Precious girls! How far apart are they? I thought they may be twins at first. Cute outfits! Now you have to tell about their personalities!

Prom night. That brings back memories! Both girls are just lovely.
We saw a stretch limo last night and 3 couples dressed for prom got out- and got snowballs from the stand!

Just one thing and off topic, I guess. Why have girls given up long dresses? They look lovely, BUT I just think that there are so few times in life when they get to get so very dressed up in long dresses and it just seems sad to me that this is over (for now, I guess.) This just happened five or six years ago in the Bay Area; I don't know about the rest of the country, but understand that it's pretty widespread.

I do remember prom being a big deal BECAUSE you got to wear a long dress. Short dresses were for homecoming. I am actually kind of surprised that long isn't back, since maxi dresses seem to be the fashion statement of summer. But styles change, and certainly they both look super.

My daughter got a short dress for several reasons, starting with the fact she had no desire to spend money on something she is NEVER going to wear again! I think that might be true for a lot of girls today. Teenagers dress uber-casually in their daily lives. And sometimes in their dress-up lives; anyone recall the girls' sports team who were photographed with Pres. Bush at the White House wearing their flip-flops?!

Anyway my daughter was quite clear. She wanted to get a dress she could wear for other formal occasions. And, she simply didn't see herself or want to be seen as someone wearing a foofy long formal. As she said, it isn't her.

We ended up finding literally the perfect dress in the first one she tried on. It is gorgeous, burgundy silk that has spaghetti straps that can be removed to make a strapless effect. She is already planning on wearing it to her graduation family dinner at a nice restaurant, and mentioned it would be perfect for holiday parties too. A full length formal would go into the closet never to be seen again. And for the money, I feel much better knowing she will have a nice formal party dress if she needs one.

They are 19 months apart. Best friends at times and worst enemies at times! The youngest (black dress) is very modest and the oldest (green dress) isn't!

My youngest was actually going to wear a long, flowing dress but changed her mind the night before. The black dress happened to be from her Sister's closet. It ended up being a good choice because all of her friends were wearing short dresses and I think she felt more comfortable at the dance.

My oldest also had a wardrobe change the night before! She was originally going to wear a short, wine colored dress but saw this one at the mall and liked it better. We ran to the mall as soon as it opened the next morning and bought it and the shoes. (The wine dress had gold accents and we couldn't find any gold shoes so it worked out better for her.) I wasn't too upset about the cost of buying a new dress because the wine dress came from a resale shop and it was only $30. The green dress was only $40. DD will be wearing the green dress this weekend to another dance, too.

I have to say that the Oldest Daughter had the shortest dress at the Prom. (It was a homeschool prom!) But it passed the 'longer than the fingertips rule' so it was ok.

Yeh girls change their minds a bit don't they!
In our community they wear both long and short to the senior prom. Mostly short to the junior prom and the other dances.
The kids I mentioned getting out of the limo in my above post were in long gowns too cute getting in line at snowball stand.

All I see are short dresses, I kinda like it. Very fresh. The only problem we run into is that the clevage is over exposed. Both your daughters picked dresses which have very nice tops. The black one is the kind I like, so many plunge down too far, even for 17-18. They both look age appropriate and the shoes are to die for! Hope they were not too cold not wearing nylons- lol!

I've noticed prom styles have changed drastically in the past 9 years! Everything from the dresses to the hair. It all comes around again doesn't it? Gosh, this last paragraph was a slap in the face regarding my age, lol.

Very cute! A far cry from my floor length Laura Ashley prairie girl prom dress and sausage curled 'wings'. Circa Prom Nite 1979. My date wore a baby blue tux with a black shirt. Kids are so much cuter today.
