I usually have an apron on...because I cook in whatever I'm wearing..which is usually jeans and tshirt..If it's an already stained grubby tshirt..I'll often forgo the apron...

The only apron I have is vertically striped, full frontal, and has 3 pockets - I wore it for a garage sale to make change hee!

Frequently unfortunate.... whatever I'm wearing. If it's good clothes I try to remember to wear an apron.

I toss on an apron if I'm cooking something red or 'spitty'.

BUT during winter, when its cold in the house and I'm too cold for just a t-shirt, I toss on my ubiquitous fleece jacket. I HATE pulling up my sleeves to wash dishes - so I bought a discounted fleece jacket and cut the sleeves off just below the elbow. Walla, cooking jacket!

I put on an apron as soon as I go into the kitchen to prepare food or wash dishes. Even though I take off my "shopping or downtown" clothes the minute I'm back in the door and change into casual house clothes, I still hate getting food splashes all over my clean T-shirt of the day. Tomato sauce stains are so hard to remove!

I like bib aprons that come right up to my chin, with ties that are long enough to go behind and then come back around to tie in the front.

For some reason, since Christmas I seem to need longer ties !

That's the only way I can comfortably get stuck into a kitchen job.

I wear whatever I am wearing... tee/jeans or "good clothes" or whatever.

DH got me a Chefs Jacket for Christmas a few years ago, but I tend to be warm blooded, the kitchen gets warmer when the stove is on and THEN the jacket is long sleeves buttoned to the neck. Guaranteed sweatball after that experience, so I never wear it.

Most days, I change my clothes when I get home from work to something more casual but I still wear one of my gazillion aprons whenever I'm cooking, irregarless of what I'm wearing.

My DH says he can tell what kind of mood I'm in by what apron I select. The fruit one = cheerful; the chicken one = possible grumpiness. LOL

whatever i have on.....if what I am wearing is hard to launder, or must be dry cleaned, I will don an apron.
The hardest is when I am cooking and serving a lunch at church. I like to look fairly decent enough to go into the dining room to visit with the family, bus not something that gets mucky.
Today I have on a lepoard print knit shirt....figure it's confy and won't show spots....and not totally "t-shirt".
In the summer I have a printed, wild, yellow, orange, melon etc shirt that shows nothing. Remembering once I wore a black shirt and got spots of the clorox solution I use to clean stuff on it.....fixed that with a laundry marker!

If it's in the morning time, you might find me in an old bathrobe!

I get splattered while cooking! Whatever I normally have on is what I wear, unless it is a good shirt or blouse. Then I change.
Occasionally I wear a bib apron, but the thing I wear most when cooking is the liquid from a Tide Pen ;-p
Oh, and when a hot kitchen and a hotflash clash, I may shed a few layers if no one is home. Judy

I am usually in something casual and washable. I do have several full front very basic aprons if I need to protect my clothes. This might happen if I am waiting for guests and still cooking or scaring up something quick and I am dressed to leave the house.

I have also worn my aprons with the big pockets for ceramic class and for garage sales!

When just cooking dinner then my normal jeans and tee. But if I'm in the kitchen for the day, i.e. projects, then I put on a bib apron. I like the strings to go around my waist again so I can tuck in a towel. I tend to wipe my hands on my thighs while cooking. (Found that out by looking at my aprons! I always thought I reached for the towel.LOL) So I try to grab an apron more often now.

Once dressed for the party I always grab an apron or a nifty denim chef's coat I found until it's time to eat. I even have a fancy white embroidered apron someone gave me but it's often not ironed. ( I save ironing my napkins And tablecloths for baseball season.By the end of Xmas I usually have most of the ones I own starched and ready to iron in the spring.) I do own a few that don't need ironing!

When I'm home you can always find me in athletic wear, sweat pants and the lilke. As soon as I walk in the door from either work or play, the 'street' clothes come off and the comfies go on. If we're having company, it's jeans and a casual pullover top. And I always wear an apron to cook in, most of them being the bib type. My mom always wore one so I learned early on that they're really life-savers in the kitchen. I could never figure out why someone wouldn't wear one LOL. I have a drawer full of aprons and every one gets used.

Just this morning before sitting down to breakfast I remembered to prepare my No Knead Bread for its second rise. I dusted the stone with flour and completed the flip to find my black turtleneck top was covered with white. I told DH that just as people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, people who wear black shouldn't work with flour without an apron. Funny to find this post!

