Vitamin C for the face - - -

Didn't want to hijack the other thread, so decided to start this one.

Rose said she uses Cellex C and I googled that and found several places to buy. Rose - what product(s) do you use in that line?

If you use another vitamin C, and like it, please post.

When I buy the Cellex C I get the Hydra B complex serum as a bonus. I use it in the winter, I find it helps plump the skin.

I'm making my own vitamin C serum. I just restarted, so I can't tell you about the results yet. I bought L Ascorbic Acid powder from Amazon. I mix a half teaspoon with 4.5 teaspoons of rosewater, but you can use distilled water. Some people add a drop or two of glycerin, but I didn't like how that felt on my face. I put it into a cobalt blue spray bottle. It's important that you don't put it in a clear bottle, because light makes it go bad quickly. I have been spraying it on my body, and spray some on my hands to put on my face. As my skin gets used to it I will increase the amount of Vitamin C powder in the mix.

I was reading this yesterday too, the Calville Blanc is at around 18 mg /100gr, some others I found today. 30 - 35 mg in Braeburn 25 mg in Sturmer 15 - 20 mg in Idared 16.... in Ribston 15.....in Blenheim Boskoop I used to pick thousend of pounds, back in Switzerland when I was a teen. I loved this apple the most for picking, lovely looking with red cheeks, late apple, huge sturdy trees. But I don't think I have eaten more than five apples fresh,.. too sour! We stored some, execllent keepers and one of the best cooking apples. Actually, I had a graft on one of my trees here and had some apples on for two seasons, fireblight got into this tree and choped it down, but forgot to keep some scion wood. i looked at a few reviews of amquel plus (kordon) - don't know if that's what you were using? it claims it does not change PH, but people say it drops it considerably (but not ALL people, so it depends on your local water formulation). here's quote: .. it significantly reduces your pH. If you continually add it to your tank without any water changes in hopes of maintaining proper water parameters, you will end up with a pH around 6.0-6.2. I buffered my water with baking soda, bringing the pH back up to 7.6, but that only lasted a couple hours until it dropped back down. ... obviously 7.6 is good for fish, but not for AV's. it seems that conditioner is formulated to keep PH neutral (which is NOT good for av's) on the other hand 6-6.2 SHOULD be OK for AV's...(if not for fish;)) ...so it gets kinda complicated, since your water plays a big role too. also conditioner binds heavy metals (copper,zinc)! from optimara site: Optimum soil pH ranges from 5.8 and 6.2. A good potting soil, which has been blended especially for African Violets, will have the correct pH. However, there are other factors which can affect pH, such as concentrations of fertilizer salts and soft water. If the pH of the potting soil varies too much from 5.8 to 6.2, your African Violet will not be able to absorb the proper amount of nutrients it needs. For instance, high pH can result in a deficiency of iron, whereas low pH can result in a deficiency in phosphorus. ..[ either one will cause slow growth rate] ..later on... slow growth might be happening due to zinc defficiency (!). to make the long story short - you're neutralizing/removing chloramines, but also might be playing with PH and fertilizer absorbtion rates. ..later on.. do not use soft water. Soft water increases the saline content in your potting soil... i also read that.. all municipal water systems in the western world add soda ash or sodium hydroxide or a similar alkali substance, to get the pH up to 8 or even 9! as far as using spring water - you need to know where it comes from and it's alkalinity and PH still! it might be soft too naturally (like in FL and many other parts of the country). ... my head is ringing already from all this.... Potatoes like acidic soil, and vitamin C is ascorbic acid (a weak acid). Vitamin C pills may dissolve slowly enough that they may acidify the soil immediately under the plant for a while. 1g of ascorbic acid per planting hole won't acidify much, though, and there are cheaper ways to acidify soil. Ascorbic acid is an effective antioxidant and is important for plant growth, but that's why the plants produce it, and potatoes produce quite a bit. Not clear they benefit from absorbing it through their roots. Yes, a with/without experiment with the same type would be the right way to do test this.

I wash morning and night with … They discontinued my beloved cleanser … I’d used it for 20+ yrs and am still sad … Use this sunscreen every morning … And this oil at night (I keep it the fridge) … I remove mascara with baby shampoo — I find it’s gentler and works better than other removers. I’ve started doing ice dunks (ice and water in a big bowl) in the mornings, but don’t know if it’s doing anything skin-wise. Does feel refreshing! ETA: Forgot my favorite thing … Allison recommended these years ago and I LOVE them. I use them a few times a week. She shared a great hint, too — cut them in half to get more. It leaves plenty of product. I also dermaplane my face once or twice a week, I love the smoothness and it helps make-up and products go on better.

terriks does it have to be in spray form? I battled an eyelid dermatitis for 8 months and am now excruciatingly careful about what I use on my eyes but can use creams, serums etc elsewhere on my face. Seems it would be near impossible to spray and not hit around the eye area.

It definitely does not have to be a spray. Mine is a spray simply because the cobalt blue bottle that I bought has a spray cap. It seems like most people apply it with a cotton pad.
Since I can spray it I decided to use it on my whole body since it's easier to spray my legs, etc. than to use a cotton pad on them. I got the "recipe" from the MakeupAlley reviews linked to below. You may have to register to view, so here's the basics:

5% Serum-1/4 tsp Powder-4 & 3/4 tsp base
10% Serum-1/4 tsp Powder-21/4 tsp base
15% Serum-3/8 tsp Powder-2 1/8 tsp base
20% Serum-1/4 tsp Powder-1 tsp base

Increase potency slowly (like every week or every other week). It will burn, but tough it out and it will be worth it! You can fan your face to help with the burn too. Also, dabbing rather than swiping helps prevent some of the burning.

She is right about the burning. Before I found this recipe I mixed a batch way too strong. My neck and chin got very red and irritated.

Well, I expect to look at least ten years younger...
But I would settle for more even skin tone and fewer lines.

How long did you use it before? Not long enough to tell results?

I think I would like something in a cream form and to be honest, am a bit leary of mixing my own. Thanks for the info - will have to check it out further.

I'm a total DIY person. I petitioned for both kids adoption, did my old divorce, remodeled two kitchens and two bathrooms. Mixing a serum sounds like cake.

(I'll be writing for advice after I burn my face off.)

I only used it for a week or so before, then we went on vacation and I didn't think it would be a good idea to bring some white powder in my carry on. ;)
When we got back I just didn't start up again until now
