Great wall hanging, Fly! Here's some pictures of my hand made curtains. All three curtains sport a different pattern but they are similar enough to have them on my three living room windows. They were so long, I had to make a valance at the top. I paid $50. each for them. Worth every penny!

Cool, golddust -- I can just imagine how you felt when you found them. Such good energy someone put into them. Nice work on the valances, too. It's nice that you found them; not everyone can use those. You must have nice privacy on your property.

I love visiting thrift stores and garage sales. Here is an oil painting that I bought last weekend.

I guess I am a little obsessed with oil landscapes. I have 17 that need to be hung! Seeing this next picture makes me appreciate my DH's patience!

I like when I find something from my past. I found a near new hairdryer just like the first one I got when I was about 13.

I get lots of Tupperware for $1-2. I would never pay full price but love the stuff. Getting a pie saver or cupcake holder is really exciting. You just have to really look and I only buy if it looks really new.

While on vacation this summer I picked up a backgammon set for $8. It is like a little briefcase, covered in suede and leather. It was nice and small for our camping trips.

The other day I picked up the $20,000 pyramid game for $1 at Hospice Thrift. That had to be an original because $20,000 was probably one of the first amount the show had.

I think you two ARE sisters! Nice paintings! These days, I have a golden rule. If I find something at a thrift store and can't make the time to immediately make it work in my house, I walk away. What willpower that takes. LOL!

Yes, Fly. My living room is the darkest room in my house, thanks to a front porch and a 150' shade tree in my front yard. Privacy is not an issue as our landscaping is really old (I have Lilac trees) and fencing does the rest. We're on a couple acres and no one can see inside our property.

The curtains were perfect for me. I don't always like lace. It has to be 'Arts & Crafts' era patterns. I'm not a foo-foo lace type person. I like simple net laces, etc.

I can understand that rule -- I'm getting a lot pickier than I used to be. I'm even re-donating some pieces of pottery now that I'm getting to a higher place in my collecting...but if you can believe it, since I've found so many valuable/very interesting things on instinct, my DH now that if I have an instinct about something I should get it even if I don't know where I'll put it. He's an enabler! But sometimes I have realized that something is rather valuable *well after* I've brought it home.

I was actually thinking of that fondue pan, golddust -- tonight would be a great night for fondue up here in OR -- it's cold and autumnal...I could even cut up some apples to put in it, yes? :)

And what a beautiful property it sounds like you have! What species is the tree?

My entire house is filled with used stuff. LOL! All my rugs are either inherited or found cheap.

There is a picture in the album I've linked to below. It's the one with me kneeing down with my curtains in the background. That rug cost me $100. It was made by the Whittle Company and a rug just like mine lives at the The Smithsonian Institute - as an example of the industrial age. My rug was made by the first company to ever mass produce area rugs. It's 'Bird of Paradise' print. My dining room rug is made by the same company and was $150. Karastan copied this print which became one of their most popular prints ever. Both rugs are wool.

Course, my Stickley table was another great score. It's the round one in front of the window, near my lace curtains.

Yep, I am a huge fan of recycling. LOL!

If you look around in my house photos, there are yard sale and thrift store finds in almost every single picture. Pictures, vases, rugs, furniture, signs, dishes.

Maybe we should take pictures of our rooms and make each other guess what the 'finds' are in the picture and then discuss if they are as great as we think they are...

WOW WOW WOW about the rug, golddust. It's just stunning. I LOVE that! I'm really impressed that you can have it down when you have a pet in the house. With that quilt, there is *no way* I'm going to store it 'on a bed', as the appraiser said would be the best place. I just know the cats would ruin it. I'm going to have to make a sleeve (or maybe cop out and have my favorite seamstress here do it) and hang it on the one wall in the house that's not in the sun that's big enough to hold it.

I should take a photograph of a part of a room...pretty much all our decor comes from thrifts, including the danish modern items...

Here are two of my latest finds- the pot from Mexico and the Navajo vase.
The Mexican pot matches a large pot I have that my parents bought in Nogales when I was a little kid so I think this is from the early 60s and made for touristas.The vase is most likely new - it is signed but was is not a fine piece by any means probably bought at a trendy small store for too much $ or at a booth at 4 Corners.

Nice cooperbailey :) I do like those handmade/painted Mexican terracotta bowls and such -- some of them have really nice designs painted on them, but for some reason they're not held in high esteem value-wise. They can look great, though, and show awareness of other design elsewhere in the world.

Cooper, nice bowl and vase. I've never found anything close to that around here.

I think items like these arent sought after here in the east. I have gotten a couple of fairly good pieces at yard sales for a buck.
I thought it would be different for fall. And then if they dont fit in anywhere- I will take them back to GW.
