Girl talk: Has anyone had uterine ablation surgery?
Comments (22)I had an ablation about 6 years ago. I had previously had surgery to remove a couple of fibroids and that helped considerably, but a year later I was still having bleeding issues and I had the ablation. (my doctor had suggested it at the time of the fibroid removal, but I didn't want to do them both at the same time). My periods didn't stop, but I discovered Light tampons, and only needed about 5 of them a month. I haven't heard of women having hormonal problems after ablation. I certainly didn't have any problems with my procedure, which was done with the balloon method. I had cramping for less than 12 hours, then felt fine. You do need to use birth control, because you can conceive, but there is no where for the embryo to implant without the lining, so a pregnancy could be dangerous. I think that it's important to know why you are having bleeding problems. For example,if you have fibroids like I did, an ablation isn't going to remove the underlying problem....See MoreEndo-Biopsy Tomorrow, 1/6/2009.
Comments (3)Awaiting biopsy results now...told to call doc in two weeks. About the biopsy - took 1 Advil at 12:30, ate a soup lunch, took 2 more Advil; appointment was for 1:30, procedure performed at about 2:15. Procedure was quick and mildly painful. The pain felt like sharp pin pricks inside the lower abdomen. Doing quick shallow breaths helped. Then it was over. No residual pain. Very minor cramping last night. I said to the doctor "we're looking for cancer, aren't we?" She said yes. I said "Well, from my internet research I have a fifty-fifty chance". She said "It's better than that. You have an 80% chance that it is not cancer. But 20% is not small." Then she hugged me and I felt like crying....See MoreBiopsy of the uterine lining
Comments (14)my periods have been extremely irratic for the last 2+ years... anywhere from 2 weeks to 7+ months between them... and TMI here but... disgusting gross "old" lloking blood and globs of flesh at varying times... about a month ago the OB (new one btw) did a endimetrio biopsy to "check out" what was going on due to the irraticness of my cycling... the result was that the lining is in menopause... so, I ask... does that mean this is all done now, especially in light of having 2 days of bleeding about a week after the biopsy??? Yes, you are out of perimenopause and in menopause.... can't 100% rule out you won't generate a "dried up" egg now and then or shed some blood... but it's not a period and the odds of an egg being fertilized AND implanting in your lining are negligible.... BTW... I did start very low dose HRT, with a patch that I change 2x per week... since then the night sweats are GONE, the waking up during the night continues, but I roll over and FALL BACK TO SLEEP!... She says that after I've been on the HRT longer the waking should stop also... my disposition has improved dramatically (amazing what some sleep can do for you) I can't thank the new OB enough at this point... TALK with your OB.... especially about the sleep disturbances and not falling back to sleep.......See MoreMy cat passed the line between prime of life and old...
Comments (9)Some cats get "hooked" on a curtain brand Outside prey is probably better then most 70% pet foods. Keep in mind the oldest cat in the world (34-36 at time of death) existed before cat food, in the 50's she died, the 60's was the boom in pet foods. As long as you de worm regularly, and vac, for rabies/ect/ neuter, (you MUST if you have outdoor cats).. its reasonably safe- from a diet standpoint ,feline population control standpoint, But injuries/predation (risk lower in cites) are a risk. If you do this through, only do it in spring/summer( when weather in agreeable and prey animals are breeding)/and keep close watch on his physical shape, if he gets thin, stop right away, its probably good for our predator-weeded cities too. There's just too many sparrows/bunnies and squirrels to have a heathy eco-system. Personally IMO I'd worry to much about the safety of the cat,but if you wish/ its probably a good way to save money on pet food....See MoreOlychick
