ebay email scams, why ??

I've been getting a few of those emails, what do they wish to accomplish with those fake messages ?? I verified and all is well with my Paypal account.

I deleted the messages but I'm curious if this is standard practice and why.

I did not verify what the item was, since it's irrelevant and I'm not a seller.

How did my email address get nabbed; I've made 2 ebay purchases recently.

Letters like that go out randomly to people that don't even buy or sell on Ebay and who do not have Paypal accounts. The sender is hoping for a reply so he can verify that he sent the email to a working email address. Then the junk mail starts coming and coming.

However, some letters go out asking for updates to a PayPal account and though the attached link seems valid, it isn't. And once the victim updates the information, the scammer has access to CC information amd a checking account number.

All correspondence should go directly from you through eBay and PayPal after you initiate the email.

It's a shame, isn't it that we always have to be on the lookout for scams?

Morning, Eahamel, mind if I ask where you're located? These days I suffer memory loss. lol. You probably mentioned location a million times. Are your citrus in containers or in-ground? Heck, wish my potted citrus grew like you describe yours. :) I think most plants need breathing room, although many authors say grouped plants retain humidity. But, plants kept too close lack air circulation. Something, plants, 'especially indoors,' require. How large do Rio fruit get? Ex..size of Navel orange or Grapefruit. My citrus are grown for decoration, and love of growing.. However, I have eaten lemon, calamondin and kumquats. As for 25' trees, I'm sure fruit isn't wasted. Birds get to nibble, too. :) So true..grafted trees fruit much faster than bushes. I think the only ungrafted citrus in my collection is a Calamondin.. Eahamel, citrus are not hardy in IL. One year 'out of desperation,' lol, I bought Poncirus/FD, then planted in- ground. It survived our freezing winters, think 3-yrs, but so slow-growing. One year, during winter, some Bozo walked across the garden, 'FD was dormant,' instead of the walkway. In the process my FD broke at the base. I was SO upset. It never grew back. HA! weather people. Plan opposite predictions. lol. According to forecasters, we're supposed to get rain all of next week. We'll see..we sure need rain, too. I should have checked to see if you started a new thread before posting here. We'll all do the rain dance..:) Toni PS. I have sown store-bought citrus seeds.. lemon. It grew so, very fast, but thorns were longer and more prickly than cactus. One pro...foliage had super-strong lemony scent. More pronounced than nursery bought, established fruit.

I do hope folks are being more careful on what email attachments they open up. Snow has stayed away and we were in the 60's for the last couple of days. The rain came back along with thunder and lightning and its back to the 30's today. :-(. Julia

I got one from the FBI, I'm not kidding, it said they would send me $2.3 million via France and here's a direct copy of the heading and first line: Federal Bureau of Investigation Counter-terrorism Division and Cyber Crime Division J. Edgar. Hoover Building Washington DC Attention, Records show that you are among one of the individuals and organizations who are yet to receive their overdue payment from overseas which includes those of Lottery/Gambling, Contract and Inheritance. I sent this on to our Spam people at Suddenlink. Everyday I delete from my spam file at least two of the "unable to deliver" emails, most often purportedly from fedex, ups or usps. What an annoyance and I can only hope we, and especially the elderly in our country, are up on all these and recognize them for what they are. Since we end up blocking loads and loads of phone calls, both on our landline and cell phones, it's a wonder any legit business can get through to us. If our insurance agent were to call, for instance, would I recognize his number? No.

thanks Mona, I get it now; I somehow thought it was related to my recent purchases.

I did get a paypal fake email asking for verification of my account,
and coincidentally it was right around the time I reactivated my dormant account.

yes I agree it's a shame and it's also a fact of life now.

I definitely start to get these when I've been ON eBay. It's been going on for quite some time so eBay & Paypal don't seem to have a handle on it. Don't think it always happens when I've actually made a purchase but I usually do sign on and dump things to my account to watch. I'd love to know what the connection is and how they get my email address, as it is no coincidence.

Some scammers will email a question regarding an item you have for sale.

Not only will the question appear on your ebay page, it will appear on your personal email site as well. They're hoping you respond directly to their email from there rather than sending a response through eBay. If you do this then they have your personal email address.
