I would dump this place in a split second and not worry my fuzzy little head about the money we'd have to bring to the table. There's a certain stone-and-shingle bungalow I know of in Portsmouth (NH) where I'd walk right up to the front door and say "how much ya want?" Now that DH has been transferred to his employer's Portsmouth office, we're back to the 30-40 minute commute instead of the 5 minute commute... argh. And I'd love to live on the outskirts of Portsmouth (downtown, not so much) because it's just such a nifty city.

Get his tattoos reworked by a really talented artist. Our previous artist left town halfway through DH's double armbands and I've been reluctant to spend the money to have them finished when there are so many other "needs" rather than "wants" in our cashflow situation. He's also not really a stuff-oriented person, so he wouldn't care about a huge home theater system or a flashy car.

Probably the UK - is that cheating, since it's really Great Britain-Scotland-Ireland under one umbrella? Australia would be my other option if it had to be just ONE country, if we could break up the 26+ hour flight over a couple of days with interesting stopovers (DH went a few years back for business and said the flight was hell).

Small-town libraries in rural Maine. For a library serving a community (or several communities) totalling just a few thousand people, a couple of hundred thousand dollars would go a LONG way toward modernizing, improving the collections, etc.

That's a toughie, since I'm not one to spend money on myself at all. Probably get the ink I've been waiting for. One piece is a simple little one that would be cheap and quick and the only reason I haven't done it is that I haven't found the right artist, but the other two tattoos I have worked out on paper are very complex, multiple sessions, and so would be pretty spendy. (And of course I would be utterly neurotic if we didn't put away at least half!)

I'd get my mother squared away so I don't have to worry about her as much - buying or building her a good solid little house, closer to civilization (it's nearly an hour over bad roads to the closest hospital, for example, and as she ages - and not very healthily either - it gives me the twitches) instead of the falling-apart doublewide she has now, along with a plain, reliable car that runs more than three or four days a week in the garage behind the house. We would have wind turbines & solar power. I would also build a few casitas on the property to house the families that would be working the land.

This answer varies depending on transportation or family status. I would imagine Africa but since I'm likely going there soon anyhoo that wouldn't count (and it's hardly luxury!!) But for true luxury, gad it's a toss up between traveling France and drinking like fishes or traveling Wales and Scotland and drinking like fishes :oP On each trip we would be taking a most valuable asset...A NANNY!!! (ok grandma too cuz we love her and she would love to go).

We plan on starting a charity to fund travel expenses for family members or caregivers of children who need to leave alaska for medical care. Our primary focus is the non-diagnosed. Given that we now have several million more than we thought we would for the foundation (thanks Lynn) we would expand that to the lower 48 to cover caregivers expenses for families up to the 150% of area median income level. I would consider a stipend for a family member who would need to quit their job to be with their child if Lynn's money came through as well. Too many people can't stay with their children in hospital. It's wrong and heart breaking and I want to do whatever I can to stop that....oh dear I was on a soap box...let me jump off.

I do know that I would eventually sell our house and move somewhere else, I just don't know where yet. I would probably like to have at least 2 homes. The only thing that I'm sure that I'd do immediately is pay of my oldest son's student loans. After a rocky high school career - he dropped out just months before graduation he finally put himself through school, and I know that he has some hefty loans to repay. There is no one foreign country that I'm aching to see - I'd like to visit lots of them (I know that's against the rules of the game). There is no particular thing (car, jewelry, etc.) that either of us are yearning for. So I think that I would need quite a bit of time to answer all these questions!

A few years ago a family from my area won about $350 million in the Powerball lottery. Their kids went to the same high school as mine, and I know that they donated a lot of stuff to the school, paid to redo a lot in the gym, etc. One of the Realtors in the office I work at had sold them a home before they won the lottery, and has since sold them and other family members several more homes. To see them you would never guess that they have money. They are friendly and polite when they come into the office. They started their own foundation, but I'm not sure what the emphasis is on. They just got done building their dream house on the Oregon coast.

Sell and move into a cute lakefront cottage with a big front porch on a beautiful quiet small lake. One that you can jump into your boat and motor across to pick up groceries at the cute little shop dockside.

I know that many of us have kids, but to keep this game reasonably short, let's not go there now . . . so just your spouse/SO: A shiny new Winnebago with a tow behind Mercedes so we can jump in and go wherever. He would want to pick out his own sports cars.

3) What the FIRST foreign country you'd plan a trip to . . . and do NOT tell us "around the world!" (LOL) . . . let this be a more specific answer: Galapagos Islands.

4) What first charity would you donate a significant amount of money to, or start one of your own for what cause? Eating disorders.

5) What is the FIRST big thing you'd do for YOU? Big honkin' but oh so tasteful diamond stud earrings.

Our folks are long gone so it would be to set up trust funds for our kids and someday grandkids. Party on knowing that everyone is set for life.rock and roll.

1) I'd stay put. I like my house very much, and love my gardens.

2) Take my husband to Paris, his favorite city in the world.

3) I'd like to go to China and walk on the Great Wall.

5) Quit work and take classes! Become a master gardener! Raise bees!

6) I have a dear friend who has faced nothing but hard times all her life; as a child, she was molested for 10 years by her brother; her daughter was 2 when diagnosed with brain cancer--when chemo and all treatments ended (when her daughter was 18), my friend succumbed to an aneurysm, strokes, and was diagnosed with Parkinson's. Her husband is now facing unemployment. I would pay off all her accumulated medical debts, and make badly-needed repairs to her beautiful home. Nothing would make me happier.

2) I wanted to buy him the Chicago Cubs but he just told me it would cost 450 million sooo send him on a cross country walking trip for charity.

3) I would stay in the US and follow dh and meet up with him in luxury hotels every few days

5) Open a vintage/antiques store. Let someone else run it and go on world wide buying trips.

6) Take maybe 30-40% and split between family and good friends.

1. I would pay off the house at the same time workers were repairing the water damage.

2. Hubby would get to hire a landscape architect to fulfill our landscaping dreams with them using power equipment and Dh watching with a glass of lemonade in his hand and a smile on his face.

3. We would travel to France and follow the routes of the brave D'Artagnan and his friends but stopping to pick up antiques along the way.

4. We would warm up by donating to the local food bank and then keep going from there.

5. For me, I would submit my notice to my place of employment either via a Howler (a'la Harry Potter) or through a Screaming Telegram letting the company know exactly what I think is wrong with it and make sure they understand how unhappy many of their employees are.

6. I would be generous to family but for many, there would be limits. I would try to ensure that all my nephews will have a chance to attend college without acquiring student loans. I would pay off my mom's house and give her a some money towards desired renovations.

DH and kids would never want to move. But if they were agreeable, I'd move to a house in our neighborhood that had larger bedrooms, a real guest room, a larger living room, a real home office, and a really nice finished basement with real windows and a door to the back yard. And a screen porch overlooking a not-too-big, but bigger-than-ours back yard.

DH has always said if we won a lottery, he'd give 1 million to a local church that operates a kitchen that feeds anyone for free.

It's been such fun to read through all the funny and thoughtful responses here. I'd say that we're a group of very giving people here . . . and very nice, as well!
