Change of plans...what would you use in a bathroom?
Comments (54)The faucet is 3 holes. A standard placement. Mine is from HD, but same as Lowes and is brushed stainless. Sink must be deep as I have no problem washing hands or anything else. The sink is a square pedestal. Am not terribly fond of the sink, no place to hang a wet washcloth and feel the space underneath is wasted. I've considered building a cupboard for this, just a surround with the sink as the top. The bath is so small that I know this would make things feel cramped. Hmm, just thought, a curtain around it would give me some storage. I'm fairly simple in decorating, so a curtain needs some thinking. Still have the wet washcloth problem though. Love the sound of the water flowing from the faucet, even seeing it...silly things we attach ourselves to....See MoreHow can I put a bathtub in a narrow bathroom?
Comments (6)I just remodeled my 65X76 inch 1/2 bath into a full bathroom and every square inch was utilized. I'm sure others here will have better ideas, but you could follow a galley layout, with a 60X28" narrow bath with small, 24"-width shallow vanity (I went with this one, that still offers storage and a traditional look, with a super shallow depth of 11.5 inches for the console and under 19" for the sink basin). Then, put in a pocket door to a separate water closet for just your toilet. You'd still have almost 50" of space to work with in the WC. Here is another option, of a 'galley' style layout you could model. You will have less width in the 'walkway' but I think it's doable. Not sure about code, you'd have to check with your contractor....See MoreLong, Narrow Bathroom
Comments (22)You'll need to decide if those three minutes of teeth-brushing at night are worth giving up an extra set of drawers and counter space with a double sink vanity. I am doing the opposite--switching from a 60" vanity to a single sink. Your current vanity has only two drawers. A new vanity of the same size would have all drawers. You want to be sure that you maximize your drawers in whatever style and size you choose. Don't waste vanity space on extra trim and large sink bases like in the vanities in your Ideabook. In the vanity you posted here, the drawers do not go all the way to the counter. You want a top drawer so you're not bending down to reach your toothpaste. The style is fine but the wood color is very red and that is a limiting color. Your house was probably built in the 50s or 60s. You need to keep the remodel in line with the bones of the house. You can't do ornate Mediterranean or ultra contemporary. Your vanity is not viewed straight on so a lot of those flourishes go to waste. My home is similar but built in 1999 with oak cabinetry and 4" white square tile countertops. All the molding and doors are traditional so I try to make traditional choices; however, it's a modest home, so I think of my style as casual traditional, not rigid traditional. Two rooms down and one to go, the master bath. I would have the linen closet rebuilt to match the vanity. If you have a Home Depot or Lowe's available, go see what they can do in their semi-custom cabinet lines. I bought a Kraftmaid vanity from HD for my guest bath and was able to pick out type of wood, stain, drawer configuration, door style, and side trim and valance style. How wide is the linen closet?...See MoreHow would you configure this bathroom?
Comments (31)I'm just a homeowner, not a pro. If you are still wanting help on the general layout I have a couple of ideas, but I'd like to know: - I'm assuming the walls are not going to move, right? - do you want/need the make-up area or could that be in a bedroom? - are you okay with having a tub/shower combo like you do now, or do you want to have a tub and stand-alone shower? - If the tub ends up in a different area, is there access and the ability to do the plumbing you would need for the water and drain? - do you want everything to be built-in or do you want the unfitted-ness of seperate pieces, like an antique armoire as a linen cabinet, etc? - please tell me about the hobbit window. Does it actually provide good natural light? Since you have another large window in the bathroom, would you be willing to / and are you allowed to get rid of this window? And if so, would you be able to do the required stone work on the exterior? - are you planning to change the flooring? - does the bathroom currently have a vent fan or do you open the window for ventilation? I'm drawing some things now, but wanted to ask you these questions first....See MoreUser
