We're having a small gathering of about 10-12. We'll be serving the food in two stages, before and at halftime. starts.

The first round:
Shrimp cocktail

Crudite with dip (many of us are watching our weight, so we have to include this)

Pigs in blankets

Quesadillas (jack, mushroom,and bacon, carmelized onion, arugula, and fontina)

Nacho dip (refried beans mixed with salsa and cheddar, heated, then topped with sour cream and fresh guacamole.

Main:
-Chili
-Mac and Cheese casserole (Joan's on Third Macaroni and Cheese posted by KathleenCA) and attested to by Wooodie.
-Green salad

I may decide to replace the nacho dip with a chili dip, then just serve the mas and cheese as the main.

Mostly I'm thrilled Tamara is playing with us on the CF, LOL.

Our Canadian friends are not big football fans so it will be just the three of us: hubby + little man + myself. Won't bother to make anything special. Good old dark chocolate, cheese & nuts will be more than enough. Al

I never do anything for Super Bowl, ever since the year the Stones did the half time show and all I could think of was Mick Jagger and didn't anyone ever tell a 60 year old man that he shouldn't wear leather pants? It was just ugly, LOL.

If Tamara wants to play with us, though, I'll reconsider. Actually, when is the Super Bowl? Elery might be here in which case I'll have to do wings or something...

Many years ago, when I was working for the Census bureau, I had several contacts I needed to make and could never find anyone home. So I traveled an hour on Super Bowl Sunday,got my interviews, left my DH in front of the TV....and returned home before he even knew I was missing! Easy to get the interviews, everyone was home and no one wanted to talk or argue....just answer the questions and get that woman out of my house!!

Huge football fans here so we will definitely be watching even though our fav teams have been eliminated from the playoffs. Since I think it will be NO/IND playing I will probably root for the Saints and do a NO theme for the food. It gives me a good reason to start the day with beignets since a good friend sent me a box of Cafe du Monde Beignet Mix. For actual game time, it will be Jambalaya all the way and pitchers of Hurricanes. I will probably do a seafood cocktail with remoulade and some chips, nuts and pretzels.

Of course, that is subject to change! LOL!

Sue, be sure to not skimp on the cheeses for Joan's Macaroni & Cheese. I made it again a few weeks ago & it wasn't as good - rather dry. I finally figured out I hadn't used quite enough cheese - more is better. Then it's just grand!

Kathleen...I will make it just as written! Let me ask you, when you buy the Gouda, do you buy aged or non-aged Gouda? I get some pretty nice aged goudas but it might not work in a dish like this.

I am no way a football fan. However, our son in law enjoys coming over and watching the game with my husband. I don't even know when the Super Bowl is, that is how into it I am. Anyway there is some game on this Sunday. I am fixing beef and pork barbecue sandwiches, baked beans, fried potatoes and cole slaw plus a rich chocolate cake. They can eat and snack until it is over. Go Colts!

The traditional football meal in our house is Frito Salad/Hay Stacks. We have it every week including the super bowl while watching the game. It is eaten with Colts Blue flatware on Colts Blue plates!

We're going to a party. We've been going to this same party for the past maybe three years. It's fun because there are tons of people there. The folks (like my DH) who really want to watch the game all gather in the room with the big screen TV. The rest of us mill about the other two large rooms, each with smaller TVs.

There is tons of food but it goes fast! People come hungry! I need to come up with something to bring. Something filling that I can make a large quantity of. Last year I brought a very large amount of a substantial dip (gellchom's corn pecan dip) and it was gone in like 15 minutes!!

Sue, you know, I've never paid attention to what the Gouda is; I just look for the red wax covering! I presume that means non-aged.

momj47 LOL! Actually several years ago we went to Disney for Super Bowl week - the parks were EMPTY I was absolutely amazed. It was the year the Pats beat the Panthers and Brady was at Epcot a couple of days later so I got him to sign my shirt while we were there. It ended up being the best trip we ever took to Disney!

My family does not watch the Super Bowl. We do not like football much in this household. Only person who watches it will be son Todd.Hubby doesn't like to watch since he didn't get to play football in high school after a career ending knee injury in 9th grade.

We are going to a SB party up at the lake. Everyone brings something to eat and their own "pops". Fun time but I don;t recall ever seeing the game. Just the half time show. We don't get the SB commercials in Canada. Canadian content don't you know ! Boring..........

I'm taking Weeds Mufuletta after I was reminded of it on the Muffuletta Thread. I'll make it in a regular Italian loaf though so I can slice it in straight slices.

Some cities have problems with their sewer system that the entire population in the area flashes their toilets simultaneously during half-time.

