Tips for Risotto

I've tried making risotto a couple of times and just don't get it. Its ok, mostly tastes like the parm I put on it. I did do the put the chicken stock in a bit at a time part.

I'm going to try again. What are the tips? I just saw somewhere that you are supposed to warm the chicken stock before you ladel it in. What else?
