I have a digital bathroom scale (retail $80) but it doesn't register pets correctly. I would look for a baby scale for that. Vets use a similar device, could be a baby scale.

That's what I do. It doesn't work for some reason. The results can vary widely or make no sense. When weighing pets, ounces are important which is why I mention it.

Our vet has a scale the animals stand on (cats &/or dogs) and she has told us we can bring them in any time we want to weigh them ourselves, and if we woud like them to write the weight on the pet's record, they would also do that. No cost to us, zip, nada :)

Go to Amazon and look at bathroom scales - they have many under $40 - look at the reviews and see if one seems to work for you or go to Target and look at what they have in the store. They also have several under $40 on their web site.

I got a great one at costco for $20! clear glass very nice. but for animals they usually use a baby scale it's easier to get them in and to stay put. I see those on craigslist and places like that often for just a few bucks.

No help here.....we got a scale for a wedding present which is 57 years ago. Still using the same scale. It doesn't look too pretty, but I keep it because it's pretty darn accurate.

My really good expensive one that did all kinds of neat stuff unfortunately could not swim and drowned in the flood.

Often the first weighing after the scale has been moved is incorrect. After moving the scale, weigh twice and use the second weight.

My scale is always "off" so I take Kirby to Petsmart to get weighed. They are associated with Banfield Vet Services and this is a free service for any pet. It's large enough to accommodate Chihuahua to Great Dane size range.

It's important to weigh on the same scale to account for fluctuations.

My scales from Costco are weight watcher's by conair.

$20 and they are very accurate with the doctors office. Clear glass, it scares me to stand on them but they are very sturdy. Excellent price.

I went looking for Raven's recommendation on Amazon, and found a similar one. I also saw this scale. It costs $22.95 and has over 23,000 reviews--I don't think I've seen that many reviews for anything on Amazon.

Like Justlinda said my vet welcomes clients dropping in for weigh ins. In fact office staff ask me the results so they can immediately update the animal's health record.

His weight is updated on his records every time he goes in, but since we have 3 cats, I'm not going to put them in carriers just to get weighed.

I'll keep looking for an appropriate scale.

Try Sally Anne or Value Village whatever you have in the area. They are very reasonable. You might be able to "rig" up a basket on the scales, either glue it on or velcro it. Don't forget to allow for the extra weight by weighing it first before the cat. Place a treat in it for the cat and as they like boxes etc they may just comply. That being said you could probably place it up higher on a small table and therefor be able to get an accurate reading without straining to see the numbers. For under five dollars it would be worth trying.

Why not try Freecycle? I'm sure someone is tired of seeing their weight and would love to get rid of that insulting thing that sits on the floor!

I got my scale at Bed, Bath and Beyond -- I found that the digital scale quickly got wildly inaccurate -- in my favor, but that's not what I wanted. So I tossed it and am happy with my old fashioned analog scale. Both scales were less than $40.

I'm not really convinced that a human scale is very accurate for the nuances of cat weight. I've done the same -- picked up the cat, weighed both of us, then myself alone, subtracted the difference. Oddly erratic differences when you get down to the partial pounds, and for a potentially 8-11 pound animal, this matters.

We have the weight watchers digital scale - bought it at Big Lots for $15. Works perfectly, and has - for five years! We've only had to replace the battery once.

I got one at bed bath and beyond with 20% off coupon. (They have been taking expired coupons.) It may have been around $60. It looks really nice and measures to .2 pound. It has to be on a hard surface.

Jasdip - our vet now has a weigh scale in the waiting room. Personally I think it works better for her than having to weigh herself first and then the pet (in terms of new seeing her weight!).

The important thing is that the pet not move - of course our dog does and the more he moves the higher the weight registers and his breed of dog gains weight easily. We have a serious hoover on our hands.

The vets do have a baby scale for the really small dogs.

Eccentric have you seen this vet and his appalling treatment of his patients??? And he only got a 10-month suspension!

When Smudge enjoys going to the vet and he lets them poke and prod and take his blood with nary a flinch, I know they are good people. They adore him.

They have a dog scale in the waiting room, but the small baby scale is in the treatment rooms.

That's unbelievably bizarre! I would imagine the techs were the ones to get him on video but how could they not try to stop him from abusing those animals is also strange.

I hope he gets the 5 years max and then loses his license to practice, as should be the consequences. He is too obtuse to ever be working with animals again.

He must be afraid of animals. That's the type of things fearful people do to try to dominate and control them.

So far he's reported to get 10 months of not being allowed to practice, and that will be reduced by 4-6 months if he takes a 2 1/2 day retraining course! Un-frigging-believable.

What concerns me is the length of time he was abusing his patients and none of his staff came forward until now. The husky puppy in the video was on camera tonite with his owners, and he's full grown. They had no idea he was hit in the muzzle with clippers, and he was only going in to get his nails clipped.
