explained that different surfaces can make it weigh just a tad differently, like if the floor was not as even in one place as in another, or even it there was some dirt onder one foot of it. He said it is just best to put it in a place where it doesn't need to be moved. I also understood him to say that things under the surfaces of the floor, like nails, 'could' cause it to differ a bit. I'll still be moving mine, since it will be parked next to the wall, but I'll just take care to always place it on the same tile each time before calibrating.

I also like how easy it is to turn on. I'm going to give it 5 stars.

At my house the bathroom scale is no problem, what I have a problem with is the height/weight chart that I copied at my doctors office.......I think they need to update that chart,,,according to the chart I am supposed to be 7 foot 5 inches.

I got one from Penny's several years ago that works for us. Its a digital; runs on a 9 volt battery; one battery lasts for a year or more. The scale is about 15 inches square and 2 inches high. You tap it with your toe to turn it on; the display will cycle a few times while it waits for the vibrations to die away and zeros itself. When the display glows steady, step on and stand still. When it thinks everything has settled, your weight is diaplayed. Read it and step off. It'll turn off in about 3 seconds after stepping off.

It seems to be accurate within 1 lb at 230 lbs. No tenths of a pound. Displays only to the nearest Lb.

It has worked well for 10 years. It is a bit quick in automatically shutting off. You have about 3 to 5 seconds to step on the scale after the dispaly becomes steady. Go beyond this limit and it auto-shuts down.

HINT: Weigh yourself soon after you get up and after you have used the toilet and before you slake your thirst. Weigh with no clothes. A good time is just before you step into the shower.

This will be your minimum weight for the day unless you engage in extreme hard labor. Your weight can change by a couple of pounds during the day. Differenct in clothing weight can mask a trend. I have found this produces the most consistent measurement and that is important if you are graphing your weight on a daily basis.
