Food arts by kids - lots of silly pictures

Little man's girlfriend's grandma died suddenly. I have the girl for today so her parents can take care of business. Picked them up at school around lunch time. These two belong to the anti-veggie gang so I had to pick my brain to get them eat a little bit of the good stuff. Came up with the idea of food arts. Gave them each a pesto garlic tortilla spread with cream cheese and mayo, help them cut out some ham, cheese, nori, and vegetables. By the end of lunch, the girl ate a lot more veggies than the boy. Their artwork, wow, very very different!

Little girl's artwork:

Her lunch has yam (the cat), red pepper, carrot, spinach, & broccoli.

Little man's artwork:

The only fresh vegetable on little man's lunch was that one spinach eyeball and the hat. Well, he did eat a lot of nori. LOL

Now I just have to come up with a dinner that both of them will eat. :-)

I teach Kindergarten and I have had some parents who have actually matted and framed some of their children's artwork! You would be surprised at how nice it looks when you take some of that collage/Jackson Pollack-looking art a 4- or 5-year old makes and mat and frame it. :) It can look quite astonishingly beautiful! :) I also teach the children to "sign" their work in the corner. We utilize different art mediums so the children are familiar with watercolor, oil pastels, water color crayons, markers, acrylics, tempera paints, and more, as I think it helps to expand their artistry. :)

Who am i to second guess the hostess....but i find that if kids can have an excuse to use a plate and a fork your house will stay cleaner. Bitty dogs...little smokies in a BBQ sauce....tiny sandwiches, veggies and ranch...ANYTHING and ranch, fruit pizza...with the cookie dough crust,cream cheese and fruit. pigs in a blanket, little cheese puffs...nacho dip...velveeta and rotel heated and kept warm... tacos, burritos...peanut butter and jelly sandwiches cut into triangles.... Chocolate milk...cake...cookies.

Here are a few of my Angel Sadie...she always LOVED presents And she always liked to rub up against the couch,bed, really any furniture just like a cat would. LOL, she would often move the living room chair half way across the room. And this is her special chair. She didn't settle into the new house last year until her chair arrived. We could not get her out of that thing for about 8 hours the day it arrived with the movers. I was just thinking the same thing, rachelellen, funny she made the pig out of ham, LOL.

Be careful your guy doesn't get too much spinach. (grin) Makayla's wouldn't even have that much spinach on it!

Thanks everyone! They did have fun playing and eating at the same time. The ham was my idea because there was no "meat" on the tortilla. Then they took my idea and ran with it. They didn't like spinach at all. I added the spinach eyeball on and the two of them went "Oh no! The evil spinach!" But both of them ate everything including the spinach! We had fun.

Now someone tell me that there is really no "basic" difference between boys and girls! LOL

You can't generalize about boys and girls from a single sample, but I do think that the boy's art show much more artistic expression and talent than the girl's. Check them out again ten years later and see what they will be doing then. As a designer, I am much more drawn to the boy's expression than the girl's, but then I am also much more appreciative of abstract art. The girl's expression looks folksy and primitive, whereas the boy's art is much more daring and original. I would say that the boy is more of an artist than the girl, whom I would describe more as a decorator than an artist. Individual differences are much more important than one's sex IMO.
