E-bay Problem? Am I Over Reacting?

I've buying off of E-bay quite often for years and have never had any problems.

So I won an auction (item #1), payment cleared on 3/9/10.

Buyer says they ship w/in 2 days of cleared payment.

I also paid for another E-bay auction that I won (item #2) that also cleared 3/9/10. I received that item a few days ago.

Still waiting on anything regarding item #1. It appears to have not even been shipped yet - there is no tracking #.

I e-mailed the seller this morning to find out the status but haven't heard anything (at this point I'm just plain impatient and realize I may be jumping the gun).

The seller has an excellent rating and nearly all comments mention the super fast shipping.

Seller has no negative ratings.

So am I jumping the gun? I'm seriously ticked.

Honestly, yes I think you are jumping the gun. I mean, this is only 3/13 -- your payment cleared for item #1 on 3/9 - only four days ago, and according to the seller's policy, it wouldn't have shipped to you until 3/11, right? Am I missing something here, because getting upset that you haven't received an item in two to four days just doesn't make sense to me - ??

I ebay often also. What I have found is sometimes sellers, will ship once or twice weekly. I have found some sellers are slower than others. There may be many factors playing into why they have not shipped yet. Maybe they live in NJ and are experiencing this horrific weather we have here today. I would give it at least a week of not hearing anything before I started to get worried.
Try and be patient, not everyone works at lightning speed like you ttodd.

Look, cottage industries do not fall under zoning codes. People are allowed to "work from home". Do you think that website designers and software deveopers need to work in a commercial area? What about phone answerers? Seamstresses? Tax preparers? An architecht who does drawings at home? What about all the prople who sell on eBay for a living? I have a friend whose job it is to shop for potatoe chips and cookies and then take them home and count the contents and weigh them and count broken pieces and type up a report and send it in to the company as a quality control report. Is she going to get kicked out of her home for doing this?!?!?! Geeesh. Of course not. Another friend writes for magazines from home. If everybody had to get an office or studio to do these things, cities would be ghost towns. Zoning is to regulate traffic and congestion into an area. You can't run a buniness out of your home that brings in either pedestrian traffic or vehicular traffic. Or causes a nuisance with noise or odors or anything else that residents may complain about. I have a neighbor who is running an illegal day care center out of her home. Cars are coming and going all day long with pick-ups and deliveries of children and babies. There are screamming children running around in the yard all the time and a row of strollers with babies lined up outside on days when the weather is nice. Now that is a business that is breaking zoning laws. My parents next-door neighbor is running some sort of business that involves a gigantic semi driving into the alley and unloading crates of who-knows-what a few times a week. That is breaking the zoning laws. Some neighbors finally complained and reported it, as the loooong semi would block access to everyone's garage and the driver would just tell people to "hold on" and wait while they unloaded the truck sometimes making people late for work or just making people idle their cars waiting or having to back up out of the alley to let the truck out. That is breaking zoning codes. What is the diiference between a hobby and a business? Huh? If someone paints watercolors as a hobby it is OK, but if they take them to a gallery and sell them then no? If you sew your DD a dress it is OK, but if you sew five of them and sell them on eBay, then all heck will break loose with the LL and the zoning codes? If a guy records himself and get paid for it......? Going after this guy by trying to use zoning laws won't go anywhere. This is a tenent/landlord issue. The guy is just a jerk expecting everyone to tiptoe around him. I like Talley's sample letter to sent to management. It could just be CC&P and printed out and mailed to them.

