T&T punch for a baby shower???

Next Saturday I am having a baby shower for a co-worker and would like to do a punch. I was wondering if anyone had a good recipe? Also, any ideas for shower food would be appreciated. There will be approximately 20 people, mid afternoon - any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jackie

The last shower I gave we served, red velvet cupcakes, small chicken salad sandwiches on small crossants, nuts, white wine and tea, frozen grapes. The easiest shower, is a brunch, and more seemed to come to the earlier time.

My mom always used to make a very simple punch (simple but tasty -though it is quite sweet). Two 2-liter bottles of 7-Up with a 1/2 gal of raspberry (or rainbow) sherbet. I made it for a get-together last week and it was as good as I remembered it.

I also made some hot mulled cider which was pretty popular.

Found this Jade, hope it helps. Dixie Cup Booties one dixie cup, or styrofoam cup - for each bootie you want to make decorative cutting scissors (optional) ribbon or lace hole puncher clear fingernail polish acrylic sparkle glaze or varnish Cut an inch or so off the top of the cup using decorative scissors or with a regular pair of scissors cut with a rolling motion. Starting at the top of the cup cut a slit down towards the bottom stopping about 1" from the bottom of the cup. Make another slit the same way about 1 1/2" from the first. The little section between the two slits is the tongue of the bootie. Push the tongue back towards the center and bring the flaps over the tongue. Punch holes down both sides going through both layers. Place some clear nail polish inside the holes and let dry. (This helps keep them from ripping apart when the ribbon is tied.) Paint your booties with sparkle glaze and let dry. Then run ribbon through the holes just as you would a shoe and tie. Now you can fill your shoes with mints, candy, or nuts. So cute!

Thanks for all the ideas. Compumom, unfortunately, I bought the mushroom turnovers last week, so I'll stick with them. However, I agree that a few more fresh items would be nice. I think I'll make some cherry tomato & fresh mozzarella skewers. Marinate the small mozzarella balls and use both red & golden tomatoes. Depending on how energetic I am, I might even add some marinated mushrooms too. I also will include a bowl of cubed fresh pineapple. I don't want to add any other fruits because I don't want to upstage the fruit tart my daughter-in-law is making. Thanks again for your help and suggestions. I'm sure we'll have a wonderful time. Here's the Pimento Cheese recipe: Posted by: woodie2 on Mon, Jan 24, 05 I don't really have many suggestions for tea sandwiches, but I do have this lovely recipe from Cindy Mac for Pimento Cheese, that Teresa made me remember. WORLD'S BEST PIMENTO CHEESE 4 tbls. mayonnaise 1 (3-oz.) pkg. cream cheese, at room temperature 3 cloves garlic Handful of fresh parsley Several vigorous shots of Tabasco and Pickapepper sauces 1 cup pecans 1 (4-oz.) jar diced pimentos with the juice 12 ozs. extra-sharp Cheddar cheese, grated Puree until smooth in food processor the mayonnaise, cream cheese, garlic, parsley and sauces. Turn into a bowl. Coarsely chop pecans. Add pecans and pimentos with juice to the mayonnaise mixture. Add grated cheese. Stir well to combine. Store in refrigerator at least 1 hour before serving. The spread is even better the next day. Serve on bread, crackers or on vegetables.

Last 3 baby showers I went to played: Let each person pull a length of toilet paper off a roll, the one that's piece fits around mom-to-be the closest wins.2nd game, fill a bowl with uncooked plain white rice. Mix in several packages of loose safety pins. Hold the bowl over each persons head, they reach up and grab a handfull of rice and pins. The person who grabs the most safety pins wins. You need a 2nd person to be standing there with a bowl or styrofoam plate that the player can dump their handfull of rice and pins in and it can be counted before dumping back in the rice & pin bowl. It is a lot of fun when you can get male guests to play too. 3rd. game have a list of items used for baby, scramble words and see who is first to unscramble correctly all words. You can see I have been to baby showers with the past 6 months. Oh, nice suggestion, ask everybody to give a book instead of a card with gift. I found a baby cloth book at one of the craft shows I did for last baby. Mom-to-be really liked it.

Punch recipe (T&T)?

Here is a recipe I have had since the 70's and it is very good. 1 large 36oz can unsweetened pineapple juice 1 12 oz can frozen orange juice concentrate 1 12 oz can frozen lemonade concentrate 1/2 cup sugar 6 cups water 2 quarts ginger ale or one bottle of champagne dissolve 1/2 cup sugar in 6 cups of water. Add orange juice and lemonade concentrate and amount of water called for on each can. usually 3 cans each add pineapple juice. Pour into containers and freeze. I use old 1/2 gallon milk cartons. This makes 1 and 1/2 gallons mix. When ready to serve, thaw until slushy add the ginger ale or champagne. This can be done in a punch bowl or in a pitcher. I usually use half mixture and half ginger ale when serving if making in a pitcher. Sometimes I make it up and just let it completely thaw in fridge and mix it half and half with ginger ale in a glass for one serving at a time. I have mixed it up and just used it, didn't freeze. Pretty versatile stuff.

My tried and true is 1 gallon hawaiian punch, 2 liter of ginger ale, 1/2 gallon sherbet. Everyone always raves and asks for the "recipe."
I also like white grape juice with ginger ale or 7-up. And lemonade + unsweet iced tea is popular as well.

I usually do equal parts 100% cranberry juice or white grape juice (depending on what color I want), ginger ale, and pineapple juice. Just eyeball and pour into the punch bowl.
Works for me anyway and I love the taste.
I make a frozen mold of the pure juice to keep everything cold too and it's pretty if you add fruit in the mold to make it pretty. Let it get half frozen then arrange some in it.

For food, I would do simple appetizers and desserts as it's after lunch. How sophisticated is your group? A huge platter of sushi is always welcomed here and so are good cheese platters.
Personally, I would skip a cake that says "Welome Baby" or whatever, but nearly every baby shower I go to, someone has one.
A variety of cupcakes with different toppings and some great fruit, little sandwiches, some cheese wafers, maybe some asparagus rolled in phyllo, would all be good.
A hot artichoke dip and crackers also.
I would not do hearty meats like meatballs but a chicken salad in phyllo cups or baked in a bread ring might be nice.

Your punch sounds good, bumblebeez! If you have Cheerwine soda where you are, it is very good mixed half 'n half with chilled pineapple juice.

If the weather is cold where you are, hot spiced cranberry tea would warm everyone. I'd keep the food simple: tea sandwiches of chicken salad, ham salad, cucumbers on cream cheese seasoned with a pack of dry ranch dressing, some good cheeses with crackers and grapes on a tray, cheese straws (the southern version of cheese biscuits/wafers), spiced pecans, and Emeril's Stuffed Cupcakes - really good!