We have been going to our friend's house for quite a few years. Normally DH and I would hang with the girls and eat/talk while the guys would watch TV. This time I'm watching - I better learn how the game works, LOL.

I'm bringing cookies (will show you later, KAREN SEND ME THAT RECIPE) and I'll offer to bring vegetarian muffaletas. My hostess is making gumbo or jambalaya (vegetarian) in honor of the Saints.

I agree that it's the best time to go shopping. The stores are almost empty except for other non-football people like me. I had never thought of going to Disney or any other theme park. That is a wonderful idea.

How did I miss gellchom's unusual dip recipe?! I had to go and search for it, and I hope you don't mind me reposting it, gellchom. I'm definitely making it for my party!

Corn & Pecan Dip

2 8-oz. packages cream cheese, softened
¼ cup lime juice
1 T ground cumin
1 T ground red chiles (I used 2 t cayenne and it was plenty hot)
½ t salt
dash black pepper
¼ c vegetable oil
1 16-oz. can whole-kernel corn, drained
1 c chopped pecans
1 small onion, diced (I like more)

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except corn, pecans, and onion. Beat until smooth with electric mixer on medium speed.

Stir in corn, pecans, and onion.

Serve with tortilla chips.

Well my menu changed...due to the kids requesting so many different things....So basically my theme is PUB FAIR. Buffalo Wings, Potato Skins, Mini Spare Ribs, Hamburger Sliders, Onion Rings, Jalepeno Poppers, Nacho Platter...Just like a Pub Oh yeh and different variety of Beer/Lagers and of course chips and onion dip!

Well, seeing that I'm from Louisiana we are having Muffalettas, chips, dips, wings, black and gold saints cookies in an interesting shape (if photo worthy will post story and recipe with pics). Cheese platter with crackers and butter. Lots of beer, cocktails and wine :-)

It's gotta be finger foods for the super Bowl. Lot's of jumping, screaming, running around fools we are.

We will not be going to or having a Super Bowl party, but will definitely be watching since our Colts are playing and we watch all their games. Will probably fix some burgers and a lot of snack food. Whatever is easy for me so I can be free to sit back and watch everything. By the way, if our team had lost in the playoffs, I would be rooting for the Saints.

This sounds great, Sue! Just the sort of meal DH (and I) would really like. We really like to make BBQ pulled pork in the slow cooker. Yum!

He and our guys will also want hot wings, jalapeno poppers, chili-cheese dip with Tostitos Scoops, potato skins, etc, throughout the game.

We'll be together with family next Sunday -- some pulling for the Saints, some pulling for the Colts. It ought to be verrry interrrresting, LOL.

As for myself, I have mixed feelings -- I was a huge fan of Archie Manning eons ago when he was such a great QB for the then-perennially losing Saints (aka the "Aints" back then).

I usually pull for his sons, both Peyton and Eli. I'd be in a real fix if the Colts and Giants met in the Super Bowl, LOL. Now Peyton, who grew up in Cajun country (as did several other Colts players), is going up against Archie's old team! It's almost surreal.

Muffalettas and some of those mysterious cookies that Jessy and Karen are making! For Breakfast we will be having pancakes similar to those cookies (hopefully I will have pictures of those too!). And, we are planning to make one of those Ultimate Superbowl Who Dat pizzas. I'm ordering my Muffalettas from the Central Grocery tomorrow -- I'm having the authentic thing shipped here for this occasion!

Did I read "hot dip of some kind"? Here's a really good one that I made over New year's weekend - sounds pretty ordinary but its better than GRRRREAT! Of course it has no theme value for the Saints or the Colts, I suppose.

PIZZA DIP
(Family Circle Magazine 2009)
Makes about 6 cups
Prep 10 minutes
Bake at 350 for 30 minutes

8 ounces cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup light mayonnaise
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
8 ounces sliced pepperoni, chopped
2 ripe plum tomatoes, chopped
10 large, pitted black olives, chopped
4 crusty Italian rolls, cut into 1/2 inch pieces

1. Heat oven to 350.

2. In a large bowl, mix together all the ingredients except the bread and spoon into a 6 cup baking dish.

3. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes, until lightly browned and bubbly.

4. Allow to cool slightly and serve with bread pieces for dipping/spreading.

Note I used less pepperoni and more olives

Not only did our team not make it, they failed miserably, and on top of that, I will be attending an outdoor wedding, in January, in northern Maine. I think we are roasting hot dogs on a bon fire. That will be the main course. Then we will drive 5 hours home, so we can both work the next day. I shall live vicariously through all of you, and pretend our team did wayyy better than they did this year. Have Fun everyone!