Once again, thanks so much to all of you who have taken the time to write . . . I so appreciate it !!! Seeking, thanks for your sympathy and idea of searching the make with +problems . . . I did plug that in, and amazingly enough, came up with OTHER problems we've already had with this dang truck !!! On some other sights, I also did find some similar things . . . And, on another entirely different note . . . . I hope your little puppy continues to recover nicely . . .poor little thing .. I was so sorry to hear that . . just an awful thing to have to go through . . . my good thoughts to puppy and you !!! dktrahan, thanks for the Dodge websites . . . I got quite a lot of useful stuff from them . . . I was on the computer last evening . . . late . . so much so, that my poor eyes are tired tired tired today . . . but I am so determined to get to the root of all of this . . . Sue, not to worry . . . but the husband factor in all of this is really trying . . . too much to go into, but basically it's not helping this situation . . .at all !! He's blaming me and DS for even buying a Dodge product to begin with . . . So, wanted to make it clear that my son is being a total champ through all of this . . . Nina, I think that will be the next step . . . to take it back to the original dealer and tell them to just keep it until they get it figured out . . . and IF they can't figure it out, then somehow, I'm going to try to make them responsible for selling us this truck to begin with !! We don't want another Dodge product, but I'm wondering if we would have more leverage with the selling dealership if we did go with a new Dodge, then get rid of it at another time . . . Oh heck . .. I have such neck strain, headaches and eyes aches through all of this . . . . . Oh, and re: the computer reprogramming . . . I talked with our friend yesterday who originally diagnosed the problem as needing to reprogram the computer . . . He COULD NOT believe that Dodge wouldn't do that . . . could not believe that Dodge said they wouldn't take responsibliy for anything that might go wrong because of the re-programming . . . I asked if he would mind if I had the Dodge guy call him and they could hash it over . . (they are acquaintances, having worked together years ago) He he didn't mind at all . . . called the Dodge guy, he told me WHY he didn't want to re-program it, saying he had to answer to Dodge as to why it was re-programmed when they couldn't get the problem to duplicate . . . said that even if they did re-program it, that that might not be the problem, which I can understand. I told him plain and simple though, that the truck, to us, is not safe to drive. Oh, and another thing . . .in an e-mail from our service adviser yesterday, he said that assuming there is a problem, that it WILL get worse, to the point of engine failure, and THEN we can bring it back and they'll know what to do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, so digressing a bit . . . back to the main service guy . . . he suggested that they could just keep it and he'd have his techs drive it home at night to try to duplicate the situation . . also saying that his techs were more experienced drivers than my son, and if anything should go wrong on the freeway, that they'd know more how to handle it . . . Now, all of this just does not leave me with warm fuzzy feelings !!!!!!!!!!!! Bill, thanks for the clogged catalytic converter tip. I e-mailed that suggestion, along with a list of other things that I gleaned from some of the Dodge forums. The catalytic problem sounds so much like what's going on with the truck . . . I'm so wondering just exactly what they've done to check into all of this . . . whether it's just driving the truck to try to duplicate the situation, or really getting into it. My friend that has his own shop told me that dealers really don't like working on warranty work . . . at all !! and sometimes do just what they have to to get it out the door. He did highly recommend this dealership, but for the life of me, and maybe I'm just naive . .. but I can't figure out why THEY can't figure out what's going on !!!!! Thanks for the comments. You may be right that I am overreacting, things definitely started on a sour note, so maybe I am more sensitive than normal. Our project was not a cost plus 10% basis - it was fixed price for the job. I've never heard of cost plus 10% for anything other than designers, but perhaps it varies in other areas of the country? When the GC bid on the project he went to great lengths to tell me how much attention he pays to details and how other poeple are sloppy, but he takes great pride in making sure everything is done to the highest quality. Well that may be true, but I wouldn't know as we have been dealing with his sloppy subs throughout the project, not him. Then there was the fact that his partner offered us $4000 for our old kitchen and then decided he didn't want it after all as soon as it was demoed and all the pieces were sitting in our living room. As we are in a city row home we had no where to store anything and the impression we got was that he hoped we would just say take it for free to get rid of it. It defintiely put a bad taste in my mouth. He ended up taking it away and storing it in the house he had been going to put it into and we were able to sell it as a package on craigslist for the same price - could have got way more if it had been here and people could have come and viewed it. I will also say that having done many projects with different GCs I have never had one who was present less than this one, and given the number of problems we had with the project I do not think this is ok. It's one thing to trust your subs, and another thing to leave it to the home owner to have to spot and address every mistake made by the subs with no presence from the GC at all. It was very stressful for me as I am always the one who was home and always had to point out when things were wrong.... which I think is the GCs job and why we hired him. Also for the record I have requested a list of 'additional charges' several times, and haven't received anything - this may also have contributed to my frustration over hearing that the remaining couple of small things which we discussed from the beginning were now going to be an 'extra'. It makes me worried about what to expect when the bill finally comes. At this point I just want to pay for what we need to pay for and be done. It's a shame, we gave our last GC so many referrals, but I just don't know that I am comfortable referring this crew. I know some of his clients hire him on the basis that he does all the work personally. I guess we should have just done that. Live and learn.

