Duck Confit Soup Advice

So I have duck confit in the freezer that I need to use up and wanted to use it in soup. Anyone have any ideas? I was of something Asian with miso or curry but don't know if this works with duck confit? I am open to anything besides beans only because the other night I made a lentil bean soup finished with balsamic reduction. Thanks guys for the suggestions in advance. I'll let you guys know what I decide to do.

I think any clear soup, especially an Asian style would work great with duck confit. I'm sorry that I don't have any special ideas or recipes for you, but I think duck confit would be perfect in a clear chicken soup - maybe egg drop or a wonton soup. Did you make the confit yourself?

What about a roasted tomato/garlic soup with some of the duck floated on top to finish? I use KatieC's recipe and its a great soup.

I would love your recipe for the lentil/bean soup with the balsamic reduction.

Thanks for the reply woodie2. Actually, I didn't make the duck confit myself this time and got it at CostCo. I used to make large batches of it and it is surprisingly simple to make yourself.
The lentil bean soup was as follows: 1/2 pound of bacon diced and sautÃ©ed (set aside half for garnish), 1 diced onion, a few red russet potatoes diced, 4 cloves of garlic minced, cumin, coriander, 1 can of fire roasted tomatoes, white wine, chicken stock, and lentil beans (follow directions on package I actually used Trader Joe's precooked lentil beans), salt and pepper to taste, and fresh thyme if you have some on hand. Finish with a drizzle of balsamic reduction. I have been buying the balsamic reduction premade at Harris Teeter and I have seen it at many other grocery stores but if you make it yourself just make sure to reduce the balsamic slowly.
The vinegar really makes this soup so good and just decided I needed to make something with the lentil beans and it was snowing at the beach so that meant soup! I added the balsamic on a whim and it made it so tasty. Hope you make it yourself so glad you asked for it because I always forget my own recipes.
I am thinking of a clear soup of lemon grass, scallions, and maybe a hint of miso like you suggested with maybe soba noodles and pulled duck on top. For some reason this unusual snow at the beach is making me crave making even more different soups tonight.

The dinner was served tonight, but it was half-hearted on all side - SWMBO and my son are still sick, dear daughter might be sinking, and I have the start of something. Current symptoms are a wincing headache, achy joints, and a draggy feeling. Crap, I have to go on a trip Tuesday. Back to the food - the duck breast turned out tasty, I couldn't get the gastrique-or-whatever-we're-calling-it to look pretty so I left it off for the pics (I didn't process it smooth enough for a squeeze bottle, lesson learned). The veg is pretty charred after re-heating but tasted fine. I'm taking a Tylenol PM and going to bed. Thank you all for helping me with this "meal". Oh, P.S. I've decided it could be fun for those of us who cook with music to mention what we were listening to when we made whatever we're talking about. Tonight: Lana Del Rey, Isaac Hayes. Thanks all! The confit - Looking at traditional recipes, they seem to call for curing the duck in salt for a day or so then rinsing off, or at least brushing off, the salt before cooking. The MC version has you cover the duck with salt (and other things) and sous vide with a bit of fat for 24 hours. After that they're finished by frying or broiling. I think the problem might be that cooking in all that salt let far too much work its way in. Since this is meant to be eaten right away as opposed to the traditional preservation method, I see no reason not to drastically reduce the amount of salt. Which has me thinking this is not confit at all, just terribly salty but otherwise excellent, um, duck legs. As for the wine, yeah, that was for show. Needed some wine for the sausage. It did better in there than in the glass!

Stuff came up over the weekend, so today was duck day. I had an afternoon, in person meeting, so I was rushing the bird and veg into the slow cook. I've never broken down a duck before! I've bought parts from the butcher, and roasted whole, but I've never before dismembered a whole raw duck. The wings came off pretty easily, but popping the leg joints didn't make them easy to cut through. Taking them off did, however, make it easier to remove the skin. The membrane clings. I should have used a boning knife, but I had a nice sharp scimitar in my hand and it worked. The only issue is that the easiest path was through the meat, and then I had to rescue the bits of meat. In the end, I was really glad I only left the skin/fat on the wings, it came out so well. I the bottom I used some flat leaf parsley that needed using, instead of my usual carrot tops. Also, carrots, spring onions, green garlic, chard, and celery. For braising liquid, I used a can of spicy V8 and half a cup of chicken cooking juice. 'T'ain't pretty but it tastes fantastic. I have to keep myself from picking at it. The veg are fantastic too. The juice has its duckness, but owes the most to the V8. ;) I'll probably add the duck juice and whatever veg doesn't go in the enchiladas to what comes similarly when I braise some chuck, to make soup.

I ended up making a white miso soup with pulled duck confit. I sautÃ©ed mushrooms (oyster, shiitake,cremini), sliced shallots, garlic, chicken stock, julienned carrots, shaved white asparagus, minced lemon grass, grated ginger, whole coriander, red pepper flakes, and white miso miso powder. Finished with spring onion, fresh julienned carrots, lime, cilantro, udon noodles coated with rice wine vinegar, and pulled duck confit. It was so simple and very flavorful but the duck was not necessary. I would so make this again as it is very refreshing and flavorful.