Truth is I wear black, or charcoal grey, nearly every day late fall through early spring. I have coats with punchy colors like red, cobalt and paprika and collect pretty wool scarves, so I like wearing black as a backdrop. Also, it's pretty easy to get dressed in the morning - a uniform of sorts.

So, yes, I wear an apron almost all the time. Though I like the look, I have no use for the waisted bistro-style ones, as all my mess and splashing happens from the waist up.

I am petite (well, short, 5'2")so my favorites are the ones canarybird/Sharon described where you can pull at the waist to adjust the loop around the neck. Those are hard to find, so I tend to wear my favorites over & over.

People have gifted me with the ones with the D-ring at the neck, but by the time I pull it so that the bib isn't below my bustline and the waist isn't around my hips, I feel strangled. Too bad - have lots of cute ones, but they stay packed in the closet.

From time to time WS has a sale on those I like, and they're usually striped, which I like. If anyone knows of any other sources for that type, I'd love to know.

I always wear a full frontal apron to cook. I don't have that many clothes, and can't afford to have them stained. I love aprons. My favorite is one that Katiec from Idaho gave me with moose on it. Very northwoods looking. It is big enough and is good full coverage.

This time of year you'll find me wearing plaid flannel pants and a sweatshirt of fleece top. My favorite comfy clothes for home. When I know I'm going to be cooking and might end up wearing part of my cooking I have certain older tops I wear. I have plenty of aprons but usually can't be bothered. I change clothes just before someone comes over...

I always get out of my work clothes as soon as I get home. So I'm usually wearing stretch or sweatpants and a top according to the weather. If I'm really getting into a big project I'll wear my "full frontal" apron. Like Sharon, I like it when the ties can be tied in the front. When I want to feel girly I wear the apron Terri made for me.

The one "must do" when I'm cooking is wear some shoes with a thick sole. If not, my legs are aching from standing on my much-hated porcelain tile kitchen floor. I curse the kitchen designer who talked me into that.

I'm always in jeans or casual pants, with a t-shirt in summer, and jerseys with flannel shirts in winter. But years ago I realized there was no point in having all my shirts, however old, have grease spots. I always wear an apron, a dark blue one that doesn't show food stains, LOL! But I don't like the IKEA one I have now, because the big plastic adjustable thing at the neck clicks on long earrings.

I never had an apron until two years ago, and ruined a few shirts. I try to remember it now!
Dedtired, I'm with you on the shoes. I don't have tile (old vinyl) but I read somewhere that as you age, you lose some of the fat padding on the bottoms of your feet (glad to know that I'm losing it somewhere as it is getting thicker around my waist!). I never used to wear shoes in the house and now I've got to have something on or after an hour of standing, my feet are aching.

I wear one of my Pretty Uglies. I make aprons with attitudes. I can't not wear one in the kitchen!

I forgot to mention something.....CROC'S! I wear them all the time when cooking.

I wasn't convinced, then Sheshebop gifted me with a pair, red to wear at PFPP (our getaway to Gatlinburg). Now you can't get me out of them, around the house they are a miracle. I now have four pair the newest being some designed for winter with extra tread and pile lining.

I have a long easy to wash house sweater that I throw on if I'm wearing nice clothes. In the summer I have an giant button down shirt that covers nice. I like long sleeve blouses so covering up the sleeves when cooking is important to me.

I love my tile floors. I have both indoor shoes and outdoor. After Dolly ate the soles out of my slippers I put orthopedic soles in and now have super comfortable warm house wear. At the factory I stand for most of the day on cement. We have ergonomic mats of various types. Everyone is different and different shoes change what surfaces are comfortable. I prefer hard cement but then I wear expensive Red Wing shoes with two pair of thin socks. For some reason two pair of thin socks works better then one pair of thick for me... less friction I think.

Certainly I can't let this thread go by without mentioning my light pink satin blouse, dark ocean green straight skirt, with black patent shoes and belt. Don't know how I come up with pink and green but it works.

If I remember, I wear the apron Pam gave me in the last swap. Burgundy is a brilliant color for hiding tomato stains! :) I'm sure that's why she chose it. Otherwise, i just wear my regular clothes. They're nothing really special anyway, so I rarely do them much harm.