Thanks for the link TOS, it gives some interesting background. But I want to know the mechanisms involved... It seems strange to me that asthma is an inflammation response in the respiratory system, and Motrin (which is an ibuprofen) is an anti-inflammatory agent, but it could trigger asthma So I went PubMed-ing... It was tough to find what I was looking for, and the first thing I learned might be of interest to many of us: anti-inflammatories (like Motrin) can increase the risk of Staph infections from chicken-pox and are not recommended for pain relief during chicken-pox... Anyhow on to asthma and Motrin... I found a study where 2% of children with mild to moderate asthma had increased bronchospasms from exposure to ibuprofen but they didn't talk about why... But then I found another that found that ibuprofen was actually less of an asthma irritant than acetominophen and may actually have uses as an asthma suppressant... Again, no mention of molecular mechanism. And so it carried, back and forth on until I found what I was looking for... Anti-inflammatories can cause a decrease in antioxidant levels, particularly in the respiratory and digestive systems. Certain asthmas can be exacerbated by decreases in respiratory antioxidant levels. So what happens is: The Motrin sends a signal to the cells in the lungs to produce fewer antioxidants. In a healthy person, this doesn't matter very much. In an asthmatic, this can trigger an asthma attack and cause inflammation and bronchospasms. So, it can worsen asthma in asthmatics or cause mild asthma symptoms in people who are not otherwise asthmatic. Neato.

Since the seller has good feedback, I would wait a bit. I jumped the gun once on something very similar and even let me feedback reflect it. I didn't give him negative feedback, but pretty neutral. The guy emailed me, nice as he could be, and explained he had had a death in the family. I felt SO bad. I was able to contact ebay and have my feedback deleted.

Hopefully you'll here from the seller soon.

Yeah, I'd wait it out a little bit. I completely understand though because I'm impatient and have been in your shoes with the ebay thing. The item (so far) always comes but not as fast as I'd like. :)

I quick email to get status is fair, IMO. It's a nice way to let them know you're anxious and want your stuff so maybe they'll make sure to ship as soon as they possibly can.

If I didn't get an answer to my email inquiring about the purchase/expected ship date, by Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning, I'd probably send another email. I understand impatient! lol! :)

I would keep on top of it. I gave a seller with good ratings the benefit of the doubt and it turned into a big hassle. Over a stupid webkinz. It ended up that she screwed up shipping for her last three customers and she closed her Ebay accooount.

Tina - that's what I was thinking that there might have been some emergency or something.

Jen - it's not the fact that I haven't received it yet - it's the fact that it hasn't even been sent out yet well past the advertised time that they stated they ship.

And it's been more then 24hrs w/o any response to my e-mail inquiring about a projected ship date.

I'll keep waiting and if I don't hear anything back by mid-week I'll take it from there.

I know that I'm being impatient but having bought so many items over the years I'm just a bit surprised and also being on the selling end if I've ever run into a problem regarding when I said I'd ship I've always notified the buyer right away.

