Ped**Egg and Nutmeg -- is there a connection??

Hello all,

Well I purchased a Ped**Egg knock off at the dollar store. Somehow it got into my kitchen. I kept looking at it and thought it really looked like the grater I use for hard cheese. I decided the "cup" intended for skin flakes would make a great place for fresh ground nutmeg. I tried it. It works great! Of course there is no place to store the nutmeg kernel so I just popped it back into the jar.

Noooooooo I never used it for skin - only nutmeg!!

Hey I have one of those... but I have used it on my foot so the thought of using it to grate nutmeg is a bit too much for me to handle! LOL

Sounds delicious, unfortunately I am the only one in the house who will eat pumpkin. Will this work if I sub apple sauce for the pumpkin? My husband is the same way when he is tired and cranky, he doesn't care what time of the day it is he just wants breakfast. It is his favorite meal and the smell of french toast, baked oatmeal, omelets, or especially bacon just makes him feel good. You've got to love a man who is so easy to please after such a hard day!

craftsman tile going in...dark or light grout?

Think the dark grey is the way to go. It actually has some greenish tones to it(or so it seems to my inexperienced eye) which blend well with the tile. It seems like the best match to make the grout "disappear". louisianapurchase, our countertops are Absolute Black Silk granite. Similar to Absolute black honed, but they have a bit of bumpy texture that we really liked.

Thanks for all the compliments. Answering a few specific questions: sadiebrooklyn: I don't think we ordered a strainer separately, so it probably came with the garbage disposal. My DH picked that out, so I'd have to double-check, but I'm pretty sure it was the InSinkerator 3/4 hp Evolution. jsweenc: The floor is BR-111 engineered wood, called Amendoim. We had it already in the family, living and dining rooms, and had the same installers come back and extend it into the kitchen. They did a great job -- it's hard to tell where old floor ends and new floor begins. quincin: Yes, to be fair, it's harder to clean the corners than in our old drop-in enameled sink, which was all smooth curves. It's not a real pain in the neck, though... I just have to be sure I run one finger right into each one with a dishcloth. I do it once a day, after putting all the dishes into the DW in the evening. The rest of the time, we use the sprayer on the faucet. We have a zero reveal from our countertop to our sink -- vertically, the sink wall and the edge of the counter above the undermount sink are ligned up. This makes cleaning less of a chore. Do a search for sink reveal on the forum if I'm not writing about this clearly... it's something you'll want to specify when you order your countertop. rjr220: We had your review of the Stages sink printed out when it was time to put ours in, so yes, I do think we live in each others' dream kitchens! Oh, and our vent hod is higher off the counter than the specs say. 32 inches, I believe. artemis78: I'll keep typing our lighting saga.

Most places sell it for between five and six or up to eight dollars, so that's a great price. They say they're 15 oz bottles. Maybe somebody else would want to go in on it with you?? I've always heard of it described as a mayo with more vinegar and also with a mustard taste. Sounds good. Smiles. My DW used it when she used to travel to the UK all the time for buisness. Surprised she didn't bring any back. I have a head of savoy cabbage so I'm going to make my easy 'stuffed' cabbage casserole that I described above. It makes it so easy and quick which is just what we want on a Saturday night. Steam the cabbage briefly, layer it with dirty rice, pour some tomato juice mixed with onion and garlic powder between layers and on top and bake for about 40 minutes. I'll see if I can manage to take a picture. I seem to be terrible at that. The camera is always in the other room and it's a kind of big house and by the time I'm done cooking I'm not walking very well. LOL.. We will see. Oh btw, I always make two dishes of this because Christy gets burnt out on "red" since I always have something made with red sauce around I make her a version with just some broth on it. I do stuffed peppers for her the same way. No red. I do love the red on it but prefer tomato juice since it's nice and light although I'll just water down tomato sauce or puree with chicken stock/broth, if I don't have any handy.

On the flip-side, I've been meaning to thank Lars for his recommendation of a microplane for feet. It really helped me with a heel problem this winter.

(And yes, it's been retired from the kitchen drawer!)

Microplane for feet? Isn't that a bit too sharp? I often suffer from cracked heels during the winter months. Maybe I should give that a try.

I also took Lars' recommendation about using the microplane for rough heels and calluses. It works like a charm and I have one in the bathroom in a basket, it stays there.

I already have a microplane that I use as a nutmeg grater, so I won't need to shop for that PedEgg. (grin)

The microplane I have and the PedEgg have the same shape and distance of "grates"...they look identical..

so sure why not..

I have a nutmeg grater..and it's has little teethy things that stick up and I'm always catching myself hit them!

Al - It wasn't until I went to replace my microplane (the rasp type) that I realized just how much my original was worn out, so it wasn't too crazy sharp. That, plus switching to shoes (vs barefoot or sandals) plus Nivea lotion, quickly got me out of an extremely painful situation a month or so ago.

I have a real microplane I use for feet....and another for nutmeg and lemon peel....I try really hard not to mix them up!

I also took up Lars suggestion several years ago and have been using a microplane on my feet. It stays in the bathroom and nothing else comes close to working as well as that does. I go barefoot a lot and get very callused feet, all year.

Thanks FOAS! I will go look around to see if I can find the right type of microplane. Just a question... how do you catch the dead skin without a catcher? guess I can't do that in my bed any more. I do wear socks and slippers around the house but my heels still crack from time to time. The only way to prevent cracking is to apply Vaseline at night and wear my socks to bed. If I get lazy and/or become forgetful they will crack and I hate it!

I don't know beanthere, I'm skeptical of microplanes actually made for feet...I think they'll be too wimpy.

I wish it weren't so Pat. Guess if I wore shoes all day maybe my soles wouldn't start to get leathery.

I don't know, Bumblebeez, they got their start making woodworking tools. I figure mind are harder than pine, but probably not as bad as oak. LOL!

Yeah, I'm constantly running back and forth from the bathroom to the kitchen....... now where did I leave my PedEgg this time??

PS the microplane is no worse than those Credo Blades used on heels in salons. But do be careful, you can take too much off and it'll hurt to walk for a while.

Al - I sit on the edge of the tub, foot over the toilet. I suppose I could do it in the tub or shower, too, and then rinse it down. But no, not in bed.

I have a vanity in the bathroom with a chair and hold my foot over the bathroom trash can- which I keep under the sink.

Like bumblebeez, I hold my foot over the trash can and file away. Sometimes I just put a towel down on the floor and then shake that into the trash can. If I'm really lazy, I end up sweeping the floor, fortunately it's tile, LOL.

I'm not sure which came first but it seemed to me that when Microplanes suddenly got "famous" in home cooking circles - then all the sudden along came ped egg.
I had heard of people using microplanes for their feet pre ped egg so who knows.
