Toblerone has been aropund for a long time....there are different kinds, milk chocolate, dark chocolate and filled with various things...nougate comes to mind.
so it depends on what bar they want you to use as what to substitute.
As for the cheese spread....don't use cheeze whiz....buy some cheese spread....variously made by kaukana club, or Kraft.
I don't think anyone makes it in a jar any more.

Linda C,
I wasn't planning on using Cheese Whiz mentioned that because thats the only one I know comes in a jar. Don't usually buy jar cheeses. I know its a white sharp cheese for the recipe. Where in the store might I find the brand you are mentioning? Thank you.

Toblerone comes in a long, yellow, triangular box. I bet you have seen it before but it just didn't register as a "candy bar". It was my roommates' favorite in college. If I remember correctly, it was milk chocolate with little cruncy bits in it. Somewhere between a Nestle Crunch bar and a Heath bar. The bits were spaced in the chocolate like the Crunch bar (though probably not as densly sprinkled as in the Crunch bar). The bits themselves were crunchier and more substantial than the rice bits in Crunch (the bits were more like the texture of Heath toffee . . .though a tad bit softer).

I am pretty sure you can still find Toblerone though. If not at a regular store, then at Trader Joes or Cost Plus Imports.

Good luck!

The cheese in a jar is sometimes called "Pub Cheese" and would be in the refrigerated section, not far from the American and other processed cheeses.

Toblerone is one of my favorite candy makers, I would use a chocolate with finely chopped almonds in it as a sub if you need to.

My favorite toblerone is in a dark brown box- long skinny triangular shaped- and has a nougat in it, but the nougat is indiscernible in appearance. This is my favorite chocolate.

Around here, they (Toblerone) are in all the grocery stores and even Walgreens (don't ask know I know). I didn't even know what they they were until I was 22.... now I'm sorry I found out, becuase they are great!

I didn't know what Toberone was either until a couple of years ago when I found a bread recipe that called for Toblerone. Dishesdone promptly sent me one, LOL, and now I try to stay away from them, although I know I've seen them at the local Walgreen's, at Meijer's and I think at WalMart. Probably Target too, I try to ignore them, LOL. As mentioned, they come in a triangular shaped box, the one I had was yellow and it was milk chocolate with pieces of toffee in it.

In my grocery store the cheese in a jar is kept right next to the cheez whiz in a jar, it's not refrigerated. Kraft makes it and it comes in a little jar that is about the size of a juice glass. It's right there with the powdered cheese in a bottle and the Velveeta.

I know there's also some cheese type spreads in the refrigerated section as Alexa mentions, but I never checked for "flavors", I know there's a pimento cheese one in my store but I don't know about others.

I haven't thought of Toberone bars in years. Great...now I'll have to go find one...Yee Hee...

Howdie!

Its nice to see you Sapphires!! I think of you when I go to my storage unit right behind the Hampton Inn on the pike!!

WE sell the cheese you are looking for in the dairy aisle.
Yes it does come in a jar. I actually have a recipe that calls for it (Crabbies-its like a crab topped cracker much like shrimp toast)

You can try the Acme at Woodhaven...go to the desk and ask for Kevin, he should be able to tell you where it is.
If all else fails just let me know and I'll get you some at my store.

The candy bar is sold at CVS or RiteAid.

We should try to get together soon!! Let me know!!

Cheers!
Susie

Doing okay, how about yourself? Didn't your store close down and become a Pathmark? Thanks for the picture link. Take care.

Sapphires

Na my chain is still Acme...Frank works at Superfresh-Superfresh bought out Pathmark and changed all the city stores into pathmarks.
I work at the store in Mayfair but I take my mom to the woodhaven store....she likes it cuz its small and has everything she needs.
Frank is also a mailman in Bensalem and he delivers the mail all along bristol pike including the acme so if you ever see the mail man there go ahead and say hello!!

Cheers!
