Do You Have Plans for Valentine's Day?

Not anymore. I used to bake a heart shaped cake and a nice meal. Our church is having their annual catered Valentine's supper on the 13th. They are always nice and they put on a program afterward that is enjoyable. Fifty seven years ago my husband and I had our first date on Valentine's Day. Do you do anything special for the holiday?

Nope...we just buy each other cards.
His car club has an annual Valentine's day dinner at a local restaurant. Due to scheduling conflicts, it's being held the following Saturday night.
It's always a good time.

always! the botanical garden, Leu Garden, we got married at always has a Valentine's Day moonlight stroll w/ 4 different jazz/contemporary music bands w/ different food/drink vendors. you can take your own food/wine/drinks etc...people bring large table set-ups w/ candleabra's or simple blankets and tea lights. it's a big social event in orlando. i was torn on whether i wanted to see Harry Connick Jr in Melbourne that weekend or go to Leu but it's a tradition to go to Leu.

it's also the Chinese New Year so we will be bringing and making chinese food! ~ liz

Granlan, that is the way we feel about my father who died in 1960. My husband died two years ago and it comforts me to visit his grave which is in his home town. It is in Lindsborg, Ks and is called Little Sweden. I visit places we went together and have lunch at the Ole Stuga. I also put flowers on his family's graves for his sister who lives out of state.

I have been trying to come up with a plan for the four day holiday weekend that won't have me worn out, but will have to do what I have to do. On Friday we will go to the cemetery in Ohio (115 miles west) to meet with son-in-law at our daughters grave. Visit with sil and have dinner with him and drive back home. Saturday I have a baby shower across the street to go to and after it is over we will go to Erie (99 miles north) to fetch my sister. Back home Saturday evening. Sunday is the grand opening of the picnic season at our other daughter's home here in town. A big "to do" with about 24 people. My sis and I hope to be waited on there. Then on Monday we make the annual trip 'back home' (130 miles east) to put flowers on our parent's and brothers graves. Back home Monday evening. Makes me tired thinking about it all...and my poor hubby does all the driving, plus taking care of 2 handicapped women. He is a gem!

As long as I get some strawberry shortcake I'm happy. Going to my oldest's for dinner. They asked what I want and all I could think of was asparagus or brussel sprouts. Need to think of an entree . I'm just happy I'm not the cook . It's been wonderful my youingest daughter has been cooking since I started chemo and trying new things. Seniorgal, the drive sounds wonderful . Growing ue we did Sunday drives with all of us piled in the car . Drives through North Jersey with fall colors and stopping for apples or ice cream. Some nice music on the radio ... have a wonderful ride today . Whether it's time to yourself or spending with family , I hope all of you enjoy Mother''s Day !

We drove across 4 states to visit my daughter and granddaughter. GD starts 5th grade next week. On the drive back, I'll stop in at my niece to chat a bit. I'm searching for a family member to pass my collection of family memorabilia to. To many, these scraps of paper and photos would be junk and trashed. I'm looking for someone who will treat these old papers gently and who wants the photos. I have discovered that my Niece's son has taken an interest in his family history and my value these things. I'm old enough to know that I do not have many years left and I don't want these items left to chance. We lost a box of family papers that my Aunt had because. she had not passed it to someone. My earliest scrap is a promissory note written in Tennessee in 1822 that promises to pay in bushels of corn. There is another note promising to pay in the money of Tennessee, Coming forward, I have the original Muster Roll of a Captain in the Black Hawk War of 1832 in Illinois and Wisconsin. It is the copy carried by the Captain during the campaign as proved by field notes scribbled on the document. These are two are of the most historical significance in the collection. There are many other items such as property tax receipts and letters. During the 1830s, the Baptist Church split. The breakaway group retained the name, Baptist while the original group changed their name to Primitive Baptist. Also, there was a split in my ancestor's family. One Son went with the new Baptist group and was named a trustee. I have his copy of a deed of land given to the new church. These items are stuff that genealogists value, but is trash to others. I am looking for a keeper of family papers and photos. Other than this, we don't have any plans for the holiday.

Usually we don't do anything. This year I will be babysitting for DD so she and her DH can go out. I love to babysit our 3 year old and 3 month old grandsons. It will be a real treat for me too.

My plan is to avoid ALL chocolate, candy, cakes and cookies. I gained way so much weight over the holidays I hurt.

A nice card and low cal dinner will have to do.

Nothing for me. I will send each of my grandchildren a card with money in it. I do that for the small holidays (Halloween, Valentines Day).

Guess we aren't romantic but to me it's just another Hallmark holiday. (I do have a card that I've given DH several years in a row. He's never noticed. LOL!)

You are so funny Patti 43. We have never done Valentine cards. Heck, he doesn't even do my birthday! He has never taken me out to eat for the holiday or never in his life bought me flowers.

Sue: After reading your latest post about your husband never doing things for you on Vday or your birthday, I just had to post about what my then husband did one year. All the guys he worked with were talking about what they were getting their wives for Vday, and when he said "nothing", they started in on him. They embarrassed him so much that on Vday, he brought me a box of chocolate covered cherries. He went to work and very proudly told the guys. He should have just shut his mouth but he had to 'brag' that the candy did double-duty as it was also for my birthday on the 15th. They razzed him for a long time over his cheapness. It was the ONLY time though that he ever got me anything for either day. Ahem, do you think that might be part of the reason he's my ex? lol

We aren't all that romantic, after 38 years of marriage! But I do love to fix a special meal for my husband, and he usually brings a small box of very, very good chocolates (which we share, but hey, I eat the meal, too!). He knows that if he gives me flowers, they better be in a pot and have roots!

We don't observe valentine's day. Some where along the line we decided every day is really valentine's day for us and Feb 14 really isn't meaningful. I'm going to a musical with a friend in the afternoon. DH is going to be on a business trip to the mid-east.

We don't do anything either, for DH or me. Since it's on a Sunday we will probably make the kids heart shaped pancakes with strawberries for breakfast.

We don't do anything special, but we do send our daughter and grandkids lots of goodies for Valentine's Day. We even celebrate Groundhog Day that way too. Doing for our family is more fun than us doing anything.

Best val-day present in our house will be no more pain for me and if so, maybe a "little something extra" for Eric!lol Walking isn't the only thing not happening as a result of this #@^#@#Y^& pain.
