can ask a general question.

I want to know if doctors routinely ask you to stop taking your blood pressure meds and not drink water before a stress test. Seems kind of strange to me, and my husband's cardiologist doesn't do this. But that's what the cardiologist I saw asked me to do. I can see not eating--they wouldn't want you to upchuck on their equipment, and who wants to run on a full stomach. But no water?

I can ask my GP, but if this is standard, I don't want to bother him.

Anyone here who knows either a good forum or the answer to my question, thanks in advance.

Preparing for the Regular Stress Test:
The following recommendations are "generic" for all types of cardiac stress tests:

Do not eat or drink for three hours prior to the procedure. This reduces the likelihood of nausea that may accompany strenuous exercise after a heavy meal. Diabetics, particularly those who use insulin, will need special instructions from the physician's office.
Specific heart medicines may need to be stopped one or two days prior to the test. Such instructions are generally provided when the test is scheduled.

When I had my last stress test,in 2002, they told me no food or water after midnight, but take any medications as usual, on time, with a few sips of water. No other special instructions.

Personally I think too many sub forums are confusing and there is always a tendency to not see the sub forums or consider them 'slower' and post to the general forum anyway. There is a tomato, pepper and herb forum, but questions on the veggie forum still come in on these crops. On the tomato forum there is a sub forum for tomato diseases, but disease questions still get asked on the tomato forum. I think 'specialty' forums are great, to a point, but after that point it becomes confusing and not really that helpful. While there are times of the year that certain forums really get hopping, there are usually other times of the year when one can hear an echo in them ;-)

Thanks for the replies. Paul, the ironic thing is that I was on Safari when I read your post and I couldn't click on your link. When I try to log in on Safari, I get a grey screen and nothing else. I had to get on Firefox to reply to this thread. I have a retina display screen on the MacBook, and Firefox looks horrible on it. Safari is (obviously) the optimized browser for this computer, although I have used Chrome too. I don't know how much I am willing to participate; it's a pain in the keester to have to switch browsers just to view links and post replies.

these days with all the infected websites don't ever just click on a link if you do not know any thing about it. there have been some instances in other forums where trolls have been going in and posting a link to some supposed wonderful site or something and in fact the site is one that has an infected i-frame which then installs that dreadful antivirus xp 2008 etc on their pc. So be very wary when something like this happens. I am running linux so I can check them out, if you are on windows just ignore them. We recently saw an infected i-frame on a big bank site and on a mop site, the owners of course had no idea they had some nasty embedded on their webpage till they were informed of the infections their visitors were getting. A good reason on to be sure you do all your updates on all your programs including all the recent Adobe ones and all your office products updates!

There have been some threads about cast iron on this forum. The link is to one such thread, with emphasis on how to season cast iron. Dan is the resident guru, and his advice about cast iron care is very good. Cast iron cookware has some great strengths and a few weaknesses. Pros: Â It has a tremendous heat capacity, so itÂs ideal for searing meat, blackening fish and so forth. Â ItÂs cheap, and except for rusting, itÂs nearly indestructible. Â Once seasoned, itÂs nearly nonstick. Â ItÂs not very responsive (i.e., the heat doesnÂt go in or out of it quickly) so itÂs ideal for slow cooking stuff at fairly steady temperatures. Cons: Â It will rust if water is left standing in it. Â It takes a while to season, and scouring can screw up the seasoning. Â ItÂs not very responsive, so itÂs unsuitable for things that need rapid changes of temperature such as sauces. Â ItÂs heavy. Â The surface can react with acidic foods such as tomato based sauces, so itÂs really not the best choice for such dishes. I used to go to the healthboards forum till they kicked me off for mentioning a website. I really liked it for any kind of medical info. I am gonna try to join again if they let me.

Hi Cuz...

I tried to post on this earlier...but couldn't post anywhere...don't know what was wrong or why it went away...

But anyway I don't have an answer for you...

Was just going to tell you Dale..(Dorothy's oldest) went in just before Thanksgiving for one of those stress tests. I think he was on a tread mill...and they had to get him off quick because his readings were so high. The did surgery on him that afternoon and put in stints.
I guess his arteries were pretty blocked.

He had gone in for a physical because of needing surgery on his shoulder. Was a big surprise to him..He was feeling okay when he went in. Didn't know he had any problems.

Good thing he needed his shoulder fixed.

He got his shoulder fixed just after Christmas...and things are going well.

Hope your tests turn out good for you.

Thanks to all who replied. I found what I was looking for--almost word for word what Frostedc noted--right after I posted here... So I guess it's routine.

Pat--nothing serious. I've had a partially blocked blood vessel in my chest for years that I think has gotten worse. I'm getting a heart-calcium scan next week, and will probably schedule the stress test after the reports from that are back. More nuisance than anything else, but you know how hubbies can worry.
