Warning about email scam

I opened my email today, and there was an email titled "Important Notice"...and the sender is WalMart.

In the body, there's a survey promising $90 if you fill it out - this should make you suspicious.

It asks for a credit card, social security number and PIN, along with other personal information.

There is nothing,yet, on Snopes. But this is OBVIOUSLY not legit.

I know most, if not all, of you will recognize this as a scam, but please warn any people you know who may be more trusting and enticed by the amount of money.

I keep getting an iTunes email that looks very real. Something about a gift from them.

I got one from the FBI, I'm not kidding, it said they would send me $2.3 million via France and here's a direct copy of the heading and first line:

Federal Bureau of Investigation
Counter-terrorism Division and Cyber Crime Division
J. Edgar. Hoover Building Washington DC

Attention,

Records show that you are among one of the individuals and organizations who are yet to receive their overdue payment from overseas which includes those of Lottery/Gambling, Contract and Inheritance.

I sent this on to our Spam people at Suddenlink. There must be a million of these scams out there, please be aware of them, thanks for the warning Monica ;o)

This is an example of a good reason why those mass emails being sent to someone's whole address book should never appear for all to see, but instead should be put in the Blind Carbon Copy (BCC) address line. All those addresses out there, being included in forward, after forward are just asking for trouble by being picked up by some bad source. That reminds me, I need to contact a few members and tell them to please not ever include me in their mass mailings unless they use the Blind Carbon Copy line and also to please delete all of the previous addresses in the forwards. here's a copy of the email i received from her . You did not receive it from her, but instead received it was from a spammer that has chosen the "from address" to look like her address. Interesting - I cannot see any date, either on the cautionary message, or on the copy shown of the nefarious email. Which is rather unusual. I also note what appears to me an error in the composition, near the end of the message, something like, we suggest that you print a copy of this message ... the attachment, or such like, but then it continues, " ... and bring it alone to the airport" ... and it should be " ... bring it along to the airport". ole joyful ... getting closer to becoming a suspicious old man

Some companies do offer a "spiff" to realtors. In our state, it's on our contracts that if a home warranty is purchased, the realtor may get a "spiff" from it. It's around $50, depending on the company. But even if a homeowner chooses to offer a home warranty on the sale of their house that didn't pay any bonuses, I still recommend them. I had a seller decide he didn't want to buy one, and a week before his house closed, his HVAC system died. If he'd purchased a home warranty, not only would his buyer be covered, but he would have been covered until the sale of the house went through. As it was, he had to spend $1400 on a new unit. Had another seller who elected to include a home warranty for a prospective buyer. The warranty covered his property while it was on the market. In the middle of summer, one of his a/c compressors failed. $55 (plus the $400) fixed it, rather than him paying in the thousands. It's just one of those things that goes a long way in protecting the property while it's being marketed, and also a "warm fuzzy" for buyers. No, they don't cover everything, but they sure can help!

The sad thing is you can warn some people until you're blue in the face but their greed and curiosity will often override warnings and common sense, when so equipped.

I maintain that people should have to take an intelligence test to be allowed to use email.

Why do people even open these things instead of just deleting? I guess it's like the ringing phone must be answered. All you do is encourage more of the stuff to be sent.

Unfortunately, people refuse to change and the spammers bank (big bucks) on it.

I've had stuff purportedly from the F.B.I., United Nations (including Ban, Ki Moon, the Secretary General's office), etc.

If I'd added up all of the amounts offered, I imagine that it'd have made a billion by now.

I even got one today where the sender offered me 50% (of 15 million or so, I think it was) - it's usually 30 - 40%.

Heck ... my share might be closing in on a billion, by now, as I've received hundreds of them.