I wear grubby clothes around the house (not to be seen in public!) and it's usually shorts and a tee shirt. They're all old and I don't wear aprons. I might change several times a day if I grimy from gardening, cooking, playing with the dogs, cleaning or being a slob while eating.
I like to wear nice clothes in public and I try to take care of them.

Most of the time I wear the same ancient Levis, black T shirts and work boots that I wear for doing everything else. If it's cold I put on a black sweat shirt. If I think of it when I am baking I substitute a white T shirt or a grey sweat shirt. I do have a nice chef's coat, but I only wear it for my part time catering gig or for when I'm cooking outdoors and the neighbors have company over :-)

Depends on what I'm cooking, what I'm wearing at the time and what the weather is, LOL.

If I'm doing a day's worth of baking at home on a weekend, I'll pull on one of Elery's t-shirts, they come about to my knees, LOL, and I wear that over my clothes. If I'm having anyone over, or even if Elery is here, I'll wear an apron over my clothes. If it's hot, though, and I'm cooking, all bets are off. I'll wear just the big baggy t-shirt, nothing else.

I do NOT cook bacon naked, though. Trust me.

There are six apron hanging in the pantry, and most a re still cean. Now my old sweatshirts after cooking could be simmered and the water used for soup. You would think I would grab one of the six.

Sands, full apron is my preferance...I have some halfies..but I tend to make a mess above the waist..LOL

My full apron is a swap gift from here...hot chili peppers all over it!

I can never remember to put on an apron unless I am taking out the flour. I did find a really nice Martha Stewart apron at Macys this year. It is very soft and the neck strap goes completely through it so it is self adjusting with no ring and extra strap near the neck. Perfectly designed, but I guess that is Martha's trade mark. That neck strap always annoyed me with my Willam Sonoma apron.

My Christmas vistor tried wearing it over the holidays. I had to tuck in the bib but it looks much cuter on her. Tea anyone?

I do what Bumblebeez does, but sometimes I wear an apron to protect the food from my clothes! Or I will grab one of DH's old Tee's to cook in. My apron is one that my son wore when he worked at a pizza place back in the '80s. It's so thin you can almost see through it. I can sew and have made aprons for other people, but I just can't seem to make one for myself.

I should have also said that on certain occasions I wear my grandmother's apron. She made it for herself and wore it. Now, it hangs in my kitchen, but I wear it occasionally and I feel like she's with me. She and my other grandmother are my inspiration for cooking and for my own aprons! I'm going to have to try the Crocs. They look hot to me and I don't need anymore hot! But they get rave reviews! I'm usually shoeless in the kitchen. Birks in the Spring, Summer, Fall and big woolly socks in the Winter!

Mostly what I call my 'jammies'. Old sweats and sweatshirt.
I put them on the minute I get up, change for work, back into them when I get home.
I've got many 'sets' of these.......if I get flour or spaghetti sauce or strawberry jam on them, oh well!
Summer time is old shorts and old T-shirt.

So, if you're in the neighborhood, call first so I can "get dressed", okay?

I do own a couple of aprons (full frontal), but usually wear them only on holidays, etc. when I HAVE to be dressed and still cook!

I automatically grab an apron when I am cooking, even breakfast, and washing dishes -- because if I don't, I WILL mess up my clothes. I wear a headband, too (just a regular Goody one, nothing chef-y), not because I am afraid of hair falling in the food, but because I can't stand my hair hanging in my eyes while I do things.

I do wear a chef's jacket it I am stir-frying or anything else that spatters hot oil -- that's why I have the thing. But I try not to let guests see me in it, because -- well, you know!

I always change my clothes before I cook. When I cook, my clothes become a artist's canvas of whatever I'm cooking! My usual garb in winter is a sweatshirt and sweat pants, in summer it's a t-shirt and shorts and in between some combo of the above. The area around my chest muscles tend to be the most artistic, though I can't say much for the brush strokes!

I usually cook in whatever I'm wearing. But if I'm facing a day of canning or baking Christmas cookies, where I know I'll be up to my elbows in the kitchen all day, I'll wear my long black apron so I don't have to be so careful, and can wipe my hands quickly if I need to.

I have a couple of nicer aprons that I save for when we are having a dinner party. If I'm dressed nicely but have some finishing touches to make on dinner, I'll wear one of those.
