Washer/dryer combo in Master Suite Closet-Any advice?

All my dreams have come true w/ the W/D all-in-one----I'm a bit nervous as I consider this for our master closet.

I am also looking at the front load stack-able unit too. Are there any specific models/requirements for when they are placed in a closet on an inside wall?

Anyone have and recommendations?

Read all you can on the different searches on the laundry forum. Frequent sets that come up that people are very happy with are Speed Queen and Miele. There may be others. Speed Queen is heavy and well made. Old school so not a lot of bells and whistles, but people love that too. Miele is very well built and heavy. They are not the mega machines that are out there. I have a set and am hoping that I get years of service out of them. Both SQ and Miele are supposed to be long lived.

Don't get an LG top loading HE unit. I don't know if they still make them. Some of these units have fallen apart while in the spin cycle. Then they made a recall and changed the program on the spin cycle. That was apparently all they did to this defective machine. Now they spin very slow and people have been very unhappy. LG also recommended not to put in some articles of clothing such as rain wear.

The only issues with Miele that I am aware of is price, and that the size might not accommodate all bedding sizes. I have a queen bed and am fine with the sheets and pillow covers. A queen comforter should fit but I haven't tried that yet. I am not sure if it will take a King comforter. Do a search on that topic in the forum and you may come up with some helpful information.

Something else to consider that is important. Miele, and I am sure others do as well, recommends that front loaders be placed next to a load bearing wall. And in a corner if I remember correctly. This is so you don't have the very high speeds of the machine effecting the joists. You don't want them setting in the middle of the joist system because it will bounce more, like a trampoline. If it goes on cement then perfect. So in your search for machines see the installation instructions they have, to determine placement recommendations.

I've enjoyed owning them. Have had combinations for over 25 years. Not all from LG. They are getting progressively better and the LG I'm using now doesn't even use a vent. It condenses the water and sends it out the same hose as dirty wash water. You may find yourself using this machine for all your washing needs. I find they work best with hard water and calgon with the detergent (prevents calcium build-up and softens water.) Never had a problem with stinky wash, not with my first machine of 18 yrs (Eudora). And not with the two FL I currently use (7 & 1 years). The prices are very high in the states, why is that? The last two, I've operated -- provided in hotels in Dubai and in S. Korea are amazing! I just wish I could read the one here in Korea, I cannot read Korean, but my husband's very dirty work socks come out like new and the clothes are very clean! The loads do take longer than top loaders but are efficient, much quieter, and come out of the machine ready for the drawer or suitcase. No steamy room or mildew around the machine. I am looking for an instruction book for my LG Tromm DD inverter 6.5kg WD 951 RD (reduced detergent?) machine. Then I can throw in my delicates. Right now I remove most clothes before the drying cycle and shake them out and hang them to dry. Don't need an iron. I have figured out only one setting...would be nice to have instructions. Been reading a lot lately about stinky wash and really, can't understand it. Also read that a product can be ordered at Stinkywash.com that solves the problem, if that is help to anyone. I would recommend this type washer/dryer. These types of washers normally use 1/2 capacity when drying. Mine is 6.5 wash, 3kg dry. But like I said, I hang up some of the load anyway and it is almost dry even before the dry cycle starts. I like that. My husband has been able to get by the whole summer with just 3 shirts and two pair of jeans! What you invest in the machine, you save in buying clothes! Those are my thoughts.

I vote for #3 first. If you are a bath taker, then having a bath in the master would be lovely. You could also do a deck mount shower setup with a hose and shower head on it (I forget what that is called). We just renovated our master bedroom and bath and removed the shower from the master bathroom altogether. We have 2 other full baths in the house. 1 is the family bathroom near the all bedrooms and the other is in the bsmt. When we moved in, the ugly master bath floor had a crack in it, so we assumed there was a leak in the shower. We knew we'd be reno-ing so it was no big deal. We just used the shower as a closet, and did not turn the spigots once in 4+ years. Our new master bath was to have a luxury steam shower unit because we could not fit in a tub (dh extremely disappointed in that). After playing around with the plan more, we realized we'd rather have more closet and floor space and could skip the shower. Dh gets up early and showers in the family bathroom. If we had one in our master, it might wake me up. We felt that with 4 people, there was little chance we'd need to have 3 showers running at the same time. Even if we wanted, I am not sure the hot water would hold up to 3 simultaneous showers! We sold the shower unit on CL and really like the new layout of our bedroom. Our closet is fabulous and our furniture fits in perfectly. As a real estate agent, I know a 3rd full bath would add value on an appraisal, but I bet lots of buyers would someday love our spacious organized closet and we designed the bathroom so that someone can add a shower without doing much more than moving the doorway and wall. The toilet and sink could even stay in the same place and remain untouched. Besides, we have no plans on moving anytime soon. BTW - our family bathroom has a jetted tub that dh & I use every single day. One ds prefers showers, but the younger one can spend over an hour in the tub. We had to do without when reno started for a few weeks, and were miserable only using the shower downstairs. I'd never buy a house that either did not or could not have a tub.

Then maybe shift the W/D to next to the window which gives the toilet more room to face the way it was. Put the shower next to the door with a narrow linen closet separating it from the W/D. Maybe add a stackable small laundry closet there and still have a very large closet. In both of these cases, it seems like the w/d would cover up a window, which I was hoping to avoid. It's a row home with other taller buildings around it, so I like to keep as much light as possible. Do you think it's worth covering up the window anyway? It is more inconvient, disruptive and expensive to change your toilet location in reality. I didn't actually move the toilet flange location, I just rotated the toilet and changed it to a 14 inch rough-in instead of the 10 inch version I currently have. (Specifically looking at the Kohler Wellworth Classic Five.) My cursory googling seemed to indicate this was ok. Is that a bad idea? If you had a spacious well layout bath you might find your closet is no longer your favorite room, I sure did. The shoes and bags live in the closet, so I don't think that's ever going to change! Haha! :)

Add a washer & ventless dryer to 2nd floor closet?

I am currently remodeling and getting the Bosch 800 washer and ventless dryer based on reviews and recommendations from my very savvy neighbor. I have no idea where the information is coming from regarding six hour cycles but based on the user manual, that is not true of the Bosch and the washer and dryer hold quite a bit - again look at the specifications regarding how many towels can be done in a load. I would think the convenience of doing laundry where it is created and then unloading it where it is returning make it a highly desirable addition - so what If you have to do an extra load or two in the course of a week :-) There is not significant vibration with a Bosch - Bosch is known for exceptionally quiet appliances. The reason I am going with the Bosch is twofold - first the dryer hooks into the washer so installation is simple. Second, they have an amazing water alarm season which is critical for a washer located where a flood would cause a lot of damage. The Bosch 800 has two flood safeguards - the hose is double lined and there is also an integrated water alarm system and pan - if the alarm senses water, the machine stops and no more water goes into the machine and the pan holds any water that has leaked through. If there is anyway of finding space for the 24" stackable units, I would certainly do so.

Hi again, I read Mongoct's response on the bathroom forum. He helped me too when I was looking to put in a W/D into the living space. Here is another picture of my setup that I should have included, thinking about what Mongo posted.

Modified inside middle cabinet in my laundry surround:

The outlet on the right is now installed and ready for my iron, and the plugin auto on/off LED light bar that I installed inside the top of this section. It will help in illuminating my laundry soaps. Also, when needing to clean the vent or shutting off the water I will be able to see clearly. There are clips that hold the vertical panel in place now, which where not when this picture was taken:
