I know one daughter is coming for dinner. I'll have to make something. She prefers chicken, but will eat red meat. She had requested lamb for Easter and it was wonderful! I got the barbeque grill out so I think I'll barbecue, make a salad and desserts, that's about it, hope my other daughter will be available. I alreasdy bought myself a Mothers Day gift-a Fairy Garden from a local "fancy" nursery. It was expensive -$85- but I love it!

Sue and Jannie, you have it all wrong! This "Mother" is going to sit around and be waited on!

My father is coming here to spend a few days with us. His 90th birthday is Monday, so we will have a multi-day celebration.

Since I am no longer a mother or a daughter, it is a very sad day for me...but at least I can be with my husband and father.

Local DD and I will go down to metro area and do our annual "nursery crawl", taking in a number of them, seeing rest of the DDs that live down there, along with some of the grands and greats.

I go see my mom every Sunday, so I will again this Sunday. The only difference will be that I'll bring a card and a hanging basket of flowers. My son will do the same for me, I'm sure.

Honestly, these Hallmark holidays kind of bug me. My late MIL kept hinting about Grandparents Day, which I had never heard of at the time. I could not afford yet another set of cards and gifts. I told her she had to choose Mother Day or Grandparents Day, not both.

Don't get me started on Admin Professionals Day or Bosses Day. I think birthdays and Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate) is enough.

We celebrated last week while this kids were here. They brought me a hanging basket of impatiens--my favorite garden flower. They also gave us a webcam and installed it so now we can see each other when we talk. Cool!

Like dedtired, I'm not big on Hallmark holidays.

I can't make any plans. A dear friend in CA is in ICU again for the third time in less than 6 weeks. I may have to fly out for a funeral.

Not much planned here either. DD may have a bar-b-que weather permitting. I am not into cards but grandkids do give/send me some really cute ones. Since both my Mother and MIL are gone many years ago don't buy cards except occassionally a sister in law card for one person. They have no children. I feel my kids gives us through out the year and that is fine with me.

Rats, that is this week, isn't it. I'd already planned to spend Sat. cleaning, organizing at the 'old' house and make a run to the country to unload, clean, organize there--since the movers are coming Monday to tote the furniture down. Guess I'll have to reverse that so we're in the suburbs on Sunday--which is more convenient for DD.

Otherwise, as you can see, I've got no plans. Will leave it to DD and DH to figure out where to take me out to dinner (no way I'm cooking the day before the movers come, especially if I've moved all the food on Sat.)

I'll be working. We had to run to Wal-Mart last night and Lauren noticed all the Mother's Day junk and asked me what I wanted for Mother's day. I said, "my house clean, yard cleaned and dinner made"...she laughed and said she didn't think they could make that happen.

we're going to ds2's church for dgd's baby dedication..then hopefully to red robin, if they can get in...it's more her day than mine, and really don't care...

we're also celebrating dd1's 40th bday saturday (she doesn't know) at her (gag) sil's home...i don't care for her..she's aweful to her brother, my sil...but i promise i'll be nice...

Good morning. I think I might be in the minority on this but I really look forward to all holidays. When I was growing up we didn't have much and my mom worked long hard hours. No matter what the holiday my mom recognized it and most of the time it was something very simple. She did it all-St. Patricks day (we are 100% Italian), Washingtons Bday was always a cherry pie with little hatchets for the top crust; Valentines day was dinner in the dining room with a pretty table and a little novelty chocolate for each of us. I think having something to look forward to is a good thing for me. I dont feel pressured to remember these holidays but I really do enjoy them. I know we don't need a "special" to remember our moms but sometimes we get so busy that a little reminder doesn't hurt. I hope all of you have a blessed mother's day whether your Mom is still with you or not just think about the good times you had with her. Satine

Someone decided to schedule graduation for the afternoon of Mother's Day so.... I will be receiving my PhD hood- got the actual diploma last December.

I don't care if dh cooks or we go out to eat. I'm not cooking.

I had hoped to get back to Louisiana to see Mom and the family, Mom has been having a lot of bad days lately. But it is not looking like we will be able to go. I have ordered both of our Mothers 2 dozen mixed color roses so they will have something from us.
We will probably go out to dinner and that's about it.

Satine, your memories about your mom and holidays sound so sweet. I wish they were mine! For my mother, everything seemed such a chore. My sister who lives here and I HATE Mother's Day. Nothing really ever makes our mother happy and we keep trying knowing it is futile, half the siblings or more will ignore the day and we will have to listen about it. When my mother in law was alive it was even harder. She was easy to please, but my mother always resented any time I spent with her. Not inflicting any of it on our kids. Sorry to sound so witchy.

Ravencajun, it sure is hard to be far away, isn't it?

My DD comes to see me every Sunday. Going out to eat is way down low on my list of things to do. In good weather we always sit on the front porch to visit and have a glass of tea.

We just chat and catch up on what ever else is going on.
Ever since she noticed that each spring I bought a hanging basket of Dragon Wing Begonia for my front porch, she has brought me one on Mother's Day (and a card.) I always look forward to that.

Ex- left 41 years ago ... died almost eight years ago.

Daughter, most of her time in another country, not usually at her far-away residence ... but I'll send her a distance-shrinking email.

Son's partner hundreds of miles away ... dealing with her Dad's demise.

That's about the current sum of my female-related story.

I lost my mom 4 years ago so it's a sad day for me. I don't have any kids yet.

I did send flowers to my grandma so hopefully that will make her smile. :)

It's a treat to cook for my son.

I don't seen him, but once in a while, so I enjoy preparing for the two of us.

OUr son will be here fromn ND. I will be working all weekend. We probably will be going out to Bob's Steakhouse for supper. On Thursday we leave for Holland MI to see our daughter and her husband and 2 daughters. I can hardly wait.

Plans are not made yet for us - usually DS, DIL, and GS take me out to breakfast with DH. Last year we then went to our local children's park to play with GS. Then they go to her parent's house for her Mother's Day.

However, this year is special because my son's birthday falls on Mother's Day. He will be turn 32 and is my one and only child. My husband and I had infertility problems and I ended up having surgery so that I could get pregnant.
We tried for 7 years to have a child and lost 2 in miscarriages. I got pregnant a month after surgery to my doctor's surprise. Had a wonderful pregnancy, had him by C-section. Never used birth control again and never got pregnant again! So he is my miracle baby and whatever he wants to do Sunday, we will do! After all, I told him, I wouldn't be a Mom without him!
