Planting potatoes with vitamin C -- success

I'd read that you could put vitamin C in the holes when you plant potatoes, and since I'm always trying to increase potato yields, and since I'd found an old bottle of vit C no one was using I decided to give it a try.

Results: 2 rows with one capsule 1000 mg vit C per planting hole. Yields: Row 1: 38 1/2 pounds. Row 2: 36 1/2 pounds.

Ran out of vit C, so third row was planted without it. Yield Row 3: 16 pounds. These were Katahdins, which normally produce well for me.

It would have been a better experiment if I'd tried some of the same type "with" and "without" but these results are good enough for me to invest in a couple bottles of vit C next spring. (rows 1 and 2 were Red Maria, Green Mountain, and Satina)

Anyone ever tried this? I've since tried googling it, but all I get is the vit C content of potatoes, and I have forgotten where I read it.