And I've looked so long for this particular item and rarely does it ever come up. My project revolving around this item is in a holding pattern until it arrives or at least until I know when it may be arriving.

The other feedback about this seller is that they have excellent communication. Still waiting.

You don't necessarily know that they haven't sent it yet -- Just that you haven't been notified yet that it has been sent. I often receive ebay purchases without being notified that they were shipped.

And of course, it's the weekend. I'd give it a few days and see what happens.

There's a tracking # associated w/ each item won (at least there always has been for anything that I've ever won) so that you can track the shipment of the item.

No tracking # has been assigned to this particular item as of yet.

Well, the next few days will tell the tale, but I just have a few observations.

1. The one time that I was anxiously awaiting an item that didn't come when the shipper had stated, I sent out a couple of nice emails just to ask if my item had been shipped. I said I was dying to see it, or something equally dorky so they wouldn't get irritated. Finally, after a week and I'm getting annoyed, I get a very nice email apologizing profusely because they had a car accident and had traveled out of state to go to the hospital where their relative had been taken. I felt like a chump.

2. I rarely assign a tracking number to anything I sell. I mostly just ship the next day and don't worry about tracking. I have the info on my shipping receipt if the buyer asks, but usually, they don't.

3. If the seller has excellent feedback, they will usually come through.

4. Your payment cleared on Tuesday. Let's say they didn't get it out until Thursday or even Friday. That would bring it to you no earlier than Monday............and it's not Monday yet. Yes, chill. And we will wait with you.

Well guess what arrived in the mail yesterday just as advertised in the auction?

Yep - my magazines.

No tracking # listed so I learned something new - Red I thought everything had a tracking # on E-bay so when I read your response I felt better.

I'm glad I have a calm patient DH to balance out this duo!

My bad.

Seller got a good rating and my projects can continue.

Blushing? You're blushing? Because you got a little impatient? I'll tell you blushing.......
Blushing is when you are selling two different sets of drapes on ebay just a week apart, and you get so many emails from one of the buyers that you just can't see straight. So, this buyer Gushes when she gets my homemade drapes. She carries on about how beautiful they are and how she can't wait to hang them. I read and delete the email. Three days or so later, I get another email from this person saying she doesn't know what happened to me but could I please send her a tracking number for her shipment. She apologizes for being impatient but really is excited about my drapes. I am at first confused and then, I get it. She's trying to scam me into reimbursing her for drapes she already received. She's going to pretend they're lost. So I mutter some mean things at my computer, fire off a snarkey little response telling her she got her drapes days ago and whatever does she mean? (Thank Heavens I never actually put anything MEAN in writing!!) She sends back a sweetly worded email telling me that she is sorry if something happened to them, but she really wants that tracking number so she can check with UPS. So, I fly off the handle completely (to my DH and DD) and check on the tracking. UPS shows package delivered 3 days before. But then, I notice the note. "Package left on bench by side door"
I wonder..........and I send her an email telling her this. She emails back one hour later all contrite and apologetic for bothering me. Turns out they never use that side entrance and her package had been there all the time. And the finishing touch to my story? I then check my feedback and find an almost word-for-word comment about the 'gorgeous drapes' or whatever........from the OTHER EBAYER who got drapes from me earlier. Their email addresses were slightly similar and the second ebayer (whose package was lost at her side door) was NOT trying to scam me as I had thought.

That, my fine feathered friend, is Blushing. And the best part, is.........neither of them ever knew.

Red - that is too funny. Glad there's someone else out there like me.

Same thing happened to me when I bought some chandelier shades from a guy on E-bay. Could not figure out where they were. Turned out that the mailman hid them very well behind my trashcans by the back door as our front porch is still under construction (that's because DH is doing it not me). They sat there for 2 weeks. The seller was good enough to send me an e-mail every few days to see if they's arrived - that was the only reason that I'd checked for the last time.

Honestly I was so embarassed about my impatience and actually posting something about it that I almost didn't open this thread again.
